Former NFL LB makes Bold Statement on Panthers Defense
kungfoodude replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Let's not get too carried away with that line of thought. If they are a top 11-15 defense, that isn't a failure. These guys are still really young and we still have big question marks in most of the position groups. It isn't fair to saddle them with that kind of expectation, IMO. I think we should be hopeful they can achieve that but not upset if they don't. -
I am guessing that means they didn't like any of the OT options in the draft, outside maybe Sewell. I do wonder why we chose him as opposed to getting a much more highly regarded OG in the 2nd. Perhaps they didn't have high grades on many OG's either.

So now we get to the core of it. This dude has absolutely zero clue about our team and is just a Darnold homer. That figures.
-
Unsurprisingly, you still cannot make any logical argument to support any position you hold.
-
You don't think his performance to date is the truth? How very Q-Anon of you.
-
Like I said, you are missing the point of the message board. The delivery style is relatively irrelevant, these are points of discussion. Doesn't matter how repetitive, how dumb, how much you disagree, etc. I FOR SURE know PJ Walker isn't getting a shot at this starting job outside of injury. But if this guy wants to lay out his case, so be it.

This could literally be posted to every thread on this board. Ever. I think you are starting to miss the point of a message board.

The difference is that in almost every case these "second chance" QB's are given not just a second but third and fourth chances as they bounce around the league as backups. Yet, none of them ever ascend to being an elite starter even when they are in good scenarios. And that is ultimately the point I am making. While the situation plays a significant role, the player is the biggest portion of that. Some of these guys would be successful no matter where they are, it would only matter how successful they were. The QB you are describing is a game managing QB. Like Trent Dilfer or Joe Flacco. You need a phenomenal team that basically can win if you just don't fug it up. Deshaun Watson came into arguably the worst coaching scenario possible in the NFL and has played phenomenally, despite having a dipshit coach and a supporting cast that has gotten worse every year. He has never struggled the way Darnold has. This is the core of the disagreement. Nature versus nurture. I think nature is the prevailing factor because the bulk of the nurturing has already happened. You believe otherwise. We'll see soon enough.

This is kind of why most of the skeptics or people with doubts don't listen to the majority of the homers. You guys literally cannot make logical arguments to support your position. You make emotional arguments. You want a great example of how to make a supportive post? Look at @SBBlue's great post from today. This is actually a good, supportive argument based on statistics and facts not some whiny, bitching about how you don't like the way people think because it isn't what you want to hear.

Sure but that has always existed. It's a two way street. If you use a reporter, they are less likely to trust you in the future and vice versa. The biggest issue, IMO, is the push to be first. That is where you get the biggest BS being spread with little filter. Case in point, someone like Rappaport that immediately is tweeting single source unverified info once it hits his ears. That's why while he gets some great info, he also puts a lot of BS out there. This isn't the case with what they are saying. They are literally reporting something that happened almost a month ago. Is there a chance his sources are wrong? Certainly. Perhaps this was not firsthand info and it was second hand info, for instance. The error that many fans commonly make is just simply dismissing information because they just don't like what they are hearing.

That is what makes Mahomes so otherworldly. He gets away with throws that the average gunslinger just can't. I would call it happenstance but at this point we are four years into his NFL career and his TD to INT ratio is absolutely insane. He's just at another level. Honestly, I think we are seeing a newer era of gunslingers that are actually capable of controlling those INT's a lot more than some of the traditional gunslingers like Darnold or Winston. Much more of a measured aggressiveness.
-
I hope that ends up being true. But, it's hard to have feelings in the NFL. That business is cutthroat as hell.
-
You keep your sources by not blabbing their names all over the media.
-
Agreed. 100% of Darnold’s issues are between his ears. If he can get his head right, he can be a success.
-
Great wasn't the discussion. I would say he was successful.

Sam Darnold talks about The Adjust To Charlotte And The Panthers
kungfoodude replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think he is also remembered for the player he was. Much like Michael Vick, he was a weapon of a kind that hadn't been seen up to that point. He elevated the franchise when we were floundering. -
I disagree a little bit. I think although that price was not high, the cost would hurt a bit if he is a bust here. I wish I had your faith in the move. I definitely hope you are right.
-
I agree with most of this. I think some of the luster came off Brady last year and he looked a lot like a rookie OC. We fans also need to understand that the coaches also have a learning curve in the NFL too.
-
Yep. It won't matter how good Fields is or isn't if Darnold pans out. Once we get our guy, that is all that matters.
-
No, if you look back in our history we have had some successful OT's we have drafted. Especially in the first ten years of our existence. We just forget them now because of how long ago that was.
-
Which, to defend Rhule somewhat we do know they pursued Stafford first, so I think the dumpster diving this offseason had more to do with their first couple of options failing(Stafford and likely Watson). I think this was a much more understandable dumpster dive than Teddy was. The biggest question will be passing on Fields and if Darnold is bad enough, why trade draft capital when you could have gotten a cheaper bust QB on the market. Hopefully this discussion is just theory and Darnold proves us wrong.
-
Lol. Favre?

I don't think you need a case study, it's about playing the odds. Those long shot stories are awesome and we had one with Jake Delhomme. But, they also aren't common or frequent so you can't rely on them being successful at a high rate. Our offseason is sort of weighted towards longshot/long odds moves, so maybe if a lot of those pan out we do have a genius front office and/or coaching staff. I would be floored to find that out, that is for sure. That's how you get the benefit of the doubt from skeptics like myself.
-
I don't think Tepper will fire him after this season, even if we didn't win a single game. I do think his seat could start getting warm if the Darnold situation results in Sam Darnold still being Sam Darnold(a bust). I tend to agree that he might only have one more QB chance after Darnold. That's what I am afraid of.
-
No need to bump them. Those guys know who they are. 100% agree on Cam or Winston over Teddy. I think either option would have been more successful.
