Are the 2021 Carolina Panthers worse than the 2020 Carolina Panthers?
kungfoodude replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hard maybe. Not sure it says much other than the decision to take a bust QB and put him behind a bottom 5 OL unit was extremely stupid. But, anyone with any sense could have predicted that wouldn't work out. It was actually pretty mind numbing how many didn't see that portion of our struggles coming. -
I was initially a Rhule skeptic but let's keep in mind that he is just 22 games into his NFL career. I share the same skepticism that I initially did but I am not ready to jump off a cliff yet. Perhaps if we finish the season at 3-14. That's something we all had to know was going to be a thing. The coaching staff has a learning curve to navigate, as well. All while during a complete rebuild.

No more retreads or reclamation projects at QB
kungfoodude replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't see any QB I would waste a 1st round pick on this offseason. We have bigger needs on the OL to fix, IMO. Not to mention we don't have many draft picks in 2022. Hopefully we can sign a QB or trade for a QB in the next couple of seasons. I was firmly on the "get the QB first" bandwagon but as bad as this OL is, fix that first before trying to draft a higher round QB prospect. If someone like Watson is available, that is a no brainer. If Derek Carr becomes available, that is a good option. Other than that, sign another failed QB for a cheap contract, build a better OL and hope you can make one of the turds float in 2022. We don't need to have "the QB" immediately. This is still a rebuild. -
I am actually not freaking out over this loss at all. I am moderately annoyed. I didn't expect Darnold to work out, I didn't think the OL would work out and I thought we were a 6-9 win team. This is about what I expected in the preseason. Like many, I thought perhaps we had something better after the first three games but I never thought we were going to see the playoffs or any of the other crazy poo people were talking about. It is what it is. We don't have a ton of roster holes, so that is pretty nice. At least if Rhule doesn't pan out to be the guy, we will have a talented roster remaining here for the next guy to work with.

I would certainly not give him another season but then again I would not have hired him in the first place. IMO, they will stick with him another year. Just a feeling.
-
I don't think we will jettison him this offseason unless the wheels come off even more(which is admittedly possible). I believe he has one more season in Carolina before we get rid of him.
-
Sam Darnold was also complete ass yesterday. There is no reason to laud him as some sort of "above it all" savior. He has turned the ball over 7 times in a three game span. He, much like the bulk of the team on Sunday, poo the bed.

OL is a massive, franchise torpedoing problem. So, we must get it better. It doesn't even have to be good with only a single offseason to replace 7-8 offensive lineman. Just get me 1-2 more quality starters next to Moton. That's at least a start. QB is unlikely to be addressed in this coming offseason, so we will have to suffer through Darnold another season most likely. Outside of that, the offense has more than enough weapons to compete.

Who’s the best head coach in Carolina Panthers history?

Slight nod for Fox over Rivera. Combined back to back winning seasons between the two: 0 -
1. Will I order this food extra spicy? 2. Will it give me diarrhea? 3. Will I be able to get to the toilet? 4. Will this emergency diarrhea be easier to handle than watching the remainder of the Panthers 2021 season?

Agreed. It's better to have a bridge QB like Darnold taking these shots. He doesn't have a future here as a starter, so he can do what he does while we build a better team around him. We basically only have him through 2022 anyway and he will be gone.
-
Yeah, I missed the key word which changes that entire post. NOT

Sam is probably the second biggest problem on the team behind the raging dumpster fire at OL. But this was just a game we were destined to lose. The stalwart defense wilted, our WR's got a case of the Crisco hands.....it was crazy. At some level I am glad it is Sam out there getting drilled and not some promising rookie we drafted. It's pretty clear Darnold is going to be the future here so let him work out the kinks on offense while we keep building that OL in 2022.

This has to be said: Cam Newton is vaccinated and available
kungfoodude replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, the QB we ruined by not protecting him with an adequate OL put behind a line that is worse than he ever had. Let me guess how that ends up. -
If you look at our third quarter stats for the season, it is insane how poorly we play in that quarter.

Sam is definitely the same player he was with the Jets but it was a team effort on offense today. Just awful.
