He has actually not retired. He just won't play unless he gets the money he thinks he deserves. My guess is that is a price no one in the NFL is willing to pay.

I don't think he probably will ever be the same, sadly. But we will see flashes and it will be Cam. After all we have been through at that position since unceremoniously dumping him in the dustbin, that's enough.

Seeing more and more projections with Howell not in the first round. I would not be adverse to trade up some 2023 draft capital(not the 1st) to snag him in the 2nd, potentially.

Having a high draft pick might have made sense in 2020 because of the strength of that QB class(not that it mattered because we had a chance and passed on two of them). This class is not that way. If you want a QB of relatively the same quality, they should be available for the first two rounds(at least). We might miss out on other elite prospects in the top 10(or we still might end up with a top 10 pick) but the odds of us losing out were a little bit of a longshot, regardless. As long as we have a 1st round pick, we should be able to snag a starting caliber player, regardless of where it is. Especially with our main needs being QB and OL.

If the question is "Best QB available?" Cam is probably the answer. If the question is, "QB that is better than anything we have?" Cam Newton is the answer. He doesn't answer many more questions than that. I don't think even the most ardent Cam Homer believes he is gonna come in here, be 2015 Cam and lead us to the Super Bowl. At best, we are just excited to see a competent QB on the field and the return of arguably the greatest player in franchise history. Anything more than that is just icing.
