How high are you exactly?
-
In your post you are talking about Sam as a rookie and him potentially being a long term guy for us. That isn't gonna happen. This may very well be the last stop in Sam Darnold's NFL career.
-
If you can't see it, none of us can make you see it. So, enjoy continuing to believe there is a Santa Claus.
-
It's a narrative that gets pushed but it is also completely untrue. His clean pocket stats are as bad or worse than his under pressure stats. Pressure isn't the big problem, his ability to understand and react to what he is seeing on the field is. That is why he isn't good backup material.
-
The problem is there isn't a backup QB in the NFL that has the issue seeing the field like he does. So that actually makes him what you don't want as a backup QB.
-
Yeah, there is no reason to cut him until him being on the roster is knocking someone off. If we don't have a 3rd QB, we could even kerp him for that.
-
If we can't somehow dump him in a trade, I would just cut him. He is taking up room on the roster and cannot help us even in the case of injury. It's just time to move on if he can't be moved.
-
Yeah, that makes sense. Not so much the narrative that we are intentionally hiding him to save face.
-
Well you could also just bench him.
-
Imagine coming on to a platform for bullshitting about various topics and then complaining about people bullshitting about various topics. Imagine that. How to tell me you are a hipster without telling me you are a hipster.
-
I don't know. He was watching Sam Darnold literally almost single handedly lose game after game but only out PJ in during an impossible scenario for a 4th quarter. Seems like he didn't much believe in PJ either.
-
I am inclined to agree on this. I do think that Tepper's mood probably had some impact. He may not have said anything explicit about making a change but I am sure he was in a foul mood at the office and Rhule could read the tea leaves on that.
-
Not sure which is worse for us, a meddling owner or the scenario where the owner HAS to force Rhule to make a better move at QB. Neither are good, that is for sure.
-
That would be a pretty cowardly move, IMO. Don't get me wrong, glad it ended up that way but that would be pretty chickenshit.
-
What I hope Rhule learns from this(hopefully successful) season is the value of veteran leadership on a team. And Cam isn't the only example of that. Think about Snow's quote about Stephon Gilmore wanted to get Kyle Pitts in the ATL game. That is another example of veteran leadership that I think has been relatively lacking for an EXTREMELY young team. It was one of the things I was most concerned about when they went into this rebuild in earnest in 2020. They also jettisoned/lost all of our leaders(some deserving, some not). We never really regained that until this season. You need those guys who have experienced success in the NFL and know what it takes to succeed. It's invaluable.

Yeah. The fact they are afloat is a tribute to how good their pillhead coach is. And we beat them at their prime. I hope Cam is hitting on all cylinders by that game. I would LOVE to go down to Nawlins and get the brooms out on those bitches.
-
The amazing thing was that he somehow got worse here. Which, even to those of us that knew it was a huge mistake to acquire him, doesn't make me feel good about our staff and their ability to develop a young QB. Don't get me wrong, I realize Darnold was beyond hope but you would still think he'd be a LITTLE better than last season.
-
I saw you reply to that and my head was like....

Way too early look at ‘22 Offseason
kungfoodude replied to Santee_Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
He isn't a good QB even when his feet are set. The OL isn't THE problem. Sam Darnold was THE problem. -
Both the Panthers and WTF's are bottom 10 in turnover differential, so that will be an important key to victory. They like coughing the ball up as much as Sam Darnold does.
-
Yeah, especially knowing he is only 38 in that picture.
-
Well, Tampa isn't a BAD defense. They are still top 10 in yds/game. However, their pass defense is very suspect, they are middle of the pack in points allowed, and bottom 10 in adjusted sack rate. They do force a lot of INT's for being a suspect defense. That is something we have to watch against them. Thankfully the scourge of Sam Darnold is lifted but PJ is careless with the ball, as well. I don't think it should be too much to ask to split with Tampa with our defense.
-
Matt Rhule, please report to the principal's office.
-
The thing is, though.....Tampa, NO and Buffalo aren't as scary as they once were. There are definitely weaknesses to exploit in all those teams. Plus....we already beat New Orleans.
