Don't cook the hopium too long or it will become copium.

I am say with 100% certainty that it is a maybe.
-
I could see Taylor potentially competing for that spot if Henderson isn't good.
-
Yeah, that dude has killed my enthusiasm for much of anything Panthers related. But, if at least a couple of these young players pan out, we have something to build on for the next staff.
-
Yeah, it would be nice to see a turnaround. I just have lost the faith in it. I was cautiously optimistic after year 1 but they lost me in the last couple of offseasons(and last season).
-
Disagree.
-
Listen....I didn't specify. The important thing was that the meme was complete.
-
Profit, obviously.

But the thing is.....the opposite has happened. If anything this is one of the best periods for young QB's in a long time. The doldrums were because there was a derth of elite QB talent coming into the NFL and also the NFL wasn't doing something smart, which was tailoring offenses around their new QB's skills instead of trying to shoe horn them into whatever offense it was running. Plus with the insane level of training available to young athletes now, players should be much, much better prepared for the NFL.

Yeah, I don't expect coverage to ever be as good as it was pre-Tepper.

He was dumped because he was a middling player but mainly because he had what most of the NFL believed was a career ending injury. Also, the "sit 'em" strategy is largely a relic from the "three yards and a cloud of dust" NFL era. Smart coaches play their best players. They don't sit them for some oddball idea that this is something that works. We aren't going to agree on this because we don't look at player development the same way. I am a firm believer that great players largely become great on their own accord and you believe success is largely tied to a franchise developing the player. Those are countering opinions, so there isn't much we can do to come to an agreement on that.

I am not sure that the FO is sold on Corral long term(after all, they waited until the late 3rd). My guess is probably not. He's an option among many(including trading for Mayfield). I have no issue seeing Corral start the whole year or Mayfield. As long as it's just not Sam Darnold, I'm good. At least I can watch something different, even if it isn't appreciably better. I am starting to care less about the "future" for this franchise because I don't think the current captains of that ship are doing much more than running it full speed towards the shoals. Hence why I just care about watching something "interesting." Just give me a reason to watch and not want to sell all my tickets or turn the station.

He didn't show much that much in limited time. He strikes me as a project without a clear landing spot. I will point out that Mike Wahle looked at some tape(older 4 Man Rush podcast) and came away with largely the opinion that the gulf was noticeable between him becoming a quality NFL OL and where he was last year. He didn't seem to be too enthusiastic about his prospects.

I mean...it's mini camp, not training camp. I wouldn't get too excited unless we saw a major injury. That's about the only thing that should really move the needle. Great play or terrible play....meh. We will see what happens in TC.

It isn't going to matter for that QB. He is not an NFL caliber player. His 4 years in the NFL have made that abundantly clear. Any improvement would likely be marginal, at best. That does what? Elevate him into the bottom 10 starters in the NFL? That experiment should be over. This isn't like the Teddy situation where he was at least mediocre. He was absolutely awful.
-
I don't expect much. I will accept being wrong. Never can have too many quality OL. But, no, my hopes for BC are that he eventually becomes a good backup.
-
I hope you are right. We need it.
-
Not wearing Panthers gear. Is he behind or in front of the hedges? Any other conspiracy theories I am missing?
-
I was factoring in future picks, as well, but valid point.
-
I believe we would be facing Brissett. Mayfield has played his last down as a Brown. And no....I didn't go into that statement expecting it to rhyme but here we are.
-
Yeah, if we don't see leaps from some of our younger players, that is the most fireable offense of all, IMO. Maybe even more than not winning. It's either a failure of development or evaluation an things cannot trend in that direction or this rebuild is DOA. I wish I was optimistic about the development of most of them but I am very anxious about it, TBH.

Well Reid also played McNabb quite a bit in his rookie year. I wouldn't say that has much to do with Reid's personal philosophy as much as the fact that he had a very solid veteran QB that was coming off a Pro Bowl year(also had a Pro Bowl appearance in Mahomes rookie season). It's always going to be hard to justify putting a literal Pro Bowl QB on the bench. Take a look at Rodgers, as well. What kept him on the bench? HOFer Brett Favre. Guess what kept Rivers on the bench? HOFer Drew Brees. Guess what kept Tom Brady on the bench? Drew Bledsoe. So, the "on the bench" scenario for good QB's is almost exclusively because there was another great QB on the roster at the time. That's also what smarter teams do. Not abandon drafting QB's because you have one.

You can disagree but I have heard plenty of professional athletes mirror what I am saying. That's why I hold that opinion. Even at the professional level there is only so much development they have the time or bandwidth to do. It's on the athlete to take the additional time and effort to keep improving. Carr might have been ruined by that battering but Burrow is out there getting destroyed week in and week out and he drug his team to the Super Bowl. Same with Cam Newton. Does sitting sometimes make the transition a little bit smoother? Yeah, it definitely can. But was sitting for a year the REASON those players were successful? fuging....absolutely not.

I wouldn't disagree except we have no one on the roster capable of playing at an even mediocre level for that LT spot. Below average would be an improvement.
