I am not sure that is the case anymore. He hasn't played well for us and has continued to be injured. I don't think he is high on many radars.
-
We may just stash him on the PS. At this point I am not sure how many suitors he would have to snag him off there.
-
If we make this trade, I don't want to hear anything about Rhule having lost personnel power again.

Cohesive OL play. That's my biggest concern at the moment.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34442049/2022-nfl-rookie-updates-preseason-notes-impressions-stats-all-32-first-round-draft-picks 6. Carolina Panthers Ikem Ekwonu, OT How he has fared so far: There will be growing pains. You saw that in the second preseason game when he gave up consecutive sacks in the first quarter. You also see flashes of why he was the sixth overall pick with his run blocking and ability to pancake defenders. Making him the starting tackle comes with risks, but long term it was the right move. "When the ball is snapped, Ickey can block out the sun,'' offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said. -- David Newton 7. New York Giants (via CHI) Evan Neal, OT How he has fared so far: The one thing that stands out about Neal this summer is his sheer size. He's massive even when standing next to other big offensive linemen. He makes right guard Mark Glowinski (6-4, 310) appear small. "I am a big dude," said Neal, who is listed at 6-foot-7, 350 pounds. "I'm pretty sure that most people that see me have that same reaction." This has been evident in the run game, where Neal has thrived. He has had his ups and downs (especially in one-on-one drills) this summer as a pass-blocker. That could take time and lead to some growing pains as a rookie. -- Jordan Raanan 9. Seattle Seahawks (via DEN) Charles Cross, OT How he has fared so far: Cross has taken virtually all the first-team reps at left tackle and has looked every bit the O-line cornerstone the Seahawks have hoped he'll be -- even with a big blemish on his summer résumé. Cross was flagged for four false starts and a hold in the first three quarters of Seattle's second preseason game. Before that, he'd drawn strong reviews from players and coaches. His transition from a pass-heavy college scheme -- in which he didn't play from a three-point stance -- hasn't been a noticeable issue. "He's a really solid rookie," Seahawks defensive lineman Shelby Harris said. "Big, strong, physical hands, good feet ... a good pass-protector, strong, good bend, athletic, really everything. He has all the physical traits you want in an offensive tackle." -- Brady Henderson 19. New Orleans Saints (via PHI) Trevor Penning, OT How he has fared so far: It has been an up-and-down camp for Penning, who has made more waves nationally for igniting some training camp fights than his play to date. Penning hasn't done enough to this point to unseat veteran James Hurst at the left tackle position, but the Saints are pleased with his progress and like the edge he displays -- as long as it doesn't actually cross the line. -- Katherine Terrell

It could bring it down or it could make it rise. It depends on which dominoes fall and what the market is for each of the QB's that is now out of a job. For the most part, the bulk of those QB's wouldn't be viewed very favorably by the NFL as a whole.
-
It depends, Miami could sour on Tua, Ravens could decide to let Lamar go, Steelers may decide they don't have their guy, Texans may move on from Mills, Eagles may decide none of their QB's is the guy, Washington may decide none of their QB's are the guy, Chicago may get cold feet on Fields, Falcons may decide they need a QB, Saints DO need a QB. Those are all situations that aren't that far from changing in the next season.

ESPN Early 2023 NFL Draft Projection
kungfoodude replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am consistently amazed that college fans assume statistical success in college is a 1:1 with statistical success in the NFL. -
He may benefit from a complete derth of quality FA QB's next offseason. Outside MAYBE Lamar Jackson, there is no high caliber FA QB in 2023. I wouldn't be surprised to see him with a shorter term but expensive contract. Provided he plays well this season, of course.

Van Dyke is my guy. He has an "it" factor about him. -
The cap would matter a lot for the suggested franchise tag. That actually dramatically limits what we can do with the cap.

It just makes you wonder if these people have ever even seen our roster at all. -
7. Carolina Panthers Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State* Baker Mayfield will get a trial year as the starter under center, and maybe he can keep the team out of the QB market next April. Kentucky's Will Levis could be the long-term answer in this spot, especially since Matt Corral is the only passer under contract beyond 2022 at the moment. But for now, I'm looking elsewhere: Smith-Njigba is a true WR1 candidate and is as efficient as they come out of the slot, posting more than 1,600 receiving yards last season. A smooth and consistent pass-catcher, he presents mismatch opportunities inside, and pairing him with DJ Moore would give the Panthers a creative 1-2 punch. Biggest needs: QB, LB, DL

We were the only team that attempted to trade for him, so one.
-
The QB market has exploded so those deals aren't likely to be relevant for anything outside of a fringe starter type. If he balls out, it's gonna be expensive to resign him.
-
I don't think that is true at all. After all, he had to change his guaranteed contract so that he had to "earn" his money. Then he shows up to have to compete for the job. If anything, they have shown they have very little belief in him at all. This may very well be to rehabilitate his career for a better opportunity, because we basically have him on a one year "prove it" deal.
-
I think the long term deal is more complex than just Mayfield playing well. He may decide that he doesn't want to be here for a variety of reasons(bigger contract, better opportunities with another team, Panthers coaching change, etc). If he plays VERY well, I am definitely not against getting him on a long term deal. It might get hairy if he plays fairly well but the Panthers don't win many games. If that happens, how much money are we going to be willing to commit? Pro Bowl caliber season might also lead to a massive deal, however. Keep that in mind.

Oh I know. With Wilson they are probably a playoff team now. fug them even more.

The Broncos deserve it. fug them.

Wrong. All those media outlets that have him as a bottom 5 NFL coach are just all crazy. It's working. 1000%. None of them can see it.
