Report. Panthers pivoting from Shane Steichen
kungfoodude replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah but that doesn't exactly remove the point being made. More of these guys have flamed out than been successful. It's not anywhere close to 100% success rate. -

People assume every young, hotshot OC is Sean McVay and that just isn't the case. Not all these guys in their 30's are going to have their ducks in a row immediately. -
A coach lasting 10 years with a team is pretty rare. There are only five of those in the NFL currently.

Pete Carroll, Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Andy Reid, etc, etc, etc.

Lol. That's some Twit that someone turned into a meme. -
I once worked on some disaster of a project for a Fortune 500 company and had direct access to a specific VP. Just an insane POS of a human being, although he could put on "the face" when he was in front of a crowd. One of the long time employees at this company told me that he had been pulled up through the ranks of this company by a mentor and eventually he was promoted to VP over his mentor(whom he jumped in rank with that promotion). He stripped his mentor of all power and basically gave him a job sitting in a desk somewhere twiddling his thumbs until he ultimately fired him. Those are the type of people that most commonly rise to that level of power in those sort of companies. Most NFL owners are those kind of people. Every person that rises to the level that Tepper did in his industry is that type of person.

I tend to think this. Not a splash hire but a very respectable one, a departure from our previous hires and should be a guy that can put a very well respected staff in place for us. That's one thing that people said about Dan Campbell after he was initially panned because of his crazy interviews. Once he started to put his staff together, it immediately caught the attention of NFL people because he made a lot of very, very good hires.

It was actually covered in here, FWIW. -
Lol. In fairness, keep in mind that Steve Smith still has a chip on his shoulder about his scouting evaluation. Not saying he doesn't have a point but he also might be more than a little biased.

We do have a thread about all this, BTW. -
Depends on how smitten he is with Payton. That's one rumor that just keeps trucking on, valid or not. Keep in mind he did give Jimmy Johnson that level of control so it isn't completely unprecedented for him.
-
Makes me think that it will really take a Raiders/Gruden scenario for him to be able to return. Maybe the Cowboys in the future? I think a lot of these owners are wise to giving over complete control to a head coach.
-
Well, I guess the next question is did Tepper enjoy watching? What if he was beating off to Dan Morgan and Tepper was also into it?
-
I'd be very confused why they wouldn't immediately hire him with that sort of confidence.
-
Yeah, Wilks just seems to be doing the same thing we have done basically forever. Not that it is the worst thing ever but it hasn't led to back to back winning seasons and has only led to 7 winning seasons in 28 years. But....I guess we did get Superb Owl appearances with the last two versions of Steve Wilks.

Which candidates would YOU interview in round two?
kungfoodude replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
To us? What sports radio? -
Yeah, exactly. It seemed pretty obvious.
-
I can totally imagine that. I can imagine what they looked like as I was in the fetal position, hyperventilating with laughter.
-
I don't know why they tried to run it again after the TO. Then again, when I saw the pass, I did immediately think that wasn't where Dak was probably supposed to go with the ball.
-
The Bieniemy scenario is so profoundly strange. The fact that he hasn't been hired is a red flag alone. He must really not interview well at all.
-
I can't necessarily agree with that. He might be an imperfect candidate but Hackett was just what his name suggested. His coaching history literally did prove that prior to being hired.
-
That would be interesting to see it move that fast.
-
Well, I mean.....it does kind of sound like we aren't going to let him pick all his coaches here so.....

I wouldn’t be mad if Fitterer was fired
kungfoodude replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
We were extremely luck to get what we did for CMC. There were not going to be many suitors at what they traded for him. That was actually a huge win for Fitterer. -
That's a very bad comparision. Moore actually does call plays, Hackett did not at Green Bay.
