I think we will be a 4 win team too. Probably beat Dallas and then one NFC South win. I don't think that ends up as top 5, though. Likely 6-10 range. Hella competition for that #1 overall.

Look, I wish it was different but we have a fuging retarded owner so we are likely to be utter chaos for a long time. You may as well embrace the suck, homie. It just is what it is.
-
I mean, so was Nathaniel Hackett.
-
I mean, do you want to keep firing darts at this board blindly? How badly do you want to cement our status as the new Browns?
-
The difference is that some of us have been fans since the very beginning. That's 30 years of this poo. Most of that time was without a franchise QB. This is not anything new to OG fans. Been here before. Your ideas of instant contender status with a QB are quite frankly, moronic. There are several years left of building, even with Pat Mahomes.

You are making the mistake that all desperate GM's and coaches typically do right before they get fired. Also the same mistake that keeps bad franchises that way for a long time. Also.....LITERALLY THE SAME MISTAKE THAT LED TO US TRADING UP TO GET BRYCE YOUNG. You can't get so hyperfocused on one position(even the most important position in football like QB) that you just draft a QB and any QB. This leads to wasted draft picks and years of torment as you are stuck in a development cycle for nothing. Sanders and Ward are unquestionably high caliber NFL propsects. They are also not particularly universally viewed as "can't miss" guys. If we deem them as the BPA when we are picking, so be it. If not, also fine. Fanboi out all you want but when it basically leads you down the "I HOPE WE LOSE ALL THE GAMES!!! I NEEDZ MY GUYZ!!!!" road, it isn't going to end well. That's not being a fan of a team, that's just being a player fan. Also, if we don't get our franchise QB this draft....oh well. We got the next dozen or so drafts to keep taking cracks at it. Same as anyone else in the same spot that we are.

I would argue this has literally always been the case for almost the entire existence of the NFL. There are substantially more busts than hits, across all rounds. I would say also that there doesn't appear to be much evidence for college quarterbacks being less prepared than before. Certainly in some cases they are vastly underprepared but that has always been the case. I would definitely make the argument that in every single major sport that athletes are VASTLY more experienced than 20, 30 and more years ago. A lot of that is due to earlier specialization in sport(versus just playing all the sports from K-12), DRAMATICALLY more reps and practice(travel ball, summer leagues, etc) and far greater access to specialized training(most high end players/prospects have specific trainers even before college). All of these things were not readily available decades ago. So the theoretical "10,000 reps" are being hit far, far sooner for most younger athletes. As for the argument for "gimmick offenses" being a problem. I mean....think about how prevalent things like the triple option were in the 70's, 80's and even 90's. Or just offenses in general that were absolutely extinct at the NFL level. I think there are some general issues with certain positions and the development cycles in college but overall, the development in college has actually improved tremendously. The thing is, it's never going to improve enough to where you are just getting insanely high hit rates on prospects or large percentages of draft picks immediately playing like 8 year veterans. It will never really work like that.

The merchandise sales are such an infinitesimally small portion of NFL revenue as to be completely laughable. The NFL is as prone to wanting big market teams or traditional powers to succeed as any other major professional sport in the country. I don't really think there is a lot of evidence of "team bias" as much as there is ample evidence of "star player bias." The NFL has suffered from that for decades. It's also not as prevalent as it is in the NBA, which is just transparently tilted towards the star players. Overall, this season the refs have stood out more for their general incompetence rather than anything fishy. Still not as bad as some referees in professional sports(but MILES better than the glorified rec. refs that are in college sports). There does appear to be a general decline in the NFL refs this season. Haven't paid enough attention to see if it is certain crews or not.

Robert Hunt Grunts....a lot (mic'd up in Munich)
kungfoodude replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
So for the "tankers" show me on this video where a good time to tell these dudes to lay down and lose is? -
Yeah, we have had some amazing HR's in free agency(and some unforgettable blunders). I think we are just seeing the recency bias of second generation or new Panthers fans(probably 2015 onward).

Yeah, Mays is still a backup caliber player and Lawrence is an absolutely elite DT. Frazier was the way. Most of our OL would have been locked down for multiple years.
-
Yeah, this roster is bereft of any top 25 pass rush talent. Clowney is the closest and he is far closer to being retired than being a core player for us. We have a smattering of players that can be decent rotational or average-ish starters, but nothing close to elite talent minus Brown. This front 7 will need to be completely rebuilt over the next 2-4 offseasons.
-
Yeah, look at the one rep from Sunday when Mays got dog walked straight back by Lawrence. That is the poo that gets QB's rattled and flushed. This year those instances have been far rarer.
-
Yes. It literally happens all the time. Our own coaching staff has done this in multiple games this year. It's called incompetence.
-
They were not trying to lie down. If you want to see what that looks like, see the Philly mutiny that led to Doug Pederson's firing.
-
Eh.....that's still TBD. It is a HELL of a race for these top 10 picks though. Lots of these teams play each other over the last part of the season, so we will see some sorting of the order.
-
Likely just ends up being hallucinogenic.
-
I don't think he is as good as someone like Robert Saleh but he is a very capable DC. He has done what he can with some very, very talent deficient rosters here.
-
That would be weird since Ikey has allowed one sack all season. I think it's more he is getting a little more time and distance from his battering in 2023. That takes time to get over and continuing to get your brains bashed in makes it exponentially worse(see Carr, David). That said, he still makes the occasional insane decision from a clean pocket.
-
They are not really a "blow you out" team this year. It might be closer than we thinking while also being comfortably out of reach.
-
Not even Dan Snyder was that insane. I am sure Dave had to pitch a case to Tepper in his weekly meeting but I don't think it was a hard sell. I am not sure it will be a tough sell to bench Bryce again, either.

The guys that don't love it and aren't otherworldly talented, they don't last at all. The guys that don't love it and ARE otherworldly talented, a lot of them don't last that much longer. Make no mistake, the NFL is work. Hard work, at that. And if you are a fringe guy, there are hundreds of guys that are champing at the bit to take your job.

No. He cannot. Even a little.
