2024-25 Regular Season Thread(non-canes)

Ignore the weirdos bud. Hockey is hockey and it's wonderful -
Begrudgingly, I'm paying Bally money again. $20/month isn't awful for a hockey season but it still isn't optimal. fuging dumb that I have to pay anything. Fox Sports South was fine. I had my TV service and was set. fuging dumb the way TV has changed

Everybody keeps forgetting D-Will his rookie year. You play Brooks to split some carries. If he performs, you have two solid backs that can be in on any down. Whole playbook potentially available regardless who is in. If you think Brooks can handle a majority load this off-season, you move Chuba while his value is high. You then find another RB that can be that 1-2 punch with Brooks for 4-5 years, similar to the Double Trouble days. This isn't a complicated thing.

The amount of people who don't understand blowout losses blows my mind. Canales didn't lose the players here. It was a bad game. They happen in this league to literally every single coach. We beat the Patriots during their dynasty era. Fairly handily. Nobody claimed Bill got out coached by our staff. If you give up on the rookie head coach 4 games in, maybe football isn't your sport. Bryce came in during garbage time and executed a couple of nice passes and got junk yardage. And once the field shrank, he was right back to the Bryce we know. He wasn't put in to appease tepper. He was put in because the game was lost and getting Andy hurt would be dumb. He got hit all game. Plus Bryce got game reps. Easy decision.

We're a team predicated on running the ball. We got down 20 quick because our defense is in shambles playing backups at key slots. Dalton had pressure getting through most snaps. This was a full team L, not helped by Dalton having a bad day. If he plays better it's likely a closer game but a loss.

Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears Gameday Thread
lightsout replied to rodeo's topic in Carolina Panthers
We have a backup defense. Offense has to produce points or we lose every game. Plain and simple -
This is the first loss in at least two years where I am thinking "we needed a stop before or after half. Played a good game, couple mistakes cost us". Like it sucks but it wasn't for lack of effort. Missed some plays, didn't stop them enough, it was a good game overall. On to next week

So nobody likes seeing their franchise languish and nobody likes watching the Titans play teams like the Chiefs. How does the league address lazy owners who don't take steps to fix their teams? How do you incentivize players on shitty teams to give effort? Soccer figured this out long ago. A Relegation system. A friend of mine and I already hashed it out. Playoff system remains the same. The NFL itself gets cut to 20 teams though. Those 20 battle it out for the 12 slots. What of the other 12? Division 2. The 12 Division 2 teams have their own season and playoff consisting of 6 teams. The Championship game in Division 2 gets high draft pick, the runner up and next ranked team get the next 2 picks with the remaining 9 doing a lottery system. So how does one get relegated to Division 2? The bottom 3 NFL teams are relegated as the season ends. The top 3 Division 2 teams replace them. So how does the draft function? You have two real options. 1) Division 2 champion gets the number one pick in the draft. It's their reward for being the best of the bad teams and encourages them to play hard so their team gets their pick of the next draft. 2) Division 2 champion gets the 4th pick. This means your too 3 picks go to relegated teams where they get to rebuild with their newfound talent and earn their way back to contention in the NFL while your Div 2 champion takes their 4th pick to the league. In either case, after all the Div 2 teams draft, the league resumes their usual order of worst teams pick first. I think this adds a layer of urgency and thoughtfulness to owners. You don't want to field good teams? Well you're going to have to prove yourself or your team is going to be stuck in Division 2 forever.

What does “game manager” truly mean?
lightsout replied to Gapanthersfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Andy absolutely has that "fug it, I can fit this there" attitude in him. Some of the throws he hit and others he attempted show that. He's not Favre but I think he absolutely is not just the "let me protect the ball here" kind of guy. If the play is there, Dalton lets it rip. Game managers might second-guess those because the risk of what can go wrong if they miss. At the end of the day though, who gives a fug? Dalton is a gamer and this team is competitive with him leading the way -
Power ranking us one slot behind the team we just bent over pretty handily is preposterous. I'd see it if they were a few ahead and we sneaked by them. But c'mon
-
This is huge for XL and Mingo. They can fill that void and having him on the sideline to coach them up will be huge.

For many of us, we grew up when the league was really centered around balanced attack football. Run the ball, use play action and timing to hit deep balls, repeat. This was perfect football. The physical aspect of the game shined, the most physical team had a distinct advantage. Then the spread seized the league. Teams focused the passing attack and made running backs out to be "nice to haves". There were teams that kept a strong running attack all along, but the number was far fewer than half the league. In 2015, only 7 teams rushed for 2000+ yards. That means most teams went most games without hitting over 125+ yards rushing per game. Every year after saw a steady rise in the number of teams eclipsing that mark, save for an outlier or two. In 2023, that number was 13. This season, I feel like more teams are really focusing on being balanced. The rise in speed and high flying offense led to defenses being less physical, leading to physical offenses returning. Boys... we're so back. Thank god our staff understands it and are using it as our plan of attack.

I think he'll be slowly introduced. Think D-Will in his rookie year. By season's end, if he's playing well, he and Hubbard will be sharing evenly unless one is especially hot. Sanders will get in on two back sets some and have packages designed as long as he is here, but he's mostly going to be the guy to fill if the other two go down or need a few minutes off
-
Yeah the more I watch, the more I'm convinced that's the move. Bryce cannot do what Andy has done today by any measure. Andy has truly put on a clinic of effective QB play. Even the negative plays just hit as "defense gets paid too" kinda plays. I've had no complaints out of a Panthers game since....well, the last time Andy started a game
-
While I agree, I appreciate that our pass rush is disciplined. They're not giving any lanes to escape and they're not getting whooped. For sure we need some beaters to emerge, but for what it is, I'll take it over 3 or 4 guys just trying to get off blocks and not caring where they end up
-
Hubbard and Brooks are gonna be a problem. Ship Sanders to whatever team for a ham sandwich as soon as Brooks gets off IR

Continuation - Dalton really is that fuging dude. No, I have no expectations that he's winning us a Superbowl. But I do think we can be a playoff team with him. - Johnson is clearly our best receiver, but they've all looked strong today. - Run blocking is there. We seem to struggle zone blocking but our assignment schemes are all solid. Recognizing our strengths there will be key. - defensively, our coverage is not bad but there's holes. We need to figure out if it's scheme where we're just playing bend but don't break or if it's just lack of skill consistency. - special teams is solid. We've kept the field this entire game because the drives that stalled resulted in strong punts and field goals. - Canales can actually coach. He hasn't backed off the game plan with a lead in the third. We're not seeing the more intermediate game as much, but we're definitely still slinging the rock
-
So the first half is over. Here's what we know about our offense. - Dalton is damn good at just playing the QB position. Our run game has complimented him. - the OL is good, but not flawless. Exotic blitzes hurt us - our WR position has talent! DJ is also savvy enough to make guys miss and get out of bounds. - Bryce is either sitting until Dalton retires a Panther or he's traded.

Can Hockey Season Hurry Up Already?

We'll be alright. It's gonna take Rod allowing for some flexibility for us to win the cup. He has a pretty tight grip on what he expects and I feel like he has trouble adjusting when he should -
How long before Panthers are good again?
lightsout replied to Wanderlai's topic in Carolina Panthers
We're perpetually a year or two away from being good. The problem is by constantly trying to retool roster, we trade our talent for the hope that we can replace their production and then don't. We end up with a bunch of misfits and no culture. -
Two things can be true. Bryce didn't have pieces around him last year, really. He had some, like Thielen and Chuba, but the line sucked. The rest was very meh. Including the coaching and system. Now, the line is improved and I think our receivers are better and I think our coaching likely is... but Bryce has been too bad to truly tell. Bryce got the numbers he has this season for a reason, and it isn't because he's just a poor kid playing with the worst supporting cast in the league.
-
Cautious optimism. We haven't been able to really evaluate the offense as fans outside of the ol because Bryce has been so fuging bad. We're gonna see what we have across the board (finally).

Well good. I just want emotion out of the guy. Football is a game of emotion. This humble stoicism just doesn't work for me from team leaders. Give me real
