Mike Remmers will start at left tackle in the Superbowl.
Khyber53 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
They also scheme smartly to make best use of their line. Mahomes has a quick release and is very mobile. He rolls out often to the right side (and the run game often works to the right) and this allows Remmers to keep his man in front of him and just maul the guy rather than kick-step and pass block. That's smart and moving him to LT just because he has experience isn't a good plan, as we learned the hard way. Of course, he's blocking for Mahomes rather than Cam and that is to Remmers' advantage as well. -
I don't necessarily agree. I don't think Watson, Stafford or Rodgers are coming here and I don't like the financial/draft hit they would engender. I also don't think that Watson or Rodgers' egos would fit with our coaching staff. Do we need a top 10 pick at QB to win? If Penei Sewell drops to us at 8 as Daniel Jeremiah was suggesting, then we'd be stupid to not take him and then swing for a QB in the 2nd round. We can win big without the big name QB with the massive price tag. If we can get a polished, pro-style program QB from the second round of the draft (like Mac Jones) paired with a good line, then we can win. We have so many weapons here on offense and I believe our defense is improving. Not to mention, in free agency, that second tier of available QBs (and more affordable ones) is going to have some big names in it. Who knows what could be out there?

You know, for all of the Huddle expertise in evaluating players, Remmers has had a long career and will very likely be getting a Super Bowl ring in two weeks. Also, I'd imagine that he will remain at RT (where he's spent the better years of his career). Maybe our group mind isn't as smart as we think it is.- 64 replies

Prime Tom Brady or Prime Aaron Rodgers - Who would you want?
Khyber53 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Is it okay to think that both Brady and Rogers are massive jerks? -
I'm not big on the idea of trading for a QB, honestly. If we had to take one of the two, though, I'd go with Stafford on cap hit alone. Both can win in the right system with some protection. Four years from now, though, both will be nearing the end of their pro football journeys and we'll have to start this mess over again. Make the right pick of a QB in the draft and that person will be in their prime at that same spot in time... Just saying.

Personally, I'd say, yeah, we'll take him and his $40 million a year contract off your books for YOUR first rounder this year and next. If you think he's going to sweep in here, we lose a couple of stars and a first round pick AND he's going to renegotiate for a team friendly deal, you're just fooling yourself. To think we'd lose those stars and picks and then win because we got a magical dude from the AFCSouth is also the height of naivety. This is the NFL equivalent of getting hosed at a used car lot.

Who's your favorite current Panthers player?
Khyber53 replied to Carl Spackler's topic in Carolina Panthers
Zach Kerr, I just get a kick out of him. If nothing else for that slow walk on he did to give the other team a delay of game penalty. Plus, the guy filled in well for KK giving us a more traditional DT performance. CMC, Samuel and Shaq follow closely behind. -
Fox analyst says he heard that Watson has interest in Panthers!
Khyber53 replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we pick up Watson it shows nothing more than we can't do math. -
Would save us what, a measley $2 million that year? Still looking at a huge amount of dead money. Much wiser to grab a first round QB at rookie deal money (and guarantees) and have Teddy on hand for mentoring and as a back-up (albeit a highly priced one). Otherwise with Watson we end up fielding him, PJ Walker, JJ Jansen and a half decent Arena league team for the money we have left. Nah, man, let someone else play that game.

That everyone was passing on. While he had HoF'er Brett Favre at QB.

It took the Patriots 30 years to become good
Khyber53 replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thirty years of sifting through the debris to find a diamond everyone else missed. And even they weren't too big on him until an injury turned it into a necessity. -
Why in the world would Teddy do anything but say, "I'm gonna sit here and make my $20+ million on the bench while you pay Watson even more"? No one is going to be foolish enough to trade for Watson with that contract. Right now Watson and the Texans are floating this out there to see if anyone is crazy enough to make a massive trade AND pay Watson the money. Someone might, but most likely it will be announced before the season that Watson and the Texans have made up and worked out a more cap-friendly deal spread over multiple years.

One of the best ones out there. Sad to hear this.
-
How about they give us two firsts so we can take that contract off their books?

You are just a hand grenade looking for a cesspool aren't you?

Watson not the only big name vet at QB that we're looking at?
Khyber53 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think Tepper is doing a bit of work to drive prices up in the market with no intention of going there. Some times a fellow can sit in an auction and be a troll, just politely upping the price to keep the pot boiling. What if the Jags and Jets decided to instead grab Watson and Stafford? There's a lot of spin out there and I think Tepper isn't playing chess, but poker instead. -
Hits never look that forceful in slow-motion, which is the way this is all being judged. It's not that someone gets hit in the head or their head hits something, it's if the brain sloshes around in the brainpan and bruises itself against the skull. That can happen easily without a direct exterior impact, especially when someone gets whipped around like he did, at the speed it actually happened.
-
Best of the world to him. Good guy. He'll have a gold jacket in a few years.
-
I certainly hope so. You build lines, you don't buy them. Draft OT and C. Find the biggest, meanest, smartest UDFA guards available. Want to change the culture and change the toughness of the team, start with the five big guys on the O-line. The o-line should look like the final boss' most dangerous henchmen.

Because of the fat contract, because there is a new coach/GM there and because he can refuse a trade to a deadend team, most likely he will remain a Houston Texan.

He has his work cut out for him.

Washington Football Team finalizing deal with Marty Hurney
Khyber53 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'll say it again, this place will have a total meltdown if Ron and Marty make it to the Super Bowl there before we do. Ron already beat us to the playoffs. Back when Ron was still our coach but the writing was on the wall, I warned that Ron could make his team relevant before we were rebuilt and rolling again. That's kinda already started happening. Now with Marty there, the slap against us could be even louder. But hold faith, because I think we're trying to do something with a longer lasting impact and that will take some time as strong foundations take a lot of work to build. We may see Football Team (dang what a stupid name) advance before us thanks to a weak NFCEast, but I think we are trying to position ourselves for the long run in a tough division that is aging out of its prime. We'll win the marathon even if we get beat in the sprints. -
If I were him I wouldn't mention renegotiating the deal. Some fool wanting to make a big impression will drop a bundle on him and ride that out. Or no one will and DeShaun will stay in Houston and make them pay it until they can finally cut him after 2023 for the smaller cap hit. He's a marvelous player and could make a huge impact for a team like ours. The sticker shock and already openly wanting to leave his first team, make him an unattractive partner with us, in my opinion... especially when we can take one of the upper tier QBs in the first round on a much, much more attractive rookie deal.

If Watson comes here, it's going to be massively expensive. The 2022 and 2023 cap hits are $40 and $42 million. 2021 is a very nice numbered year ($15.9 million) but that balloon payment following is going to be an anchor tied around our necks as we swim into the next season. Yeah, he's good but no one can take up a third of the salary cap and expect to see much of a team built up around them.
