The only thing I can say about A Game of Thrones is the first 1/3rd is really boring, but important. Once you get over that hump, its all pure awesome. Not much magic though. Yeah, the first 1/3rd of the first book is kind of rough, but after that its all downhill to hell. GRRM > anyone else that writes fiction

Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game is a very good sci-fi novel. I don't know about the series that followed though.

I think the series peaked at book 6. I don't think I ever made it around to reading the 9th or 10th book.

This right here is the best fantasy ever. Possibly the best fiction ever.
