Not complaining college to pro. I use Chang as an example of the folly of stat driven analysis in football. You guys know I don't put huge stock in stats.
-
Dianna Russini has been reporting for a while now that he'll likely be let go. She (and others) don't really see many teams all that enthusiastic to give up anything for him via trade. And no, I don't see Murray as any sort of top performer. Honestly think he'll either be a perennial backup or out of the league within a few years.
-
Statistically speaking Timmy Chang is an NCAA legend. Likewise, if you go by stats then It can be argued that Sam Darnold and Trevor Lawrence are both better quarterbacks than Baker Mayfield right now. Would you accept that as fact? Football is just too complicated and team dependent a game to rely on stats as your top evaluation tool.
-
Yes, eye test. And you and I disagree on this. Murray will almost certainly be a free agent this offseason. Would you want the Panthers to pursue him? (I don't)
-
Understood, and lots of rookies at various positions need almost remedial training these days. There are guys who pick it up within a year or two though.
-
Statistically perhaps... Better quarterback? Disagree. For whatever you think of the Panthers decision making, there's at least an argument to be made for Bryce continuing to start. Murray is gonna be looking for work, and I seriously doubt any other team is going to offer him a starting job. Also haven't really seen anyone suggesting Arizona should keep him.
-
Fully expect him to adjust quicker. But he can't age slower.
-
Murray isn't, and he's likely out of a job at season's end. Brissett? Haven't seen enough but I know he's not getting starter offers. Pretty good backup though.
-
Yeah, I've seen the clip. To my knowledge, that's never been done before. Hell, I wouldn't have believed it was possible either
-
Gotcha. I asked because PD was responding to me in the post you quoted. I'm definitely not "pro Bryce" but I've accepted that he's probably the starter here for at least next year... possibly the year after also.
-
Don't know if I'd describe Todd Wash as having "heavy" ties but he does have ties. Depending on title and contract situations, Gus Bradley Could be an option. He's currently listed as the "Assistant Head Coach for Defense" in San Francisco although Saleh is the game day DC. Wash was Bradley's DC when Bradley was head coach of the Jags.
-
The trade off for him is likely gonna be a shorter career though. Being a 26 year old rookie in the NFL is something of an uphill climb.

Is this the best timed ‘bye’ we’ve ever had
Mr. Scot replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Definitely up there... -
Sadly, I wasn't watching when the pick / fumble combo play happened, but damn do I wish I was Also given that Lady Cowboy Fan despises the Eagles, I'm sure she would have loved it too.
-
Me? Where would you get the idea I'm "clinging to hope" or disagreeing that the trade up to take Bryce was a huge mistake? It was a massive mistake. It set us back years as a franchise. If it were up to me, I'd prefer to put it in the rear view mirror and move on... ...but I don't realistically see that happening.
-
Cardinals probably also...
-
For others? Don't know. I can't speak for them. As far as our experts picking Bryce, come on, dude. You know how that went down just as well as I do. You should also know that a good number of the people who were part of that decision (GM, Director of College Scouting, others) are no longer employed here. And the one guy who pretty much everyone believes disagreed with the decision was given his waking papers even before they were. I could make an argument that level of success sometimes masks deficiencies in play (i.e. Alabama quarterbacks) but even that argument is kind of pointless because we all know how Bryce got here.
-
He will if he's smart... or if his agent is smart. Not about to try and predict that outcome
-
Yeah...No. When John Elway did it, it was entitled behavior. When Eli Manning did it, it was entitled behavior. Those two guys were significantly better quarterbacks than Sanders, and thus way better positioned to act like brats than Sanders was, but that doesn't excuse their actions. My guess would be either Sanders, or more likely...his dad, thought he was on their level. The NFL disagreed. The guy he ultimately ends up bearing a closer resemblance to is Pat White from WVU. White didn't refuse to be drafted by any particular team, but he let it be known in team interviews that he would not play a Kordell Stewart "slash" type role (back when that was popular). That dropped him on a lot of draft boards, and he wound up being nothing special at the pro level. I've long believed his attitude was part of that. His athletic skills were phenomenal and he was great at the college level, but hIs NFL career is basically a footnote. Sanders Will likely be more memorable than White was, but probably more so for highlight reels than actual success.
-
Telling a top tier team that wants to draft you in the first round that You don't want to play for them because you don't want to be a backup to their established star quarterback doesn't strike you as dive behavior?
-
I don't know that anyone's expecting anything like that. Most are predicting the fifth year option but anything beyond that is speculation. Dan Graziano pondered the possibility of a short-term, mid-range contract but that's it.
-
The thing with the Ravens wasn't exactly a positive. As far as his abilities, his college tape showed a guy that made occasional highlight reel plays but didn't put together full game performances. So far, what pro analysis I've seen looks about the same.
-
We are discussing possibilities. But most of us think this particular "possibility" would be a really bad idea. And not only because of his attitude but because while highlight reel scouting of him might paint a rosy picture, bfull game scouting tells a different story.
-
Not well enough to justify what teams have to put up with. Terrell Owens was a phenomenal player, but teams kept dumping him because the drama was too much. Sanders is nowhere close to the kind of player Owens was, so he won't get as much leeway. As far as "the question", when it comes to entitled brats, problem children, headcases, etc. It's only that simple for the fans that have no contact with him other than watching them on TV. For the coaches, players and others that have to deal with them every day, it's not simple at all.
-
The word there is entitlement. And no, NFL teams aren't gonna want to deal with that...nor should they. Realistically, if he didn't have his dad's name behind him, nobody would be hyping this kid as the next big thing.
