Kaye says what a lot of people are thinking...
-
They moved Judge to quarterback coach? I missed that. Oh, lordy
-
It's been said before, but our current front office and coaching staff seem to be very good at keeping things out of the news. Pretty much everything we're hearing is speculation.
-
Seriously
-
My dream? No. I already gave you mine. But if the team actually managed to get their franchise quarterback and get extra picks In the process, especially something like a future first rounder, you'd have to explain to me what about that scenario would be bad. (keeping in mind that the "what if it's a bad pick" question isn't really valid because that can happen either way)
-
Nothing would tickle me more than us picking the right guy. I don't care whether it's at #1, #2 or #80.
-
Oh, I'm not missing the point you're trying to make. The point you're trying to make is wrong. Taking the wrong guy is devastating either way. If we pick Young and he busts, then people are going to point to everything we traded to get to #1 and laugh.
-
That's kind of the point
-
Eeehhh, I don't know that they're "pipe dreams". I wouldn't predict anything like that happening, but it's not that farfetched.
-
If we pick Bryce, he doesn't pan out and CJ does, same result. I see it a lot, but the idea that the whole "what if we make a bad pick" idea only applies to a trade down scenario is kind of silly. We could absolutely stay at #1 and still blow it. Young is no more a guaranteed success than Stroud.
-
Pick 12 seems to be a non-negotiable for the folks who would accept this trade. It's kind of begs the question, if we did get that pick, who would you take with it?
-
Getting a franchise quarterback that you wanted anyway while also recouping some of the draft capital you gave up would make someone a laughingstock? Hell, that's genius.
-
We done know any of that for certain though...
-
See above Besides the "Young or nobody" stories, You've got the added drama of Caserio rumored to be on the way out. (he denies it, but of course he would) If that's true, he could definitely be looking to make a big splash on his way out the door.
-
Always. And if the stories that the Texans are so high on Young and nobody else that they won't take a quarterback at #2 are true, I'd start off by asking for the moon
-
Like Manning and Leaf, though if that's how it turns out I hope we get the "Manning" of this draft. It is, of course, possible that both guys will turn out to be great quarterbacks. It feels like very few of the debates even acknowledge that as a possibility.
-
If we keep #1 and that pick turns out bad, we live in "eternal regret". Making a bad pick is an equal problem no matter where it's made.
-
If they countered with an offer where they keep #33 but give us next year's first, would you take it?
-
I don't know if I'd go so far as calling it a mistake, but the idea does scare the life out of me. Said before that if we do this, I'm gonna be crossing myself every time Young takes a hit... and I'm not Catholic.

Joe Person covered the rationale on both sides in a recent Q&A, though he was talking about Anthony Richardson as the target. So why would the Panthers trade away Moore and four high picks to get in position for an “ideal” quarterback just to trade the top pick and take a quarterback many consider a project? They probably wouldn’t … unless Houston was so smitten with Young that Nick Caserio offered Fitterer a chance to recoup some of the picks he traded to Chicago (plus more) be in a spot to draft Richardson, considered the QB with the lowest floor but the highest ceiling. Link Stroud, of course, would not be a "project" at all.
-
Agree completely. Hell, I'd ask for 12, 33 and next year's first. I might not get 'em but I'd ask
-
Absolutely. I know some fans of Bryce Young find such talk to be anathema, but they really shouldn't. Even if you think Young is better, it's kind of silly to deny just how good CJ Stroud is.
-
Didn't notice that but I fixed it here Verderame's next paragraph was about Anthony Richardson (he had the Lions trading up and taking him) so I'm guessing you screwed up his cut and paste. As to "settling" though, It's all about how the Panthers view them. If they do see Stroud as equal to Young, then a trade down to gain extra picks while still getting a franchise quarterback makes plenty of sense. (though not the one proposed here)
