Take Stroud - Trade Back Into First Round for Jaxon Smith-Njigba?
Mr. Scot replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
What stops the Cardinals taking a crazy offer from someone else though? -
Inside source confirmed they were also comfortable with #2 if that's what ended up being the best deal (the Texans wouldn't likely have wanted to trade down to #9 in their position though). If you're comfortable getting either of two choices, and you can recoup an additional high pick by taking the second, why wouldn't you?

Sources that cover a single team tend to be more reliable than those that cover the entire league. Even so, there have been national sources that also say we're in on Levis (Breer and Rapoport have both mentioned him if I remember correctly). But I'd point to this from Joe Person (same article as before) Young is a special player in his own right. He’s also short — 5 inches shorter than the 6-foot-3 Stroud. That could matter As one personnel official for another team said, “Tepper doesn’t strike me as a non-traits guy.” Again, multiple inside sources have more than once confirmed that the Panthers (and Tepper in particular) like Will Levis. One also confirmed that the Panthers were good trading to first or second overall, which would mean they're comfortable with more than one player. We already know the second isn't Richardson. Anr if, as the above source suggests, It's probably not Bryce Young, then who's left?

See above

#2 and #34 is a deal I'd probably accept. I'd push like hell for #2 and #12 first though

That's part of the negotiation. You have to sell them on the idea. Could they? Unknown.

Person saif the Panthers were ultimately only comfortable with first or second overall. -
My guess is the Texans would too.
-
Also possible that over the next month the Panthers come to a point of conviction on one guy rather than multiple, which would also negate any trades. It's all pretty hypothetical at this point.
-
They'd have to believe that we were prepared to take the guy being really wanted. Mind you, if they're also comfortable with more than one option, this doesn't happen. Person's point though was that if they did want to, the Panthers would talk about it. Don't know how likely it is, but it's possible.

You also had us willing to trade for Jackson. Yeah I know...human nature and all that, but I still prefer inside sources.

(not the question you think, ya bastards) Excerpts from Joe Person's story in The Athletic regarding the Panthers trade up (Link) While Fitterer, Tepper, Frank Reich and the team’s other decision-makers met with free-agent quarterback Derek Carr in Indianapolis, they also had discussions about trading up with several teams during the week. The Panthers were comfortable getting to either No. 1 or No. 2 on the draft board, according to a source with knowledge of the trade talks who was provided anonymity so he could speak freely. That suggests the Panthers feel good about two of the QBs in the group that includes Stroud, Young and Levis, whom Tepper liked after his strong 2021 season in Lexington. ... A source said the Panthers would keep their options open as they attend pro days and bring in Stroud, Young, et al for private visits. And if they reach a point where they feel strongly about two quarterbacks and Houston wants to trade places, the Panthers would consider it, according to a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking. ... Hmmm I took a quick look at the Texans current slate of draft picks and found that besides owning the #2 pick, they also own the #12 spot courtesy of the Cleveland Browns. That left me wondering... Keeping in mind that the Panthers are reported to be comfortable with more than one of their top prospects, if the Texans were willing to swap the second and twelfth overall picks for the top spot, would you make that deal? Why or why not?

Person, Kaye, Williams and others have all echoed Levis as possibility, with many noting that Tepper has been a fan of his since last season.

I think it was Sheena Quick who referred to this week as a rollercoaster for Panther fans. I'd call that accurate.
