To paraphrase Matthew McConaughey, "I get older but the players stay the same age." I'm certainly hoping to see a Panthers Super Bowl victory, but we'll see. Just not gonna panic about preseason either way though...

I've overreacted loads of times in my life, but luckily through the years I learned a thing or two. Heck, just two seasons ago, we thought we were a lock for the playoffs after four games, but by December we saw the truth and most of us were calling for Matt Rhule's head. Further back in 2003, we were (likewise) riding high for the first four weeks before the Tennessee Titans cleaned our clock in week five. The narrative pretty much everywhere was that we'd been exposed as pretenders, but that year ended in some of the best memories we have. You never know...

Every second of it, including fifteen seasons of Marty Hurney and the past three years of Matt Rhule... This is a new team and regime, though. It's way too soon to know who and what they'll be, but I like their pedigree. Actual NFL experience is a huge step up from The Meatball.

I was in high school (and a 49er fan at the time) when The Catch happened. I think I jumped about as high as Clark did My first football memory is of The Immaculate Reception. I was five and my family had the game on at my grandma's house. Saw that play happen and was like "What is this?" Fifty years later, I've played, I've coached, I've studied...hell, my wife gets me books on coaching and scouting for Christmas. And in all of it, I've learned... ... patience. Said elsewhere: It's a marathon, not a sprint. The team you see today will likely beat little to no resemblance to the one you see in December. That's why rushing to judgment is a mistake.

Wait...Grant Young or Grant Gordon?

Since before, actually. I was following when the team was announced. I've been a football fan since 1972. Hell, when I was a kid they played six preseason games. Later on, they cut it down to four, then a few years ago to three. The league is looking to cut it down even further, and general belief is that they will. Through all that time, preseason / exhibition or whatever else they were called, they've always been about player evaluation, nothing more. Hell, these games probably mean less now than they ever did.

"We want answers" is apparently back It never has. Hell, given the changes made in the past few years, if anything it means even less today than it did before.

If Young (or anyone else) gets hurt in the regular season, it won't have jack sh-t to do with us losing preseason games.

It's pretty bad, for sure. Matt Rhule hangover would be my guess.

Starting when I was five or so, I've run about fifty at this point. Coming up on thirty as a Panthers fan. Some good, some bad, some ugly. Hopeful to have thirty or forty more, God willing.

I'm gonna be very interested in next offseason.

This one starts on September 10th. Likely finishes January 7th. Could conceivably last a little longer but I wouldn't expect it. Another one will start about a year later.

Season one of a rebuild, even one with skilled people doing the building, is about laying the foundation. Wins are gravy.

Nah I'm a big fan of maturity though, and that isn't what's being shown here. Ditto patience. Football season is a marathon, not a sprint. Preseason is basically stretching and warming up before you run.
