That's the heart of the question. If the Panthers are as equally "convicted" on Stroud as they are on Young (and yes that's genuinely possible; multiple reports confirmed that they had at least two guys in mind when they traded up) then a trade down scenario truly does make a lot of sense. If not, then no reason to move. My ultimate answer to the whole thing is I don't care who they take or where they take them as long as it turns out to be the right choice. To quote Metallica, nothing else matters.

Nah, he actually meant #2. It was pure speculation, and per his own admission unlikely, but that's what he said. Reading between the lines of some of his more recent stuff, I think he's regretting that he ever said it

Funny you should mention... Caplan points out that if Richardson slides out of the top ten and the Texans don't take a quarterback second overall, they could conceivably pick him up at #12. Wouldn't that be interesting

He threw it out as kind of a "what if" thing. He actually seems to be kind of regretting it now (I think both Richardson fans and Stroud fans are pestering him about it) When asked, he said he still believes the pick would be either Young or Stroud... most likely Young.

I would start my negotiation with "so we've been talking to the Colts". Hell, I'd call the Colts just to scare the sh-t out of the Texans

It's been said before, but our current front office and coaching staff seem to be very good at keeping things out of the news. Pretty much everything we're hearing is speculation.

My dream? No. I already gave you mine. But if the team actually managed to get their franchise quarterback and get extra picks In the process, especially something like a future first rounder, you'd have to explain to me what about that scenario would be bad. (keeping in mind that the "what if it's a bad pick" question isn't really valid because that can happen either way)

Nothing would tickle me more than us picking the right guy. I don't care whether it's at #1, #2 or #80.

Oh, I'm not missing the point you're trying to make. The point you're trying to make is wrong. Taking the wrong guy is devastating either way. If we pick Young and he busts, then people are going to point to everything we traded to get to #1 and laugh.

Eeehhh, I don't know that they're "pipe dreams". I wouldn't predict anything like that happening, but it's not that farfetched.

If we pick Bryce, he doesn't pan out and CJ does, same result. I see it a lot, but the idea that the whole "what if we make a bad pick" idea only applies to a trade down scenario is kind of silly. We could absolutely stay at #1 and still blow it. Young is no more a guaranteed success than Stroud.

Pick 12 seems to be a non-negotiable for the folks who would accept this trade. It's kind of begs the question, if we did get that pick, who would you take with it?

Getting a franchise quarterback that you wanted anyway while also recouping some of the draft capital you gave up would make someone a laughingstock? Hell, that's genius.
