Wentz update: Trade is close, with three teams involved
Mr. Scot replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Regarding the Panthers, this from a collaborative article by several NFL team writers in The Athletic... Multiple league sources told The Athletic that Washington and Carolina are in on most of these veteran quarterbacks. An intra-division trade likely sacks WFT, the Panthers have a connection to Wentz. Pat Stewart, their player personnel director, was a national scout for the Eagles for two seasons before being hired in Charlotte last year. However, league sources don’t view the Panthers as serious bidders for the 28-year-old Wentz, who is coming off the worst season of his career. That first line is...interesting. -

Pace and Nagy probably do really need to hit a home run this season. -

Howie Roseman...oy I've told Eagle fans before that we feel their pain. -

The Eagles reportedly told all of their head coaching prospects that they were sticking with Wentz. They also asked interviewees questions about how they would handle Wentz as part of the process. When the process was over, they hired Nick Sirianni in part because of his connection with one of Wentz's former mentors in Frank Reich. And now they're set to trade him away. Real smooth... -

Washington gets linked to every available quarterback, same as us. Whether or not the Eagles would do it is a valid question. -

Oooohhh, that would be interesting. I had forgotten it, but the article mentions that the Bears also have one of his former coaches in John DeFilippo. -

They did. Just didn't pursue it as aggressively as other teams. -

The Colts have Frank Reich. The Bears have his former quarterback coach John DeFilippo. The 49ers don't have anyone previously connected to him that I know of, but every quarterback wants to play in Kyle Shanahan's system. -

I looked at the article to see if it would identify who team number three is. It doesn't. I grant that it could be us. I just don't think it is. -

The Colts absolutely make the most sense to me. Of course, what makes the most sense frequently isn't what happens in the NFL. -
Part of me still hopes the Jags take Fields just so I can grab some popcorn, sit back and watch the chaos

Eagles beat writer for NJ.com... Teams reportedly in discussion are the Bears, Colts and...someone else. (I don't believe it's us) -
This early in the process that may not even be decided yet.

It's not Marty. No idea how good Fitterer will (or won't) be, but the fact that we're not going into yet another offseason with Marty at the helm feels like a reason for optimism.
-
I get that, and I agree with investigating all possibilities. I just really don't wanna see us do either of those trades.
-
There are 498 other threads about something Albert Breer wrote this morning?
-
Reasonable, and what Breer said here makes me wonder if he believes we'll do that. I know we're "in on every deal" but I don't really want us to be "in on" Darnold, and definitely not on Wentz.
-
Which, to be fair, he chose to do.

When they came out and looked like they were running pretty well in the first drive of the second half, I thought maybe things had changed. Tampa scoring pretty easily on the responding drive probably killed that.

That makes my head hurt
