  1. Here's a perspective I know you'll love... Brain drain...Yeah, that's it.
  2. The Panthers interview process under Tepper seems like it's interview I candidates until you find one you really like then hire them as soon as possible. Sounds kinda like speed dating.
  3. 49ers personnel guy Martin Mayhew got a Rooney Rule interview with us before we made Marty permanent. He got another with Washington last week. If I'm his agent, I probably suggest to him that he decline to interview with teams where Hurney is a candidate.
  4. Some defensive coaches love "do it all" quarterbacks because it allows them to concentrate their resources on the defense. It's why Buddy Ryan loved Randall Cunningham. Ryan was one of Rivera's coaching mentors.
  5. He's also the one who's gets to pick who that GM is going to be. Snyder put him in charge of the search process from the start.
  6. Joe Person had a pretty detailed article where he talked to several of the people involved. Darlington was the guy who scouted Newton and became his biggest advocate when some others doubted him.
  7. From the stories I've read behind the scenes, the guy that was most instrumental in the Panthers deciding to draft Cam Newton was Khary Darlington... ...also known as the guy who took a settlement package and signed a non-disclosure agreement after Jerry Richardson used a racial slur on him.
  8. I'd be a lot more concerned about the universe collapsing on itself than the Huddle crashing.
  9. The fact they had gone this long and interviewed five other people without getting to him made me think he probably wasn't getting the job. Guess it's happening after all.
  10. The people he had the good interview with aren't in charge of the coaching hire anymore.
  11. Good way to judge how your interview is going if you're brave enough... Tell a joke and everybody laughs? You're good. Tell a joke and nobody laughs? You should probably just pack your stuff up and go. I would add that I agree with you about generic interview questions. Makes me think the person doing the interview has no idea what they're doing. And how are you going to judge whether I have a specific job skill by asking about a time I overcame a conflict?
  12. Possible. The Jaguars just let go of a former Seahawks co-worker in John Idzik. He could be a front office option as well. Idzik's been a general manager before, though from what I've read it sounds like he's better at the cap management side of things than the personnel part (and we've got people for that).
  13. Younger me probably would have done that. Older me appreciates the value of keeping your mouth shut
  14. You know I'd forgotten, but Julius Peppers works for the team too. He's not in personnel from what I remember, though.
  15. I think their pursuit of Fitterer kinda mirrors when they went after Rhule. (just a little bit longer and no meatballs involved)
  16. Worth noting that the story of them "resetting" the search after this weekend confirms what we heard before about them not being able to settle on the first group of candidates. Makes me wonder if they were zeroing in on Fitterer after they talked to him and the other second wave interviews were "just in case".
  17. I've been in a position where I could afford to be choosy and I've been in positions where I couldn't.
  18. I don't know if it's so much the type of job as it is the person interviewing. I've definitely sat in interviews where I felt like if I so much as cracked a smile, the interviewer would give me poor marks. And yeah, I call this trash talking. Trash talking isn't necessarily an adversarial thing.
  19. This was something like his third or fourth GM interview. He reportedly came in second to Joe Douglas for the Jets job. You could definitely say he had reason to be confident.
  20. And hey, want a crazy scenario? Try this one. Bieniemy is interviewing with the Eagles as well. He gets that job and the Eagles call the Texans offering to swap Carson Wentz for Deshaun Watson. That's not gonna happen, but hey...
  21. Invokes his no trade clause. Forcing them to trade him wouldn't be easy, but if they do agree to trade him he does have some power to influence where he goes.
