  1. No idea if they paid attention to that, but I can tell you since this was announced, fan reaction has...changed.
  2. I've seen it both ways so I'm honestly not sure. Seems kinda ass backwards not to give the incentive to the team that does the hiring honestly, but it's the NFL so... The one thing I do know is that the 49ers could have blocked Washington from interviewing Mayhew if the job didn't involvr roster control.
  3. On team building, I like the sound of this... I think the way I want to build the team is one, obviously quarterback, and two, both sides of the line. Really, settling the offensive line, maybe getting another corner, just creating competition at those spots is kind of the view right now."
  4. Gantt talked to Fitterer about the quarterback spot. Fitterer said he hasn't even had a chance to evaluate the existing roster yet. We're talking about advanced strategies while the team isn't even out of the starting gate yet.
  5. Here's some irony for ya... Martin Mayhew was one of the three sham Rooney Rule interviews that Jerry Richardson used to "comply" with the rule before hiring Marty. Now, per LaCanfora, one of the reasons listed for giving Mayhew the GM position instead of Marty is that the new rules give the Redskins a 3rd round pick for making him the GM rather than Marty.
  6. This part's interesting though... Wilson was that guy in Seattle, and having him on a cheap rookie deal helped the Seahawks build a team around a young quarterback that reached the Super Bowl his second season. That shaped Fitterer's thinking about the position as it pertains to roster construction, but again, he's too early in his new job to allow it to be dogma. "The problem is finding a good young rookie and having the chance to put him on the field and compete," Fitterer said. "There really are benefits of that, but we're not stuck on the rookie quarterback. We're going to look at every position and every avenue for acquisition."
  7. I'd say that's reading into it a bit. Voth isn't actually saying anything except that he thinks the picture is funny. He makes that clear in the response.
  8. No. Birds. Pretty sure I never took a bite on the knees from a dog either. Neighbor's mean dog took a flying leap and bit me on the ass once. (that image makes Lady Cowboy Fan laugh so hard her ribs hurt)
  9. Well we already knew who was really running the show anyway. Regardless of who has what title, the ultimate power belongs to Ron.
  10. ...and says pretty much nothing of any substance. Former QB knows finding an answer at the position is key If you're looking for anything revealing or earth-shattering here, don't hold your breath. It's a good read, but it also makes clear that Scott Fitterer has had some practice at using a lot of words to basically say nothing.
  11. Martin Mayhew is. Wonder what the hell happened
  12. Campbell might be talking to an old friend of ours...
  13. FYI: The Falcons are hiring Dave Ragone as their OC, so Frisman Jackson is staying. Barring any surprises, our staff should pretty much stay as it is now.
  14. There might be other options if they had an owner that had any sense. Of course, if they had an owner that had any sense, they probably wouldn't be where they are now.
  15. I have a hard time believing that. If this were true, surely the team would have offered Chuck a job by now.
  16. Word is they're talking to Saints DB coach Aaron Glenn for the DC job. Haven't seen any mention of who the OC might be but I'd expect them to have a Saints background, maybe Dolphins from his time there.
  17. Fitterer's comments today framed things in the long term, indicating that we'd try to be competitive right now but the wins are probably down the road. I suppose a big splashy move is still possible, but I'm not expecting it.
  18. They made it clear to every candidate they interviewed that the plan was to stick with Carson Wentz.
  19. Pretty much. I normally wouldn't be in favor of something like that, but given that they stupidly promised him to be part of the process and then didn't follow through with it, they need to do something.
  20. Sure. Just stop making new screen names and that problem solves itself.
  21. Spielman used to have a daily radio show on a sports station in Columbus. Heard him plenty while I was living in Ohio. Even got to meet him a couple of times. Rosenthal's comment about Spielman hiring Spielman is absolutely spot on.
  22. For the record, I've never been bitten on the kneecap. (not by a human, anyway)
  23. The presser ran for something like an hour and a half. Reports said at one point he spoke for 19 minutes straight without stopping.
  24. Might be the most colorful coach we've seen since Jerry Glanville. Reactions have run the gamut from "hell yeah, this is what the Lions need" to "OMG this clown will be fired in three years". The most balanced take I've seen is that his success or failure is going to depend heavily on who he picks as coordinators. In the meantime, maybe the Lions should invest in a WWE style music and video intro package to be played when he comes out to his press conferences.
