  1. Somebody mentioned this idea earlier in the thread. I pointed out that doing such a thing comes with the very real possibility of pissing off your teammates who would actually like to win games and aren't necessarily up for the idea of tanking an entire season just so you can get a better job somewhere else. And if you should happen to piss off the offensive line guys who are supposed to be protecting you from getting killed, well...that's a bit of a dangerous game.
  2. Related note: We might being danger of losing another assistant. Packers DC Mike Pettine isn't returning, and our secondary guy Jason Simmons was with the Packers last year. He's already gotten one DC interview. Might get another if they remember him well.
  3. Not a fan, especially not at his current contract level.
  4. I don't know how probable it is, but a reverse effect might be possible. The Lions staff headed by Dan Campbell is obviously going to have some Saints influence. If Campbell remembers Bridgewater positively, maybe there's a chance we can offload him there to backup whoever they get. Could conceivably be part of a deal to get Stafford. The Chargers could be another possibility. They hired former Saints QB Coach Joe Lombardi as their OC. He might think Bridgewater could be a capable backup to Herbert. Mind you, I'd say in either of those places or anywhere else he goes, he's going to need to renegotiate his contract and be willing to accept a backup role.
  5. I've said before the people I'm watching most closely are Jeff Morrow and Matt Allen. Morrow holds the same title as Pat Stewart, just with "executive" in front of it. Seems redundant, and I kinda doubt they're gonna let go of Stewart. Matt Allen? Well, he's Jerry Richardson's grandson. I don't know how good he is it is job, but unless he's really good it won't be terribly surprising if he gets replaced as Director of Pro Personnel.
  6. Probably worth remembering that Howie Roseman is a Marty Hurney style GM. Roseman didn't have a scouting background before getting that job either. He was primarily a cap guy. Eagle fans have been screaming for him to be replaced for years but Jeffrey Lurie doesn't seem inclined to blame him for anything. (we've been there)
  7. If they really believe he can fix Wentz, I suspect he could have answered every question "Potato" and probably still gotten hired. Their investment in Wentz is just that high. Can he actually do it? No idea.
  8. He got that job because he worked under Frank Reich. That makes them think he can fix Carson Wentz.
  9. Regarding former players, that's a tough thing to go by. Gantt and others acknowledged that there was no way Steve Smith was going to go quietly unless he left on his own terms. That's just not who he is. I know Beason didn't like being told he couldn't play that well anymore, but let's be real, he couldn't. And DeAngelo? Come on. We already knew what he was like. You could ask The Amazing Race for their take on him too.
  10. You don't have to. It wasn't a presser. It was a conference call. Specifically, the one prior to our first game against the Saints. On the call, Rhule mentioned Cooper talking about Bridgewater and suggesting he'd fit well into our offense. Igo posted about it after it happened. Of course, at that point in the season, feelings about Bridgewater were a lot more positive than they would be later on.
  11. Hell, Houston isn't even talking to people about what they're willing to offer. Plus they're currently building the coaching staff, and will likely build their roster, with the idea that Watson is their quarterback. If this changes at all, and it might not, it won't be anytime soon.
  12. Cooper had been with the Vikings when Bridgewater was the quarterback there.
  13. Which was all perfectly logical. Don't know why you've gotten flack.over that (of all things).
  14. Another indication of where this is going. Teams are already calling the Texans about offers, and the Texans aren't returning those calls. Tom Pelissero talks about it here...
  15. I remember there was word that Newton's "can't I get a little commitment" video didn't go over well with the Panthers.
  16. I feel like every time the team makes an unpopular move, I hear people predicting that "nobody is going to want to come here". I've yet to see any of that backlash actually happen.
  17. I'd imagine there's a lot we don't know. One thing we do know is that Newton found out was being let go at least a day before the official announcement was made. That's clear because he posted a video of himself on his social media saying "I'm unemployed'.
  18. Honestly, these aren't necessarily positions that require a replacement. I'd imagine what Carrier did will be taken over by one of Rhule's people (Sean Padden, maybe). The logistics guy would probably just be someone internal. I do find an interesting though that we're churning the front office staff. I wasn't sure if they were going to do that now or maybe wait until after the draft. Possible any higher level changes might not come till later.
  19. I was feeling a little masochistic so I went back and looked at that draft. Round 2 - Jimmy Clausen Round 3 - Brandon LaFell Round 3b - Armanti Edwards Round 4 - Eric Norwood (did he ever play a down?) Round 6 - He Who Shall Not Be Named Round 6b - David Gettis (the greatest receiver in Panther history) Round 6c - Jordan Pugh Round 6d - Tony Pike (because Clausen alone wasn't enough) Round 7 - R.J. Stanford Round 7b - Robert McClain
  20. Gotta throw the Greg Little disaster in there too. Tepper gave some pretty clear indications last offseason that he didn't think Marty was doing a good job on the pro side. That's where all the talk about hiring an assistant GM with a pro personnel background came from. That he still seemed to think Marty could be valuable as a drafter worried me, but I guess ultimately he just decided to move on completely.
  21. I had always figured it was primarily Joe Brady who lobbied for Teddy. Was surprised when you told us who was really responsible. It makes perfect sense though. We read well before things really got started that Marty believed the team could win now rather than having to rebuild.
  22. I recognize the name Ray Ratto. I think he used to cover the 49ers but might have gotten fired. Not sure...
