  1. Breer said the Panthers are "solidly" in the mix, going as far as to predict that Stafford would probably end up either here or in Washington. He also firmly believes the Lions will get a first rounder in return. Putting those two things together, if we get him we're likely trading the number eight pick, maybe a little more.
  2. That's not great leverage though. We've got his old QB coach, good players at the skill positions, a very popular young OC and we're believed to be trending in the right direction. I don't really see Stafford having a problem with being traded here.
  3. Oh, and we've gone this whole discussion without mentioning Sean Ryan. There's that too, for whatever it's worth.
  4. Yep. And in this case, of the teams that are said to be in on the discussion, we have the highest pick (that's not true with Watson). I've been skeptical of us trading for Stafford, and I kinda still am. But the more I read, the more I start to think it's a real possibility.
  5. Not sure if that gets the deal done. Thing about trading the number eight is that the Lions already have number seven. Packaging those two picks would give them a lot of ammo to trade up and get one of the top quarterbacks in this year's class. Or hell, they could just say "We've got two top ten picks. Let's use them."
  6. Decided to look up what the Lions team needs are just in case a player is included. Among the needs I've seen mentioned from a couple of different sources: linebacker, receiver, pass rusher and cornerback.
  7. Breer has mentioned Washington and Carolina as two teams he believes could be favorites to land Stafford more than once. Funny to think of us in trade competition with a team that has Marty Hurney in a high position. Lord knows Marty might throw everything and the kitchen sink into an offer. But worth noting that Marty's not in charge. Rivera is, with Martin Mayhew as second in command.
  8. I think if it happens it includes #8, Bridgewater and probably a little more. Mind you, nothing along the lines of what we've been discussing for a Watson trade.
  9. And the trade terms could be agreed upon within the next few days. Word from a couple of different sources is that the Lions want to get this done ASAP.
  10. Disagree but unless he actually decided to fight over his destination, it doesn't matter. There's been zero indication he's planning to do that.
  11. Breer's mid Senior Bowl Periscope... Besides the things already mentioned, at about 9:30 in someone asks "Stafford goes where?" Breer thinks for a second and answers "Washington or Carolina maybe". Mentioned earlier he's also heard Washington would be very interested in Sam Darnold if the Jets decided to go in another direction from him.
  12. Lions might be one of the few teams you could actually see taking Bridgewater in a trade.
  13. Breer addressed that, saying he thinks Stafford might want to go to a team in the west like San Francisco or Los Angeles, but doesn't think those teams are in position to make the best offer and Stafford doesn't really have leverage like a no trade clause or any such thing.
  14. A little arithmetic... Original reports had "a third of the league" contacting the Lions about Stafford. That's probably eleven teams. Albert Breer's latest word includes seven teams. Specifically, Washington, the Panthers, Patriots, Colts, Bears, 49ers and Rams. He has reservations about the last two, though. If he's right, it's a five team race, and one of those five teams is a division rival so that's hard to imagine. In a radio interview earlier in the day, he highlighted Washington and Carolina as strong possibilities.
  15. A couple of postgame quotes from Rhule...
  16. I've said I don't think we end up with him, but everything I'm reading indicates we should take the idea seriously.
  17. One week (or less) to go is "late stage" to me. Throw in Dan Campbell's comment about the talks "heating up".
  18. Sewell and Moton sounds like a phenomenal idea. Might disagree on Jones...
  19. Just reviewed some stuff from Albert Breer. Breer puts us "solidly in" the discussion, though he notes we're one of seven teams talking to the Lions right now. Said Lions brass was in Mobile this week and a lot of talk went on down there. One thing that caught my attention: he takes the idea of Stafford going to the Panthers more seriously than he does him going to the Rams or the 49ers. That made me
  20. Teddy being part of the deal seems like a legit possibility given that Dan Campbell would be pretty familiar with him. Probably not as a starter though.
  21. His skill set is honestly ideal for what we run. I don't really think he's a bridge either. Most analysts think he's got at least four or five years left in him.
  22. I would say this... The fact that we're reported to be in the discussion at what would now be a late stage in things given the news that we've heard would tell me it wasn't just a preliminary inquiry. The interest sure sounds genuine.
  23. I feel like the people that came out of this with the most notice would be Michael Carter, Dez Fitzpatrick and Sam Ehlinger.
  24. This comes on the heels of the report where Dan Campbell said the talks were "heating up" and it's expected a deal's gonna get done this week. I still don't think he ends up here but you never know.
