  1. It was already said that even if the Texans did agree to let him go (and there's no guarantee they will) it was going to take the largest draft deal in history. I'm not up for being on the other end of that.
  2. He'd likely have had to agree to renegotiate. I like us being aggressive, but I'm also glad we weren't aggressive enough to try and match what the Rams offered.
  3. Heck we didn't even interview him, and we interviewed everybody.
  4. Based on everything I've read, I don't doubt that the Panthers offered the #8 pick plus more. Not necessarily multiple firsts, but #8, additional picks and maybe a player. Very possible that they included Bridgewater as part of the deal. Dan Campbell would know Bridgewater from his time with the Saints when he came in and won five games as a backup. Would have been a good selling point for taking him as a backup there too.
  5. Familiar to me in this case because that's the phrase I've seen used to describe how Brad Holmes felt about Goff when he was with the Rams.
  6. The Lions new GM is the guy who was "banging the table' for the Rams to do whatever it took to draft Goff in the first place. He might see Goff as more valuable than we do.
  7. Gotta remember the GM in Detroit is the guy who pushed the Rams to do whatever it took to get Goff back in 2016. Didn't see the Lions article mentioning that even while discussing Holmes, but then USA today has some really crappy team writers.
  8. Of the teams they were talking to, we had the highest first round pick. We probably offered more than just that, though I doubt it was multiple first rounders. Maybe an additional lower round pick or a player (or both). Teddy being part of the deal isn't hard to imagine at all. Dan Campbell was on the Saints staff when he came in as a backup and won five games while Brees was injured. Hell, I'd still call up the Lions and offer them Bridgewater for something.
  9. Of the seven teams that were listed earlier as still pursuing Stafford, the only one that had a top 10 pick was us. Yeah, we offered #8.
  10. I'm not real worried about the lions taking a quarterback at 7. Yeah, it's possible, but I'm not buying it. Seeing them trade out of the spot to somebody who does need a quarterback seems like a lot larger possibility.
  11. The Twitter page this story came from is full of bullsh-t. But with that said, after what's happened so far this offseason, I could definitely see the Panthers giving Trubisky a try.
  12. Possible but I doubt it, especially with King saying we were "competing" for him. Honestly, if not for the Goff thing, we may well have gotten it done.
  13. The Rams are definitely built to win now. Whether they're built to be successful in the long term is a separate question.
  14. It's not an absolute that we go into another year with Bridgewater. Just we might not get a franchise guy. It's also possible we get another bridge guy / reclamation project like Trubisky.
  15. Getting some details filled in now.... Additionally, Schefter confirms that all seven of the teams who were in heavy talks with Detroit offered at least a first round pick, and more. So yeah, it looks like we were ready to offer #8, plus...
  16. There are a lot of people who question whether Newton is willing to be a backup. I seriously question whether anybody's offering him a starting job though.
  17. Believe it or not, Adam Schefter says that's still possible. What worries me more though is we thought that somebody else who wants a quarterback badly trades up with them. A couple of different sources of pointed out that the Lions would be in a really good spot to trade down now.
  18. Part of me wonders if Sean Payton would do it just to piss the Panthers off. I don't honestly believe he's that petty, but still...
  19. It's conceivable this one deal may have torpedoed both of them.
  20. That probably depends on two things, the first being how patient David Tepper is willing to be. But the second, and more significant factor, what does Matt Rhule really think about Mac Jones?
  21. Do we really have the capital to do that though? I wasn't a real big believer in the possibility of getting Watson anyway, but after today I just can't see it. Trubisky? I suppose it's possible if we're interested. I'm starting to think if Rhule really does believe in Mac Jones (and there's evidence to that effect) he's the guy. Maybe not at #8 but who knows?
