  1. In one of Scott Fowler's latest columns, he said he was told by a former Panthers staffer that anyone who disagrees with Tepper ultimately gets removed. Don't know the background or the veracity of that, but you absolutely can't operate that way...especially not if you're bad at what you do.
  2. I wouldn't really look at it that way at all. There would be some obvious changes though. We've got a few potentially duplicate titles where one guy could be let go. And of course, a new GM is going to want their own people. That's where a non-interference guarantee from the owner comes into play.
  3. That's in a topic of discussion for a long time, with the obvious target being Kevin Colbert. If we got Colbert, then I'd guess our next GM would be former Steelers Director of Pro Personnel / current Eagles personnel guy Brandon Hunt. Hunt was the guy that Colbert was grooming to be his successor, but the Steelers chose Omar Khan instead. It's been suggested that was who Mike Tomlin wanted. Hunt left the Steelers for the Eagles shortly thereafter. I know some will associate getting Colbert with trading for Tomlin, but word it is those two don't exactly have the greatest relationship. An internal power struggle between them is reported to have been one of the reasons why Colbert was only willing to sign single year extensions near the end of his time as Steelers GM.
  4. I actually like the idea of having veteran competition for him next season, but I also agree that it might be unlikely. Some have even suggested a draft pick like Michael Penix.
  5. That's the idea. You'd have to resolve the trust issues stemming from what happened with Reich, though. That's where I have a hard time seeing it.
  6. One other minor note... Ray Agnew and Panthers VP Adrian Wilson are both NC State grads, though from about a decade apart. Near as I can tell from a cursory look, it doesn't appear they ever crossed paths in the pros. A pairing of Agnew as GM and Wilson as Assistant GM could certainly be interesting
  7. Agnew would definitely be closely tied to Johnson. And I think one of the conditions that will be needed for the next higher is what Jed York did in San Francisco, i.e. longer guaranteed contracts and promises of non-interference from the owner. With everything that's happened, it's kind of hard to imagine Tepper getting a good candidate without those things.
  8. That's been my take, despite certain people's suggestion that I'm just looking for a way to keep Scott Fitterer around Casillas theory might work if the new GM and head coach are promised higher authority and independence, something which I honestly think needs to be promised regardless of what happens to Fitterer.
  9. I'd love Hortiz. My favorite candidates are Hortiz, Cowboys personnel chief Will McClay and Eagles / former Steelers personnel guy Brandon Hunt. The idea of Ray Agnew is growing on me but that scenario might depend on getting Ben Johnson.
  10. Returning to the actual topic, a quick summary... Amid speculation that, having promoted John Lynch to "President of Football Operations", the 49ers could easily give Adam Peters the GM title where he'd continue to be in charge of personnel. Peters was declining interview opportunities with other teams last year, so his departing San Francisco seems highly unlikely. Lions Assistant GM Ray Agnew has an obvious connection to Ben Johnson, but also is connected to current Panthers DC Ejiro Evero and OC Thomas Brown. A lot of people like the idea of a Johnson / Evero pairing. This could potentially make that easier. Other potential candidates include Bears Assistant GM Ian Cunningham (who interviewed for the Assistant GM job here before Dan Morgan was hired) and Ravens Director of Player Personnel, Joe Hortiz (who I'd love to get).
  11. That's Johnson / Agnew, a combination which becomes more intriguing with the notation that Agnew has connections with Ejiro Evero and Thomas Brown. Hortiz / McDonald would be another one, but that would require Tepper hiring a defensive coach, something not many people see happening.
  12. After two games? At the time, there wasn't any indication of such a thing. It didn't manifest till later. And by that time, Casillas had moved on to a different forum (which is where the current discussions are happening).
  13. "Word play", eh? Funny thing... Guess I called it
  14. Yeeeeah...there's not actually anything in that post (dated back in September) that supports your argument. Not surprising, though... And the conversation with Casillas on this topic didn't happen on the Huddle.
  15. I'll look for it. He's a name I've seen mentioned here a lot but never recall him actually being contacted.
  16. The idea was never that Fitterer would stay as a GM co-GM. It was that he'd take an alternate position away from the personnel duties. The fact that you couldn't comprehend that is where the issues started. Apparently, Fitterer's name makes you emotional
  17. Borgonzi interviewed? I don't remember seeing that. I know Tilis did but I thought it was only once.
  18. Or you're a guy who takes credit for stuff other people say, while also reframing arguments of those you debate so that they appear to say what they actually didn't, which I've seen some evidence of. Of course, the next part of your MO is to accuse people of things what you actually do, which I'm guessing probably comes next.
  19. As mentioned, there's way more to the GM job than just personnel and scouting. What Casillas suggested could happen would do two things... 1) Remove Fitterer from all personnel decisions 2) Free up a new GM to concentrate on personnel without having to worry about the other stuff That doesn't necessarily sound like a bad idea to me, but you still have to deal with Fitterer being involved in the chicanery that helped get Frank Reich fired. That, to me, is the tricky part.
  20. Wasn't there previously a sticky post where the mods said they were going to crack down on people sh-tting up threads rather than sticking to the actual topic? Has that emphasis gone by the wayside now?
  21. The only thing I've ever truly seen you argue for is the idea that you know things. Unfortunately, that argument falls apart when you actually talk about them Now, do you want to actually look at any of the candidates mentioned here or just continue your usual MO of useless b-tching?
  22. As mentioned, Casillas has two sources, which is two more than you do He's known other things before they happened, so I trust his information.
  23. What's funny is there's a real "silver lining" type opportunity available here. If he wanted to be smart about it, Tepper could take this as a chance to come out and say "Look, this made me realize just how bad I've handled things and I now understand that I need to step away from the football operations and let the qualified people handle it." I don't necessarily have any indication that will happen, but the opportunity is there.
