Coaching Staff: Final Pieces (as of 2-23-23)
Mr. Scot replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Still that one empty spot -
...is something that's been in short supply on our coaching staff over the past few seasons. Truth be told, probably also in certain parts of our roster. What feels abundantly clear now though is that it's going to be a top priority for new head coach Frank Reich and his staff. Just look at some of their quotes: ______________________________________________ "The smartest players are the best players." - Ejiro Evero "Dumb players cost you games." - Thomas Brown "You've got to be a smart player and have the instincts to make great plays in situational football moments." - Frank Reich ______________________________________________ When's the last time you remember hearing a Panthers coach talk about players needing to know situational football? If that's not convincing enough, go back and listen to this week's press conferences. Everybody who's stepped to the podium from the head coach on down came off as not just smart, but also skilled as a communicator. It's... different I'm not gonna sit here and guarantee that we're on a quick path to the Super Bowl or anything like that, but I will say this: I'm less worried about us getting outcoached than I probably have been in the last ten years or so. Should be a fun season

We got one, and a good one (Shawn Jefferson). As far as the TE coach, Reich said they were probably about 24-48 hours away from announcing that. That statement was made about 24-48 hours ago -
One other other thing from Staley... More than once, Staley mentioned how important it was to have a good RB stable to help minimize the wear and tear on each of the individual runningbacks. Sure would have been nice if one or both of our previous head coaches had understood that principle

Some info on Lamar Jackson's negotiations... Watson's fully guaranteed contract was for 230 million. Lamar Jackson wants more than that, again all guaranteed. To quote another guy named Jackson...

Won't be as much fun to watch as Rex Ryan would have been, but hey... One Ryan brother might have been enough for Payton
-
Robbie / Robby / Chosen / Whatever probably wouldn't work for this staff.

Defining terms, a talent is something you have innately while a skill is something you build. I look at bullsh-t recognition as a skill, not a talent. And It's kinda hard to be skilled at something when you're the newest kid on the block.

One other note: Staley's exchange with David Newton was hilarious

Lady Cowboy Fan was kinda put off by Staley's "f@&k this, f@&k that, f@&k the other (oh, and f@&k you too)" demeanor on Hard Knocks. I wonder if she'd feel differently after watching this.

My first time hearing a professional football coach mention sack races Also liked his response to Vashti asking about his energy, saying "We're not between the lines"
-
From what I've seen of him, you definitely get the impression that's going to involve some "tough love"

Man, everybody we've heard from so far has been really good.

We went from Marty having final say to Matt Rhule having final say.
