Not sure I see it. McDaniels certainly believes he's head coaching material. The problem is...he's not. Johnson? Don't know. Some guys just really don't wanna be in charge. Maybe that's him.
-
It honestly could just be good self-awareness. It was reported elsewhere that he and his wife say down and discussed their situation and agreed that they love where they are now. One thing for sure: If he ever becomes a free agent, he'll have half the teams in the league lining up to pay him.

That's apparently what Canales said about Tampa's line, that it took them until about midseason to really catch on
-
Whether or not he wants to be a head coach, if this is true he definitely didn't want it to be in Washington.
-
Got that impression too... My biggest deal is that I want him to be smart. I don't necessarily care what his particular emphasis might be as long as he knows what he's doing.
-
It sounds like he might not really want to be a head coach that badly. There's been some conflicting reports. General belief is that Johnson still feels like he's not ready for a head coaching job yet. Another source though said that he didn't like that Commanders executives were "basketball guys" who he believed didn't really know football. Whatever the story, the general perception is that he kind of screwed Washington over making his decision while they were in flight to come see him. And as it turns out, the five members of the Commanders brass that were on the plane at the time actually learned that he had turned them down via Twitter before they ever got his text. Ouch

Everything I've read makes me think we're headed toward being more of a passing team.
-
Will tell you what I've read... Canales' offensive schemes seem to heavily use zone blocking. There was word in both Seattle and Tampa that their lines werrn't suited for what they were running there (Canales was not the OC in Seattle) but Canales believed they would "catch on" over time, and ultimately felt they did. If I were guessing, I'd expect a similar approach here. (hopefully with better results than last season)

That's the kind of change you likely won't see till after the draft of it happens. -
Rumor of Burns traded to Baltimore (probably baseless rumor)

Also, not that it likely matters to anybody but people like me and @magnus but the Panthers staff page now lists everybody down to the area scouts. https://www.panthers.com/team/football-staff Used to be you could only see info on those folks if you downloaded the media guide. -
Not talking about ten people. We're talking about one. Specifically, one who's been an NFL head coach. Rivera's biggest regret about his early coaching years was that he didn't have anyone around him with that experience. Right now, Canales technically has Jim Caldwell, but he doesn't know Caldwell from Adam. Carroll Is someone he knows well, and that can go a long way.

Up to you. Me? I care way more about what helps us win games than I do about my personal feelings toward a guy I don't know. Not like he's been molesting massage therapists in his spare time or some such.
-
Ditto, and I think that's something Canales would like to shoot for as well
-
Hate to tell ya but our new head coach sees him as a pretty big influence in his career.
-
Complicated I'm sure... Inherent In the move is that GM John Schneider now has full power with the team. In the past, Carroll always had final say.
-
He wouldn't be "messaging" anybody here. Basically just helping Canales get accustomed to his new role. Whether or not he'd actually accept such a role? No idea. Honestly though, Seattle probably should just let him go anyway. It's kind of silly the position they're putting him in.
-
I've heard worse ideas I'm sure all the players would be fine with this, right?
-
Speaking of disgruntled coaches, word has been that Pete Carroll wants out of Seattle but the same team that forced him out of his head coaching role is holding him to his contract as a consultant. Carroll is said to think an awful lot of Dave Canales (long history) and would certainly make a great mentor to him as a long time NFL head coach. Somebody should start a protest or something outside the Seahawk offices so they'll set him free. That or maybe a letter writing campaign or an online petition or a damn plane with a banner behind it. That'd convince 'em, right? 🫥
