Could a trade be on the horizon...(Vegas shift at number 2)
Mr. Scot replied to Lurk21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Great post. I agree with a lot of this. I've said before that Young has the ideal traits I prefer in a quarterback (intelligence, processing speed, accuracy) but his size can't be ignored. Nor can the durability concerns that come with it. I absolutely hope if he's the pick that it's the right choice, but I worry about the possibility of predictions like this coming true. -
I'm always happy to hear this kind of thing, but to be real, all of that talk is going to evaporate the first time he takes an NFL hit and doesn't immediately get up.

I didn't get the sense from this that it was a Tepper pick. Here's what caught my eye though... ...said one former team executive with knowledge of the team's plans. Would imagine that's gotta be Pat Stewart. We parted ways with Stewart in February. He rejoined the Patriots in March. I'd question how much of the draft process he actually knows.

Here's the full text on the Panthers pick... After months of scouting and interviews, the Panthers appear to be set on Young. He is a poised competitor with awesome accuracy on the move and an ability to find passing windows despite a smaller 5-foot-10, 204-pound frame. Young is NFL-ready thanks to his fast-processing ability and what he offers as a creator when plays break down. Multiple sources told me that once the Panthers' coaching staff dove back into the film on Young, it was convinced he should be the No. 1 pick. "There's a lot of like for C.J. Stroud there, especially in the coaching ranks, but Bryce won the entire organization over," said one former team executive with knowledge of the team's plans.

Hell, he could turn out to be the best. Pre-draft evaluations are far from perfect. -

They're concerned. Reich has straight up admitted that multiple times. They wouldn't be talking about all the things they can do to "fix" the issue of they weren't concerned. -

Fans think that way. Guys whose jobs depend on being right, not so much. -
Same school, oddly enough...

I wouldn't go that far.

Steve Smith interview with Bryce Young
Mr. Scot replied to backINblack28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Understood, but the counterpoint is that concern doesn't magically vanish if he's the pick. It'll be there for his entire career, however long (or short) that is. That's a major concern. -
I did. It's hilarious

Meltdowns are one extreme. Acting like it means nothing is another. Durability concerns are a valid issue. Even the Panthers acknowledge that. -

Because a year from now, he still will be. In fact, it'll be true however long his career lasts. And as long as it's true, people will be concerned about him getting taken out. -

I'm quoting this just to assure myself that someone actually said it -
I don't. Give him credit. He had a fantastic football mind and was an extremely successful coach. But He was also one of those guys who talked to and treated his players like absolute sh-t, berating guys down to the point that they didn't think they were even capable of playing football unless they played for him. Not a fan of that. Respect the hell out of his coaching skills but I see him as a lousy person.

Does that mean the checkered flag is coming in one lap?
