Hurney still isn't official yet, but Baalke is... From here on out, Urban Meyer will be referred to as "Larry".

Haskins update...

I definitely don't see us as just a quarterback and a couple of good players away. We spent years complaining because despite the fact we had Cam Newton, he didn't have a good enough team around him. I'm not a fan of seeing us go back into that position. (and I don't really think Watson would be either)

I'd have to say using it to pick our own franchise quarterback without having to give away a bunch of other stuff that we can use to rebuild the team would be superior. Granted, it's also a huge risk.

Despite my "not a big fan" status, even I think Stafford is better than Bridgewater.

That's kind of a hard sell to fans that spent years cheering for Thomas Davis.

A little more from David Newton... So apparently, we have two people to thank for Scott Fitterer getting an interview. One of them is Jim Nagy who made a call to someone in the Panthers front office to suggest it. The other is, surprisingly, the guy he called. Pat Stewart. Why is that surprising? Because Stewart was a candidate for the job himself. In suggesting another interview, Stewart was potentially doing damage to his own chances. But he did it anyway... The Panthers were double-digit interviews into their general manager search when Nagy reached out to good friend Patrick Stewart, Carolina’s director of player personnel, and suggested Fitterer. A virtual interview was conducted two Sundays ago, followed by an in-person interview three days later. Fitterer was hired the next day. “I told Pat, ‘Fit’s a great guy. I’m sure you don’t know him well, but he’ll be a great fit,’" Nagy said. “That’s a great group moving forward on the football side.’’ Scott Fitterer has the risk taking mentality needed to improve the Panthers

Well, there's a point in it's favor... -
I'm not that big a fan of Stafford, but it is fair to note he wouldn't cost as much to get. He still might cost too much though. Depends on what the Lions want.
-
It's true, but I have to say I really hope that in future drafts, we're not higher than them in the draft order.

Since all indications are we're going to be continuing to run Joe Brady's WCO based system, a big back wouldn't be a bad thing to have. Some of the more effective West Coast attacks have had one speedy back who's a good receiver (like McCaffrey) and one bruiser for short yardage / goal line situations.

Starting with an item that requires me to say, "no really, not kidding"... Also... Looks like Campbell might have an intriguing choice for his OC too... Someone pointed out that Urban has previously worked with Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson. Made them wonder if it signals anything about Matt Stafford. I'd say no, but hey...
-
That could also be because that's been kind of a weak spot for them for a few years.

Is a startup mentality more likely to pay huge money to a veteran quarterback or feature a young draftee on a rookie deal?

Long as we're talking about former coach connections, there's a guy who's connected both to our assistant OL coach and our new GM, specifically Cedric Ogbuehi. He was with the Jaguars two seasons ago, the Seahawks last season. Yeah I know, not that exciting. Sparano has also been coaching our old friend Andrew Norwell for the last few years, for what that's worth.

Kinda surprised nobody mentioned that RG3 has been cut by the Ravens. No, I don't think we should sign him.
-
I was thinking more along these lines. "Start Up" mentality: They want to make the grown men on the other team cry.
-
Got Chris Carson out of it, but using that first round pick on Malik McDowell...yikes! This is why I try to be careful about looking at drafts though. The guys in the room are part of the process, but they're not the ones making the final choices. how much blame they deserve for mistakes, and also how much credit they deserve for successes, is something you have to temper.

I've begun to feel like at some point down the road, Dan Morgan is going to be part of the Panthers front office. I'm just not sure when. And yeah Scot McCloughan is a name I ran across a few times while reading up on Fitterer. Heaven knows he's talented, but how willing are you to put yourself in a position of depending on him?
