  1. I know the team is gung-ho to get a quarterback this year, but I'm increasingly less convinced it's going to be possible to get a true quarterback of the future. it feels like if we do acquire one, it's gonna be somebody around the quality of Mac Jones.
  2. From what I've been reading, it sounds like we had pretty strong interest in Stafford. I'm not at all sure where we go from here.
  3. Quick note on Cam Newton, by the way... On a recent podcast, Albert Breer was asked about where Newton might end up this season. He threw out one obvious option (Washington) but also mentioned the Saints as a possibility where he'd back up Jameis Winston. Newton being a Saint could possibly...provoke some discussion on here.
  4. Person pointed out that even if it does, they're in a very good position to trade back if someone else wanted to move into that spot and take a quarterback.
  5. That includes Cam Newton, of course. Picking a quarterback high and sticking with him doesn't exactly seem to be a common practice right now.
  6. New board software has been a little weird for a lot of people.
  7. I don't doubt that we offered first round pick. But something along that level? Yikes!
  8. It's already been reported that they're willing to let him sit out the season, fine him and go after his signing bonus.
  9. Not sure who you meant to quote there but I'm not the one who said that.
  10. From what I've been reading, unwillingness to take on Goff's contract was what was holding up the deal. When the Rams offered enough that the Lions relented, that's when it happened.
  11. I seriously doubt that matters to the Texans. Word out of Houston was that they would have already been looking for an "unprecedented" deal if they relented. This news isn't going to change that. More likely it reinforces it.
  12. Mike Sando pointed out that while the Rams are giving up a third rounder as part of the deal, they'll be getting two compensatory thirds because of the Lions hiring Brad Holmes.
  13. Multiple sources saying what helped seal the deal is that the Lions were willing to help the Rams get Jared Goff's contract off their books. That allowed the Rams to offer more than other teams were willing to do.
  14. A lot of people aren't convinced that the Texans can be talked into trading Watson at all (I'm dubious myself). But after seeing what the Lions got for Stafford today, if they do, the price is gonna be obscene.
  15. I wouldn't have offered that much. But in this case, the Rams are also helping out a guy that used to work for them.
  16. That's what I was looking at yesterday. Won't surprise me if somebody from one of the other teams that was looking to acquire Stafford grumbles to the league about the quid pro quo here. Don't know that anything would come of it but could definitely see the complaint being made.
  17. If Stafford went for a package like this, the Texans will be in position to demand a deal that involves numerous first round picks, your firstborn and your immortal soul. And that's if they even agree to trade him (which I'm not convinced they will). There's no way I can see us making that deal now.
  18. Rams guy who drafted Goff becomes GM of the Lions... Lions agree to part ways with Matthew Stafford... Honeymoon is over between the Rams and Goff... Lions GM calls his old team... Rams get a QB better equipped to run their system... Lions get a former number one overall pick plus a ridiculous compensation package... Wow
  19. The Rams must really really hate first round picks.
  20. Breer didn't think they could make the cap work. Actually a lot of people think that. This is the trade I was expecting yesterday when I read the Rams were interested. Their having the Lions scouting director who drafted Goff made it make sense.
  21. Not happening. Panthers tried but the Rams are apparently offering Goff plus a couple of first rounders. Crazy stuff...
  22. Breer mentioned that he has a couple of teams he'd prefer but doesn't think it's likely he goes to either of them. That doesn't make me think he's got a lot of control of the process. Throw in that we're one of seven teams said to be solidly in the discussion, and have been considered a possible favorite. I don't know that he ends up here (gun to my head, I'd probably still say no) but I've read enough to believe it's very possible.
  23. Sounds like we might not have to wait too long to find out...
