  1. Yes, they absolutely were. And the fact that they were in a scheme that suited them was part of it. There was no reason whatsoever to retool or change things up front...but we did.
  2. Why should they have, though? One, we had a very good offensive line. What sense would it make to abandon them? It would make way more sense to change the scheme. Second, Reich came in saying his plan was to fit the scheme to the personnel. When coaches are saying that, why would you expect to have to swap personnel?
  3. We know he's got a rep around the league (apparently deserved) and on top of that, we're not in a good situation to attract the best candidates next year. That alone might be a reason to pause on a huge reset. OF course, that may not matter.
  4. Still of the opinion that it's too soon on either front, but there's always a difference between what should happen and what could. Hell, Adrian Wilson hasn't even been here long enough to have an impact yet. Who knows if a new GM keeps him (or Morgan for that matter).
  5. Not a fan of hoping a guy who doesn't know what he's doing just somehow gets lucky. He's got an easy connection with loads of experience as a winner in Kevin Colbert. Don't know why he wouldn't take advantage of that.
  6. Tepper starting from scratch is a nightmare scenario for me unless he brings in someone to help him out.
  7. Yeah, this is gonna get interesting...
  8. Yeah If we'd have stuck with a power run scheme, he's probably still would be.
  9. You have somebody on both sides of you on the interior line. They can't just take a wide path and run around you. It tends to be a better spot for guys like Ickey who have trouble with speed rushers.
  10. Now confirmed that Burrow is out for the year...
  11. I went back to check who has offensive line coaches were with the Colts. Initially it was a guy that came from the Patriots who didn't last long (he hasn't lasted long anywhere honestly). For four of the five years though, the OL coach was Chris Strausser, a guy who at this moment is coaching the offensive line of the Texans.
  12. If Harbaugh gets fired, he's the next head coach of the Bears.
  13. Sounds like things might be about to get interesting...
  14. And what could have been... With an interesting comment from a respondent... Wonder if JJ has a future here beyond his playing days
  15. More of John digging into personnel and scheme issues with regard to talent...
  16. I think that started happening a little later, but at least in the first season and maybe first season and a half I just didn't see a whole lot of late game effectiveness. But hell, even in the super season of 2015 the MO was to build a big lead in the first half and pray like crazy we could protect it in the second. I don't think that was on Newton though. That was due to Rivera being terrible at adjustments.
  17. Possible "uh oh" moment incoming...
  18. At least for his first couple of seasons, Newton had a habit of coming out on fire in the first half and then disappearing in the second. But no it's not the defense losing games, though Ellis did rightly point out that our defense is kind of weak in the takeaway department.
  19. Dalton isn't starter material anymore, and definitely not a long-term starter. We need to look for somebody that's got that kind of potential, even if it's via the draft rather than free agency.
