I'm wondering if one of the folks who's better at cap stuff than I am has an idea about where this puts us. I know we can't say exactly because the NFL still hasn't made a firm ruling on the cap itself, and that affects the franchise values.

Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”
Mr. Scot replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
Even those who advocate drafting Lance generally agree that he's gonna need a lot of reps to be an NFL quarterback. -
Our buddy Ellis seems to like this idea...

Could be worse. You could be on here arguing that we should start a third stringer at quarterback even after he looked awful in his last game.

Was the Gettleman's 2017 draft class the best in Panthers history?

Sorry. Don't care how good the player is. A draft that only nets you one player is a sh-tty draft. -
-
How many teams will have enough cap to offer him what he wants though? Free agency is gonna be reeeeeally complicated this year.

Part of being good at your job is knowing when to tell the person above you they're full of sh-t. Marty never gave any indication that he was smart enough to do that.

Related: Lance has apparently advised teams that he won't be running at his pro day. -
How about this guy?

It was a damn good draft. If you're looking for the best draft the Panthers have had, it's probably between this one and Seifert's last draft in 2001. -
Like I said, it explains a lot. Gantt said many times that as far as Richardson was concerned, Hurney was GM for life if he wanted to be. He would never have been fired if he hadn't basically volunteered to fall on the sword. The fact that he was willing to work without a contract lent to that idea as well.

Not liking the sound of this, but unfortunately he's probably right.

Two more franchise tags announced... The Jags are franchising OT Cam Robinson and the Bucs are tagging WR Chris Godwin.
-
And with our record being exactly 500 over the tenure of his ownership, it could also be said that he got exactly what he earned.
-
Definitely. Of course, having an owner who judged the quality of the draft primarily by the first round probably made it easier to be a mediocre GM.

Mentioned elsewhere, but I remember when that scandal broke and he announced that it would be handled by "internal investigation". I think he genuinely believed the "good old boy" network of the NFL would cover for him. Yeah...Not in this day and age. His face when he found out they wouldn't probably looked a lot like those pictures.

All about the first round pick...

I've seen some speculation that the Patriots will go heavy after Samuel.

On the flipside... While I would absolutely love to have him here, gotta figure he will be ex...pen...sive
