Tre Boston says Panthers may be adding another S

My guess is Terrell Edmunds -
It would be the Saints offensive line and their defense that would have been the biggest pull.

Three top 10 QB's refused to play for Matt Rhule.

Ok and this IS Rhule's third season that hasn't even started yet. Two guys right off the top of my head that are good examples of 3rd year turn around: Pete Carroll with the Seahawks: 7-9, 7-9, before an 11-5 season Zac Taylor with the Bengals: 2-14, 4-11, before a 10-7 season and Super Bowl appearance If Rhule stays stagnant or even regresses in year 3? Ok, fire him. -
Yes, but it is good to know we had limitations. Guaranteeing that much money 4 years out? He could tear his knee up in Week 1 and never play again and we would be paying him GUARANTEED money 3 years later. Think of how damaging that would be.

I think the hold up was waiting on Watson. Now that we are out of that race, the money can go elsewhere.

That's just not true. But it is clear that you, and many fans in general, don't have the patience to see beyond 2 years. -

I don't think he was brought in as a guaranteed starter. He replaces Carter, but that isn't saying much. -
Well Rhule seems to be a guy that hates losing more than he likes winning. But he is also patient. So, what we are seeing is a guy acclimating to NFL life and he is struggling to find his footing. If he truly wants to succeed at the highest level, he will continue to fight and make adjustments. History has shown that Rhule is resilient in that way. Now we just have to see if he is up to the challenge of his notorious "third year turn-around" in the NFL. We have a good roster, we have made coaching changes. Things aren't over until they are over. For the record, I'm on the fence with Rhule. I was an avid supporter when he got hired, but have lost faith continuously since then (for a variety of reasons aside from losing). But... I also understand the reality of his history. He has done this before.

The entire offense was a poo-show. No argument here. But we aren't giving up on the talented players, that's what this is showing. This gives him a second chance while also freeing up space to bring in more help. It's like being the only guy at your job that does the work, but not getting anyone to step in and help. Eventually you snap and stop trying so hard. But if you are a good manager, you know that these workers are valuable and to maximize their output, you need to reward them for their efforts while also making attempts to alleviate their stress going forward. It's just a good business model. If he fails then? Cut bait. But you should try to do the right thing for the people that can and have helped you get you to where you are. -
If we give the Eagles a future 2nd for Minshew, you will have made your point. But if we get him for a fair price? I'd say the team is doing their job by trying to be as competitive as possible without mortgaging the future.

Well sometimes people need to be humbled. Hopefully this situation hurt and reality sinks in for Rhule and Tepper. -

I believe Robby isn't the issue entirely. Even Steve Smith had frustrations and gave up on plays during the 2010 season with Clausen. It's a business decision sometimes, and it sounds like he wasn't going to kill himself (though at times he got close) for Sam fuging Darnold and our swinging gate of an offensive line. -
Desperation would be throwing our 1st round pick at the Falcons for Ryan or something ridiculous like that. We aren't acting desperate because we are exploring our real options.

Tell that to the Saints -
If a team can build around a Trent Dilfer, a Brad Johnson, a Nick Foles, etc. and win a Super Bowl? We can do much worse than Minshew.
-
This is the best case scenario. I honestly think Minshew can have a Ryan Fitzpatrick type of career at worst. He is a good QB. Is he great? No. But he can score, he can win, and he can excite a team that has had QB issues.

It was the team assembled around Watson that failed. Watson made the team better. -

It was the clear mishandling of Cam Newton and his career that would have lead to this. -
People keep dragging the idea, but I say go after Gardner Minshew. He has shown he can play in this league, wouldn't cost much, and would at least add intrigue to the QB room.

Everyone thinks they know something. No one knows anything. The End.
