  1. Oof horrible change right there. Reimer with the save though.
  2. What is with these 2 second power play goals. Holy poo. Draw, Pass, Pass, Trocheck dunks.
  3. Probably would have more if we weren't off sides half a dozen times due to bad passes.
  4. With TT out again with Concussion symptoms oof.
  5. Oh fug. Staal took a puck to the face point blank from our D's clearing attempt. Looks like upper jaw, Ear area.
  6. Oops can't edit anymore but just had the thought, This was suppose to be Mrazek's target game to be back? No mention of that in the articles. Wonder if he had a set back or if the date was just on the optimistic side. Edit: found an update from yesterday I missed.
  7. An early Sunday evening puck drop pits the Carolina Hurricanes against the Florida Panthers for the third time in nine days. The Match-Up Florida Panthers (15-4-4, 34 points) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (16-6-1, 33 points) Sunday, March 7, 5 p.m. Watch: FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports GO Listen: 99.9 FM The Fan, Hurricanes.com/Listen, Hurricanes app 5: Jake Gardiner has missed the Canes' last five games with an upper-body concern, but he practiced again with the team on Saturday. According to Brind'Amour, Gardiner "kind of gave us the thumbs up that he was 100 percent. He's an option for us tomorrow, probably game-time on that one." The Opposition Last five games: 3-0-2, 8 points On the road: 8-1-1, 16 points CAR vs. FLA: 2-0-1 Leading scorer: Jonathan Huberdeau, 28 points (10g, 18a) in 23 games The Panthers are riding a five-game point streak (3-0-2) after consecutive victories in Nashville. Led by a hat trick from Noel Acciari, Florida completed its two-game sweep of the Predators with a 6-2 win on Saturday afternoon. https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/gameday-preview-florida-panthers-carolina-hurricanes/c-322188690 https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/projected-lineup-florida-panthers-carolina-hurricanes/c-322222142 Forwards McGinn-Aho-Teravainen Niederreiter-Trocheck-Necas Svechnikov-Staal-Fast Martinook-Paquette-Foegele Defensemen Slavin-Hamilton Skjei-Pesce Gardiner-Fleury Goalies Reimer Nedeljkovic Scratch: Lorentz Injury: Mrazek (right thumb) Taxi squad: Bean, Geekie, McCormick, Ryan As noted above Gardiner seems to be recovered from is upper body injury but is a game time decision and we could see Bean-Fleury again. Reimer getting the start tonight.
  8. https://www.nhl.com/news/seattle-kraken-2021-nhl-expansion-draft-rules-same-as-vegas-golden-knights-followed/c-302586918 "Seattle must choose a minimum of 20 players under contract for the 2021-22 regular season and those with an aggregate Expansion Draft value that is between 60-100 percent of the prior season's upper limit for the salary cap. Seattle cannot buy out players chosen in the Expansion Draft earlier than the summer following its first season. Current NHL teams can protect seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie, or eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goalie, under the following conditions. * All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team's applicable protection limits. * All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward protection limits. In addition, all NHL teams must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the draft: * One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played in at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons. * Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons. * One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list. * Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or who otherwise have been confirmed to have a career-threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy a team's player exposure requirements unless approval is received from the NHL. Such players also may be deemed exempt from selection." ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team's applicable protection limits. So we know Staal is protected automatically. All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward protection limits. (From a blog (Update 12/10/2020: A player who has completed his second pro season, and will be entering his third pro season in 2021-22, is still exempt. This was clarified by league muckety-muck Bill Daly prior to the 2017 expansion draft, and we include it here to clear up any confusion.)) But here's where poo gets fuggy. I'm not sure if its following the Golden Knights with "Professional Players" aka those that have completed seasons in the AHL or if its following the above language of "NHL" players. Here is the Golden Knights draft language compared to the above: "All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits)." So assuming its the above Every breakdown site is following the language of "Professional Player", even the NHL article above say its the same but the language is clearly not the same if you compare the two. I'd love to see a copy of the actual in league memo to clarify this but I can't see to find it. Necas will be exempt either way. Bean is exempt as is Lorentz under NHL player rule not the professional player rule. According the Cap Friendly Bean needs 13 more games to be eligible as an offering and Lorentz needs 15 to apply to the below rule. In addition, all NHL teams must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the draft: Forward & Defenseman "under contract in 2021-22 and b) played in at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons." Goalie "One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22." So now we are left with RFA: Foegele, Svech, Bean & Ned as RFA. UFA Dougie, McGinn, Martinook, Paquette, McCormick, Ryan AND both Reimer & Mrazek. https://sinbin.vegas/curious-role-ufas-expansion-draft/ Full explination of how UFA worked during the Golden Knights draft. If we decide not to cover any of the above players it appears Seattle can negotiate with them and if someone signs that counts as our offering outright. Under Contract: Aho, TT, Nino, Trocheck, Fast, Pesce, Skjei, Gardiner Slavin & Fleury Heres where it gets shitty for us, at our current roster. We are required to expose one defenseman(easy) and two forwards(Not so easy) from the under contract list above. As any rules violation allows Seattle to acquire a second pick from us if they so choose. Defenseman there's a lot of roads but I'm not sure we'll protect Dougie frankly if he wants 8.5 and we want to give a max 6.5, Gardiner is the pretty clear offer up as long as his M-NTC doesn't apply here and I don't think it does. But now we have to pick between Aho, TT, Nino, Trocheck & Fast(+ Lorentz if he indeed is eligable, again, under the "Professional Player" rule. Trocheck and Nino are both UFA the following year so its really a cap call at this point, you'd expect though any sane team picking from our pot would snipe either Nino, Trocheck or Dougie. As obviously we are going to cover Svech and Aho. Probably offer up Fast as one from that list but that leaves Nino or Trocheck exposed. So basically we are looking at Nino or Trocheck left unprotected and probably picked under the NHL player rule. Both players I wouldn't want to lose but perhaps one a potential cap causality the following year. If they were real crafty under the Pro player rule though they could offer Lorentz if they wanted to protecting, Forward: Staal, Aho, TT, Nino, Svech, Trocheck, Mcginn/Foegele Defenseman: Pesce, Skjei, Slavin or if Dougie plays ball than Slavin, Dougie - with either Pesce or Skjei exposed Goalie: We'll get there in a second because I have no fugging clue on this. https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft/seattle Here's a mock you can use but they are also using the "Professional Player" rule. One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list. Now for the part that I have no clue. Ned is eligible under the pro player rule but not NHL player rule. Under the NHL player rule we don't have a goalie to offer up as both Mrazek and Reimer are UFA, i'm pretty sure that would be considered a violation of the rules and expose us to 2 draft picks but not positive as it really isn't our fault and we aren't trying to hide anyone. If its Pro Player we have to expose Ned and give him the qualifying contract to meet the RFA requirement. If its NHL player as above, no fugging idea as we don't have a goalie that applies. The goalie we signed yesterday doesn't meet any of the criteria. I don't know if one rule supersedes the other in this case or what. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ So basically my two questions are; Is it Professional Player seasons or NHL seasons because that dramatically alters who we expose? And our goalie situation and the rules so we don't get fugged by the rules just because both are goalies contracts are up on a season where there's an expansion draft. If I'm wrong on anything else please feel free to correct me, those of you who are more in the know on this than I. Personally my protection list is much the same as above; Forwards: Staal, Aho, TT, Nino, Svech, Trocheck, McGinn and hope that Foegele isn't picked or vice versa. Martinook should be safe as there is a much higher value player from us that will have to be exposed. Defense: Pesce, Skjei, Slavin. All under contract for quite a few years so will be our defensive core unless Rod sours on one of them. Sorry Dougie but if you don't want to play ball you will be a prime target for Seattle. Goalie: Mrazek but Ned in reality if there is any way we can skirt the rules to protect him and he isn't covered by the expose/exempt rules. Edit: Don't forget we can offer incentives for Seattle to pick a certain player too. Lets say we wanted to open up Gardiners cap space for Dougie and/or Bean we could offer him and a draft pick or two behind the scenes. Much as we did during the golden knights draft. "The Carolina Hurricanes traded Boston's fifth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft (previously acquired) in exchange for Vegas selecting Connor Brickley.[15]"
  9. I'm good with rolling with what we have. I don't know for sure but I think this goalie call up was to cover the expansion draft. If Waddell & Rod want to make a move I trust their judgement but I feel like they like this current line up.
  10. Fabbri sure got in his head. That doesn't look as bad as the low angle shot but still just dirty. Don't usually expect that from our guys. That is textbook Slew foot. Really hope he doesn't get a game or two. Also why is it every time we play the Red Wings Fabbri is involved in some kind of dirty/rough play from either our side or theres.
  11. I have not been this excited about a Carolina sports team since 2015 Panthers. Rod, Waddell & Dundon have turned this team into a sustained powerhouse on all fronts. With the addition of Williams on the front end, I wonder if we'll let him dip his toes in coaching too at some point or if he'll be a purely Manager guy. A wealth of good rookies waiting in the wings. Solid Contracts for years to come and of course the play on the ice. If we can just tighten up the screws vs. bigger more physical teams like Boston/Caps I expect lots of fun for years to come.
  12. Fabbri was overly harassing him for sure but I don't recall if any cheap shots were dished out to that point. Pesce was definitely pissed though when he did it.
  13. Tampa just scored with a tenth of a second on the clock in overtime. Poo.
  14. Ya I figured the Svech goal would have been the wake up. Aho needs to stop going for the 5 hole.
  15. Following a weeklong, five-game road trip, the Carolina Hurricanes return home to begin welcoming fans back to PNC Arena when they host the Detroit Red Wings. The Match-Up Detroit Red Wings (7-15-3, 17 points) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (15-6-1, 31 points) Thursday, March 4, 7 p.m. Watch: FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports GO Listen: 99.9 FM The Fan, Hurricanes.com/Listen, Hurricanes app Tracking the Storylines Svech vs. Svech: It's finally time. For the first time in their NHL careers, the brothers Svechnikov are set to face off against one another. ACL surgery sidelined Evgeny for Andrei's rookie season in 2018-19. Evgeny then spent much of the 2019-20 season in the AHL, and though he logged four games with Detroit, he just missed a trip to Raleigh. The beginning of this season seemed promising, with the two teams facing off twice in Detroit, but Evgeny was left off the Red Wings' opening night roster. At long last, with Evgeny having tallied two points (1g, 1a) in his season debut on Feb. 27 and scoring another goal the next night, the showdown is set. "Every day I go to sleep I start thinking about that. It's going to be so much fun if we play against each other. That's our dream," Andrei said in early January. "It's going to be lots of fun. Maybe I'll see him on the first shift and I'll try to hit him or do something, we'll see." The Opposition Last five games: 2-3-0, 4 points On the road: 3-9-1, 7 points CAR vs. DET: 1-1-0 Leading scorer: Bobby Ryan, 13 points (6g, 7a) in 24 games This brief stop in Raleigh marks the end of a four-game road trip for the Red Wings, who have won just three of 13 games away from Detroit this season. The Wings began the trip with a 5-3 win in Chicago before dropping the rematch 7-2 and then falling 4-1 in Columbus. https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/gameday-preview-detroit-red-wings-carolina-hurricanes/c-322061156 For the first time in over a calendar year, the Carolina Hurricanes will have fans back in PNC Arena. It will be just 15% of the building's capacity - close to 3,000 fans to watch the Canes face off against the Red Wings - but even that is going to make a noticeable difference in game atmosphere compared to the artificial hum that's become commonplace in the last calendar year. https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/canes-amped-to-play-in-front-of-fans-at-pnc-arena/c-322082718 Forwards Svechnikov-Aho-Teravainen Niederreiter-Trocheck-Necas McGinn-Staal-Fast Martinook-Paquette-Foegele Defensemen Slavin-Hamilton Fleury-Pesce Skjei-Bean Goalies Nedeljkovic Reimer Scratch: Lorentz https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/projected-lineup-detroit-red-wings-carolina-hurricanes/c-322076780 Ned in net tonight, TT is back I kind of wish Rod would keep the Aho - Necas thing going though and let TT play with Trocheck for a while. First game with Fans! I wonder if we will see a storm surge tonight!!! It's going to be interesting to hear a little cane noise in the background for the first time too.
  16. What it feels like to have an actual football team. How far we have fallen. I look at the Canes and then at the panthers and minus a handful of players i'm like what the actual fug is Tepper + GM + Rhule doing.
  17. He does, he just doesn't hit hard usually, he's more about using his size with finesse to win puck battles, etc. I'm sure a moderate hit from him ='s a big hit from someone like Bean though. I agree we probably won't see him next season and absolutely need a big guy to replace him because we don't have anyone that fits that criteria right now.
  18. Sounds like it’s a hint to Houston if anything.
  19. Still want to know what that was all about. Nobody asked post game that I heard.
