  1. Months before it happened I called that the worst case scenario of squandering the release of Cam would be by signing an absolute lead balloon like Teddy Twoyards, naming him specifically. It was my biggest fear that Hurney and the new coaches would be conned into thinking that with their swagger and huge egos, that they could take this career loser and turn him into a playoff QB at only 60% the cost and get one over the rest of the league. Like the braggadocios wannabe lady killer who thinks he just needs to get a lesbian into bed to turn her straight. Of course it was a clear and obvious failure as just about all but the majority saw coming. This year's worst case scenario would be throwing good money after bad by making the Jimmy G and Teddy T.Y swap that has been rumored.
  2. I would do it. You're kidding yourselves if you don't think Russ has 10 elite years left. He's an ironman and allegedly is already doing the same diet poo that Tom Brady is doing to extend his athletic years left.
  3. Because Joe Brady vouched for him and Tepper was still naively thinking that owners should always defer to the "football guys", which of course is a mantra spread by the very same football guys to promote their job security
  4. All-in to Miami is also possibly thinking either Tua, or one of Fields/Wilson is good enough to win with, and that those 5 firsts to shore up their last remaining weaknesses for immediate impact players are the key to going all in
  5. I don't care if he was intimidating the Panthers if he was intimidating opposing defenses, which he hasn't been capable of in years. Weird to see him even broach this topic, when Rhule and the front office have very clearly been validated in their decision to cut him loose after his awful play this year
  6. his biggest mistake was trusting Hurney and Joe Brady in year 1/2, which led to the Teddy Twoyard disaster after the "football guys" vouched for him. Since then it sounds like he's been more hands on, and is the only reason we're even in the Watson hunt, which normally hyper conservative risk averse "football guys" would never try because they are all scared shrinking violets afraid to rock the boat in any way that could lead to less job security. If he gets Watson, he's already done more for the franchise than Leg Shaver did in 25 years. If he fails, then he has nothing but a legacy of failure so far.
  7. Bill Belichick wanted to trade Tom Brady and start Jimmy G when he was due for a contract in a year. Meddling owner Robert Kraft forced Belichick to keep Brady and trade Jimmy G instead. Result? Two more Patriot Super Bowl seasons. if Tepper wants to meddle for Watson, then meddle away please!
  8. You're bidding against yourself at that level - even though i'd do it in a heartbeat. Fact is, Jets and Dolphins aren't going to pay anywhere near that kind of haul when their staff will just think "**** it, at that price give me Wilson/Fields on a rookie deal". We'll never have to match, let alone beat an offer like that
  9. Let me know when Deshaun follows that Panthers account
  10. Jets won't outbid us. They won't be able to stomach passing on a prospect like Wilson or Fields *and* putting a bunch of picks on the table
  11. if Texans were truly not going to trade Watson they wouldn't be negotiating through their media mouthpiece John McClain
  12. TExans dragging their feet will also play in our favor as Miami and SF feel they are contenders this year so they will want to address and solidify their QB situation sooner than later, whereas we can afford to wait however long.
  13. This is the corollary Mister Scott refuses to address. It might so happen that Dolphins/Jets view the 2nd and 3rd QB out of the college ranks so favorably that by their calculus, it isn't worth a trade for Watson that includes picks/players anywhere close to what's rumored for Carolina, three 1sts + CMC, and thus would not want to match it, when they feel that the college QB + keeping those picks is better to build an elite team now. Meanwhile that plays into us trading for Watson, because from our perspective the 4th or 5th QB off the board isn't that valuable in Tepper's eyes, and thus a trade calculus including those multiple 1sts is in fact worth it.
  14. Voth is wrong as much as an opinion concerning an unrealized objective event can be. Everything that's been reported about Tepper's mindset indicates he's sick of this milquetoast bull poo and isn't going to tolerate it for a second longer. I think last year when he let "the football guys" make the decision, as you're supposed to as an owner, and all it did was led to the disastrous Teddy Two Yards year, it really soured him on the supposed wisdom of letting the football guys make all the calls and all the other unwritten BS around the league. In Tepper's mind, he paid billions for this team, he's in his 60s, he wants a winner, and as long as he's cutting the checks then he's going to get a say. He's got a fan's mindset and that's a good thing, unlike Leg Shaver who was just happy to run a family business where everyone can be comfortable.
  15. Look at the history of Carolina 1st round drafts. The only three year span that you can argue was worth more than DeShaun Watson were 2011-2013 with Cam/Luke/Star. Only other span with even an argument is 2010-2012 because of Cam and Luke. Note that Watson is a much better QB than Cam. Even Morgan/Peppers/Gross isn't worth as much as DeShaun.
  16. Does Tepper read his fan mail? I want to contact him to advocate for Watson. He needs to hear from fans on the ground in the Carolinas about how much of a win this would be both on and off the field
  17. The truth is Brown, Burns, Moore, etc, haven’t shown they are any more than players you can find in the draft every year anyways. This board is full of homers who treat them like future 1st team All pros but in reality they are expendable to a degree any somewhat competent GM can replace them in a few years tops. In the long run these type of players come and go. Meanwhile some franchises after half a century haven’t gotten their hands on a QB as impactful as Watson.
  18. 3,4,5 picks, chinn, burns, brown, don’t care. Get it done. Watson will still be a top 5 QB that even with JAGs can get you to the playoffs still playing at an elite level long after we have turned over those picks. Don’t even care if the team is gutted for one to three seasons, Watson still has 10 years more than those anyways
  19. The best Sportsbook handicappers in the world don't think a single pass rusher, outside of maybe LT historically, moves a point spread more than 0.5 at most given their presence. QBs like Watson can move a spread by more than a touchdown. Yes he's worth ten Brian Burns by the people who know value the most
  20. He's not better than a Garrett/Mack/Watt and even if he's as good as you say he is, he's going to cost a pretty penny to keep regardless. Even a top tier pass rusher doesn't move an NFL line on game day. Absolutely nothing compares to an elite QB, period.
  21. Cool maybe you can watch DeShaun highlights and understand a top 5 QB like him, at age 25, is worth ten Brian Burns
  22. what's with all the Brian Burns homer takes? he was tied for 15th in sacks and FF this year, not in the top 100 for tackles. At best a top 25%ile starting DE, he's not some untouchable Mack, Watt or Garrett, goodness. If he's the dealmaker, get it done without losing an ounce of sleep, WGAF
  23. Shaq and Boston are the only ones on the 53 left over from 2015? Might as well have been a 100 years ago
  24. If Tepper makes this happen he'll have done more good for the franchise in two years than the Leg Shaver did in twenty five
  25. i'd give up four, if the new GM is good he can make do with 2nds and 3rds and free agents with the defensive core we have already. With DeShaun behind center we own this division for most of the decade
