Agree. #39 SHOULD be considered a starter from day 1, unless we draft a project QB that we plan to sit for a while to learn, which is an option. Since I've chosen to consider Darnold a rookie project QB, I hope we come away from round 2 with a starter at LT and CB.

WFT's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for #39, which he uses on Aaron Banks, the 5th best LG in the draft that he immediately plans to move to LT. Genius!! BTW, when TF are they going to get a name?? It's been over a year already. They should call themselves the no-congressional term limits, that's the scariest thing in DC that I can think of.
-
exactly. After QB, I think LT is the most important position on the field, followed by DE/CB. That's why they cost the most in FA. That 5th year option is very important.

All their fans were too fugged up to take the survey. -
Rapoport said he's open to reworking it if it helps get a deal done. I've said a few times that he'd be one of the best backups in the league, like he was in 2019. He just has no reason to be a fulltime starter. It would definitely behoove him rework his deal. Backups quickly get forgotten if they're riding the pine. He was able to pull off a good deal last year by stringing together a few good games in 2019, and Dalton did the same thing this year. Someone will be desperate enough in 2022 to consider starting him.

Also, the Jets had to give a lot of thought to what they could trade the #2 pick for before letting Sam go. After SF set the value so high, they had to wait it out a little while before trading away their backup plan.
-
I thought that too, BUT Watson and Darnold are 2 very different trades.
-
me too, but hopefully that 2nd rounder ends up being #64.

You're not supposed to reuse them!

#8 Slater, #39 Mond. Done and Done!

Bold prediction- Panthers will target/draft Kwity Paye.

I like Paye, but if we do draft him, I hope it's not at 8. -
Report: CB AJ Bouye close to deal with Panthers
shaqattaq replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Today. I'm still thinking Pride has a lot of potential considering he got thrown to the wolves last season. Having a veteran probowler and a full off season can't do anything but help him get better. Plus, this move does nothing to deter my hopes of getting a CB by day 2. -
Report: CB AJ Bouye close to deal with Panthers

especially with a 17th game now. We still would get him for 15. -
Post Sam Darnold trade: #8 Rashawn Slater, LT, NW #39. Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, SYR. I wanted his brother a few years ago, and I want him now.
-
OK Fua, you've convinced me. Darnold has potential to be a franchise QB if our staff can somehow unlock it. I'm onboard the Sam Express, and I am on record a couple of weeks ago as preferring Minchew to Darnold. Go Panthers, Keep Pounding!
-
Underwhelming compared to all the crazy offseason theories we've seen, but this would NOT be a bad thing. Locking down A franchise LT or CB for 5 years would be huge! After QB, these are our 2 biggest needs.

Additional motivation behind the Darnold trade?

All I want are smart moves. This is just like the Teddy move. We're acquiring a trash QB hoping desperately that he won't be trash for us. These moves usually turn out predictably. History isn't on our side here. Hell, Ya'll are both right. I agree that trading a 2nd for a guy that has been nothing but terrible so far seems a bit desperate, BUT, I want to see how all this plays out before I lose my poo. LG, you have to be impressed by last year's draft, right? Other than the 2 QB moves (and possibly giving CMC a kazillion dollar contract), what has this staff done that has hurt the franchise?
-
I never expected the top four to be at 8. But I’m cool with drafting Fields or Lance there. Just don’t see it being an option. IMO, Sam is a better option than Teddy, and actually saves us money this year (assuming we cut TB post 6/1). If we are able to get a rookie QB, we simply don't pick up his 5th year option. The only downside to this whole thing is having to part with next year's 2nd. But hell, maybe we'll get lucky and a change of scenery will make Sam the second coming of Joe Montana.
