That would be a very strong plan, I’d be all in tbh.

What a bunch of sad people. Upset that the owners of the team will be part of the interview panel. And (gasp), one of them is a woman.
-
Agree. That would be the most important thing for one of these young OCs. How do you plan to build your staff? Are you bringing in any previous HCs for help etc. If they have that, there is a clear path to success.

Seems like a very solid group overall. The only one potentially missing is the Seahawks OC. Uphill climb for Wilks as the only defensive coach. Could be really good to pair up Caldwell with one of the young guys. I think that’s why they are interviewing him. Not sure there is a role called “first time head coach support / assistant head coach”, but that would be a good one.

Didn’t know, that makes sense

So Jalen Carter is supposed to be in contention for #1 pick overall. I didn’t notice him against Ohio State, haven’t seen him today. Am I missing something?

Hiring an agency to help out would give you the exact same line-up of coaches. It is not a mystery who the top available coaches are. Three years ago they would have suggested Rhule as well. This is why you hire a good GM and assistant GM. It should be their job to find a HC.

Didn’t Mariucci take over, or was that just a different thing?
-
Well she is the co-owner of the team, so it makes a lot of sense.

I think it is a good thing. She wouldn’t hesitate to call Dave out if needed. I think she wants to make sure the whole Rhule thing doesn’t happen again.

My favorite is people saying they are stupid to win. Of course the players try their best. I would have preferred a loss, but you can’t blame the players for winning. Weird stuff.

What’s the scenario? I’m intrigued

Report: Panthers to interview Jim Caldwell, Frank Reich
Martin replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m one of the few that actually like both of them I guess lol. Good start to the interview cycle. I think we will interview a fairly large number of candidates, so no need to freak out. Why wouldn’t we interview them? You always learn something. Also, if we hire on of the young somewhat inexperienced OCs, it would be great to have a very experienced former HC as an OC under him. I think this is part of this as well. And that is a smart thing! -
No Jim Harbaugh - Carolina focusing attention elsewhere
Martin replied to therealmjl's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m guessing here, but I don’t think Tepper wants another coach demanding full control. And I agree with that. The list of demands from Jim is probably pretty long. Also, based on last years interview oddness with the Vikes, something just doesn’t feel right about this. -
Can he block or is he purely a receiver?

"We should have traded Burns" - a rebuttal
Martin replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’ve never said you can’t replace his value, I don’t disagree there. But I don’t agree that it is easy and cheap to find another 12 sack DE. -

I think Brown would be a great DE in a 3-4 as well. Would like to see us move that direction if possible. -

I was trying to be super sarcastic in my post. In real life it is very hard to replace him. -

I think you are missing the point. It is super easy to replace Burns. You can easily draft an equivalent player in the end of the first round, it is essentially guaranteed. I’m myself shocked that more teams don’t draft his level of player in the end of the first round as they are available all the time. Or you can sign a FA really cheap to replace him, they are also readily available. This is super easy, yet few teams do it, it is really confusing. -
He is definitely still a candidate. Is he the favorite? Probably not.

I would prefer an offensive HC, but I would be ok with Wilks to give him an off-season to build his own staff, update the roster to fit what he is looking for etc. I believe he has all the leadership qualities a HC should have, but still learning some other points. I don’t get the interest in other potential defensive HCs, like DeMeco Ryans, at all. If you want a defensive HC there is no need to move away from Wilks. The 49er defensive line is the best in the league and when Ryans leave the next DC will also look great behind that line. So for me is top tier offensive coach or Wilks. I would probably lean towards Frank Reich if I had to pick.

Car/TB showing different approaches this week
Martin replied to Cdparr7's topic in Carolina Panthers
Feels like Tampa is an unorganized poo show this year tbh. They should be better with that roster. Leftwich looks like a disaster and has probably taken himself out of any HC openings, Todd Bowles let Brady run the show and the team is paying the price. They might still win, but I wouldn’t mimic their approach. -
That was super impressive. He showcased an ability to improvise, and being able to run when needed. Super interesting to see where he stands with scouts after that performance.
