  1. From Panthers.com “Walker will play the first and the third quarters tonight against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium, and Corral will play the second and fourth quarters. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said that offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo wanted to give them a chance to see what the backup role is like during the regular season. "It's two things; we want to see them both with the same groups, as best we can, so they both have the same set of receivers, and there's a consistency there," Rhule said. "And then we see them with the third group, so there's some consistency there. "Then the second part, and this was coach McAdoo's idea, and his perspective, as a backup quarterback, you have to be ready to go in the game at a moment's notice, and you have to be able to excel and play well without having much of a chance to warm up. This is our way of simulating that for them, where they have to warm up and get cooled down and go in there and be hot; that's how I see it." McAdoo said the challenge for both Walker and Corral would be to play well when they're on the field, of course, but also stay engaged through the whole game from a mental and physical perspective. "They don't have time to get ready; they have to stay ready through the course of the game. And this is a way to test them on that," McAdoo said. "They obviously have to see the game as it unfolds, they have to play the game on the sideline, they have to keep their legs loose and their arms loose throughout the course of the game, so they'll have to do that in the game."
  2. I agree, that is the only logic I can see as well. I don’t think it will happen, but I can see the reasoning behind it.
  3. I think that is a great point and we’ll see how it plays out this year. We have on paper very solid coordinators this year, so Rhule should be able to back off and focus on being the HC. He does trust Snow and, as far as I know, he doesn’t micromanage the defense. If he backs off, that will be a different Rhule than we’ve seen in the past and would show that he can evolve/change. If not he will never change. I’m still super concerned about his game management etc. but maybe even that will change if that is his sole focus. I can see it go either way at this point, but for now I’m going to lean on blind hope
  4. Here’s my guess. Baker is now the starter, so Darnold starts Q1, , PJ starts Q2 and Matt plays the second half. I hope I’m completely wrong on this (outside of the Baker official announcement) and Matt plays the first half and PJ second half.
  5. From what I’ve read they see the joint practices as much more important then the game, so essentially no need for the game. Got this from Panthers.com “Now that the league has reduced the preseason to three games instead of four, do the coaches view joint practices almost as a preseason game? — Eric, Jacksonville, FL No, they view them as a much better alternative to a preseason game. A game is dictated by a lot of random factors you can't control. So when they were looking at quarterbacks last week in Washington, one had to start his drive deep in his own territory, the other in the red zone after a turnover. In a practice, if you want to see them both get 12 snaps of red zone work, you can script 12 plays of red zone work. If you want to concentrate on a two-minute offense, you can build a schedule to provide for that. Letting quarterbacks wear red jerseys, which means they can't be hit, is a bonus. That allows them to get that work without the same degree of danger. In terms of getting ready to play regular season games, joint practices are better than preseason games in practically every way. It's not as good a television product, and people aren't as likely to tailgate and drink a bunch of beer before a 9:30 a.m. practice (or maybe they are, who am I to judge?). But as an actual tool of instruction and evaluation? Give me a joint practice every time.”
  6. I apologize if my response was confusing. I think Ickey will be ready and I didn’t mind the way they brought him along. That was my position, I thought that was easily inferred. You inferred that he wasn’t going to be ready in your previous message, so I was curious to why (outside of “but Rhule…”). So that’s my final point as I don’t want to clog up the board with another drawn out “debate”. I look forward to your condescending response.
  7. So why isn’t Ickey be ready for week one? 100% of his reps has been at LT, sure he started on the 2nd team for 2-3 weeks, but maybe it was a good way for him to get ready. As soon as his very respected OL coach found him ready he was moved in to the starting line-up. This would not have been an issue with anyone with another HC. Get over it.
  8. To the “there is no plan, we are all going to die” crowd. The plan all along was to announce the starter after the second pre season game. I don’t agree with the plan, but they actually had one. Same with Ickey. I think they expect Baker to win the job from the get go, but wanted to see how he picked up the offense, interacted with team mates etc. Again, I think it took too long. But they had a plan in place that they stuck to. It’s not like they are just winging it on a daily basis. Rhule deserves a lot of criticism, but everyone calm down a bit.
  9. I agree, he was decent. He does get bullrushed too often, but on a lot of other occasions the LG was supposed to be there to help out, but since that left guard was MJ… Not super excited if he’s the C, but not a disaster either.
  10. I prefer Bozeman, but I wonder what Elflein looks like next to two competent guards. No C in the league would look good next to Jordan at LG. I’m thinking we might draft a C high next year.
  11. A lot of whining about our beat reporters. Personally I think we have a lot of good writers, Joe is great over at the Athletic, Ellis is great at the Observer, Panthers.com has a lot of well written pieces. What we don’t have is the “breaking news” crowd. I take writers over breaking news tweets any day, but maybe I’m old school.
  12. I thought it was really well done, I enjoy the behind the scenes interactions between the players and coaches. Darnold seems like a great guy, just not a good quarterback. Super encouraged by Baker, drinking the cool aid with no hesitation.
  13. Brady looked really good at LG, he didn’t get fooled by anything (the opposite of Jordan), he’s obviously a very intelligent player.
  14. For the most part Ickey and Brady looked really good together, which is great news. It’s a no brainer for everyone but Rhule.
  15. Anytime the WR bobble a catch over the middle it turns in to a hospital ball. Not sure how much of that was on Corral.
  16. Agree on this, really like what I’m seeing. It’s the playing Elflien and Jordan as starters that is driving me crazy.
  17. They wanted Baker and Sam to get 6-8 plays each, so no big deal.
  18. Bozeman being at C is step 1, no we wait for step 2
  19. Agree with this. I’m all aboard the Corral bandwagon, and I want him to get more reps in practice. However, if he’s not ready to start by week 1, I’d rather they give him some more time. Set him up for success. My hope is that he will be our long term answer at QB. This is the time of year to be optimistic!
  20. What I liked best was his sense of urgency in the spirit of practicing like you play. Darnold was just jogging around in the same drill.
  21. You might for all I know be an awesome talent evaluator. However, acting like an a-hole on a message board doesn’t really give you any credibility. That is usually reserved for people who know how to discuss and argue as an adult. If you would learn how to do that, it sounds like you could have a lot of good knowledge to share.
