Btw, if I just bought a team for $6B I would do the exact same thing, but still funny

This gives me some serious Tepper vibes lol

I would keep the pick and reset the QB salary clock. I would take Maye.

Josina Anderson thoughts on the Burns situation
Martin replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
That read as if she’s best friends with Burns agent, wow. -
What I saw was someone who rarely hit his WRs in stride. They had to stop a lot to wait for the ball or do circus style catches. So that’s why I don’t consider him accurate at this point. Not sure how they actually measure accuracy as that doesn’t match up to what I see. But that is just my opinion, and maybe I’m completely wrong, who knows?

Isn’t he known as a kind of malcontent / underachiever? Or do I have him mixed up with someone else?

Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns
Martin replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The sticking point is the amount of money he’s asking for, that could be used elsewhere, when he’s a liability against the run and only gets double teamed 15% of the time. -
Here are two things I’d love to see: 1) Trade our 33rd pick for Brandon Aiyuk and sign him to a long term contract. 2) Trade Burns for a 1 and 3 in this year’s draft. Might be a stretch, but not that far fetched. 49ers would be able to find a very good replacement WR at a much lower cost with that pick. And it would give us an established #1 WR who meets Dan’s dog criteria.

Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns
Martin replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
It is irrelevant that he is our best pass rusher on our team, his pay and importance to us is about how good he is compared to others around the league. I mean would you pay top money to Tremble just because he is our top TE? Or top money to Chuba because he is our best RB? That kind of reasoning makes no sense. I do like Burns, but not enough to get even close to what he wants. -
I like Burns at the right price, but I still think he can be worth more if traded for picks (assuming a 1 and 3 at a minimum) as that would give us a good chunk to also sign another player.
-
They should extend him, he’s still playing at a very high level and can fir many years.
-
We have to go BPA with the state of our roster. That’s how the Lions built their roster and it is something to mimic. They were widely panned for taking a RB and LB in the first round, but they were both BPA in their rankings, and it paid off handsomely for them. We need great players and not reach for a position.

Completely disagree (which is ok) that Tepper sold Young to the org. Fitt loved him for years and it has been reported over and over that the whole org was sold on him. But I agree that Tepper was probably ecstatic that his preferred face of the franchise was the same player pushed by the GM and coach.

Ability to get open and create separation should be an absolute priority. I don’t care if they run a 4.7 Throw out the RAS metrics. Draft someone like McConkey. No more projects with upside kind of bs in round 2-3, that’s for round 6-7.

Just did a few rounds, but would love to see it:

I believe the general perception is that Wilks wasn’t as good as Saleh and Ryans. They both were good enough to get HC jobs. I’ve seen some numbers backing up the notion of a strong year for the 49ers defense, and it was. But it didn’t reach the heights it has in the past, despite same or better roster. The expectations for a DC on that team are just so high. I wish he would have gone there and blown the doors off, but that just didn’t happen.
-
There were signs throughout the season that they were not on the same page, so I’m not surprised. I think Shanahan wanted a different type of defense so the hire was a bit odd to begin with. But the Super Bowl loss itself is all on Shanahan, his offense did not deliver, players not aware of overtime rules speak of issues with preparations etc. I feel bad for Wilks, but in the end I just don’t think the two of them were a good match.

I don’t know if there is a single player in the NBA that is as up and down as PJ. You never know what you’re going to get with him.
-
If an o-line player is BPA at 33 (Jackson Powers-Johnson is my top pick if available) I would take him without hesitation.

Breaking Down the Shrewed moves that Built the Carolina Panthers
Martin replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s one thing to do trades, but to bomb every pick you acquired in those trades is wild. I mean we have a full time group of people that spend 100% of their time scouting players. It is absolutely wild how it can be this bad. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We would be better off just using Dane Brugler draft guide. -
Agree, his attitude and defensive tenacity is exactly what this team needs.
-
Wow, a lot of anger there.

I would extend him as well. He’s never injured, plays a position where you can play a long time, he’s a very good player that (I think at least) wants to be here, he’s a team leader etc.
