A NFL team should not plan to tank for the highest draft pick
davos replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think that was the plan, we have just been that bad at this whole football thing. -
I loved hearing him clarify what "getting over the hump" is. "Winning" He is just embarrassed. Can't get rid of an owner and it's clear he wants to win. Hope he picks a good HC/GM situation for 2023.

Oh man, this season is turning out to be one helluva roller coaster. This could actually become quite entertaining. Have 12 games left haha
-
Well actually, there's plenty of problems
-
There is no problem, just surveying who can go that's not expiring.
-
This will sound silly but he is and he isn't, I just don't view him that favorably. He's elite when everything is set up for success and he's not injured. If we're looking at just pure ability and football IQ & talent in a bubble, he is elite. But you have to consider the other factors or else, you're wasting time on a guy you can't trust. And then injuries aside, my biggest problem is that CMC being on this team has never really translated to success. It is in a HUGE way due to the team around him, but man, you want to see more success for having a supposed top talent I.E. Henry basically carrying the Titans offense to the playoffs consecutive years now. He's never lifted this offense enough to where you think we can win because of him. And now, he's nearing the modern RB production cliff. I've just kind of accepted he's going to produce a ton when healthy, and be a critical part of this team, but am overall pretty indifferent.

Yeah, for me, surveying the league and current formula for success, we really need to land another WR along with the obvious need at QB if we want to become successful again. In my view, IDL & WR have become key in the current 'league-wide adjustment chess match'. Diggs+Davis, Chase+Higgins+Boyd, Evans+Godwin+Jones, Brown+Devonta+Quez, you just need that arsenal these days as teams (like we've done) have been beefing up their DB rooms with these rangy, versatile guys. LAR would not be the defending champs without Kupp (or Donald for that matter which is also my other ideal positional target) List of wants: Offensive HC, new staff QB 3-Down multi-tech next to Brown WR1 3-Down DE w/strong run defense 1-2 LBs C (If Bozeman doesn't step in place of Elf at this point, there's something weird) An effective RB room, not bellcow Backup QB (Don't trust Corral in that role from what I've seen) It quickly adds up. I just don't buy we're some talented team with a bunch of pillars. We've got a good crop of 6-8ish solid core pieces, but not a single CURRENT (not future) elite/upper echelon talent. Chinn & Horn have that potential together CMC is teetering on elite, but you just can't trust him at all DJ is basically around a Torry Holt-type level.

They were a package the whole time. Was always and is forever the case. They will be together at Arizona State as well.

True to an extent when looking at expirings vs. cuttables. Reset, rebuild, whatever we call it is upon us. Think CMC and DJ are the obvious two pillars of the offense to watch. I like DJ but do wonder if we could net a 1st for him and send him to KC or GB. As you said Robbie and Shaq are as good as gone. We likely will make some big decisions in the coming weeks. Teams will be calling...

I believe the remaining bit of players he found that are still here are the higher round successful picks so yep, his stains are pretty much gone. And there's no drafts ahead that he really impacted, all just distant domino effects at this point. Feels nice. This is more of a refreshing reset forthcoming than I felt at Rivera's end. Can't quite explain why though
-
He's interesting in the respect that I do feel he has an offense that just works. I think he may have made Brees a bit more than Brees made him, but I think we need a focus on offense, a guy younger, in the league, that can be a bit forward thinking.
-
Though I think the guys that are core for the next regime are strong building blocks: Mainly Icky, Moton, Brown, Horn, & Chinn
-
I just don't see the talent to be honest. The OL and DBs are super promising but the rest of the team could really use a whole rest. QB, WRs, RBs, TE, LBs, all need a bit of a reset; depending on the coach.

Now that Rhule has been let go: Time to Suck Proud for Stroud
davos replied to Varking's topic in Carolina Panthers
Stroud looks great but OSU QBs just have such a problem. It's too often to not give pause. I really wish Young was tall haha. I love everything else about that kid. Levis has streaks where he looks pretty bleh Cam Ward and Grayson McCall are the other two that could rise, probably not to Young and Stroud status though. -
Anyone else get injected with some actual Hope for the future?
davos replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's also pretty unique because Tabor (ST), Wilks (HC) and McAdoo (OC) are all brand new. This is not like a typical interim that knows the system, well because we really don't have one haha -
Alrighty the elephant is out of the room and probably in the great state of Nebraska or Arizona soon. Wilks and PJ are the tank commanders, and hopefully we've seen the last of Baker and Darnold. Let us survey the demolition of the Carolina Panthers. Presented by Harris Teeter... OFFENSE QB Corral remains - Rookie Contract, doesn't look good though RB CMC - Has a contract out end of this year/could currently be shopped for something as he is finally healthy-ish. Not safe. FB None TE Thomas - His contract is actually cuttable post-23, but likely still around Tremble - Rookie contract WR DJ Moore - Deserves better, could get great value, or is he worth keeping until we get good again? Shi & Marshall - I mean, they're on rookie deals but it doesn't look pretty Robbie/y - Puke, but cuttable OL Icky, Corbett, Moton, Christensen, & Mays could stick 1+, the rest? GONE DEFENSE DL Derrick Brown, Gross-Matos look to be capable and can get better. Haynes I still like. Scheme versatile. Not seeing much retention elsewhere. Maybe Barno. LB Shaq but is honestly cuttable, maybe Luvu DB Chinn, Woods, Horn, Donte, & Taylor CONCLUSION This could be a pretty massive reconstruction ahead. Reassessing the roster, I didn't realize how bad it had become since the 2015 team's shadow dissolved. I realistically see 4-6 starters on defense and around ~3ish on offense (mainly OL) that will hold. The rest of this team is ready for a complete overhaul of a rather strangely built roster. So we have about three quarters of the active roster to rebuild under a new coach. Who's up for that challenge?

Wilks and PJ are effectively the tank commanders. Chooooo Choooooooo

Hot diggity damn

The real owner we missed out on… Mark Richardson
davos replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m not one for rumor mill stuff with players, but do have an ear into ownership circles through a circle of former rules committee dudes, ex-GMs and coaches. This team was never getting passed to the Richardson kin but Mark did himself no favors. Absolute sh*thead. And when the time finally came, Tepper was pretty much the top of their very real pipeline of potential owners. -
The real owner we missed out on… Mark Richardson
davos replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
True story: Mark was heavily involved with the South Park Madame ordeal but it was never really under the limelight—and actually tried to leave his family for one of her associates. He was pretty much disowned by his dad and reviled by many in the organization for other reasons. JR chose to sell not just because of NFL owner persuasion (even though he was effectively their senile whipping boy) but because he dissed his sh*t for nothing sons. Good ole Morrocroft drama -
There’s something missing with our offense that’s more obvious of a given “to do” in others around the league. Maybe a practice emphasis or I dunno, but something is just really skewed with not just our execution but in our designs and product at a fundamental level. Really feel like a sub league team that should be relegated at this point.
