Why is it too late? Can still pick-up someone at final cut time. I'm sure that Rhule and Fitterer are not 100% content to roll with these two and will make the appropriate roster moves when a better option presents itself.

True, but Jake 1.0 was sufficient to get us to the Big Dance. If Darnold can become Jake 2.0, it will be hard to argue that the trade for him was a bust. Consistent playoff appearances should be a reasonable metric for success. YMMV. -
