Probably, but there is a nice Venn diagram overlap between roster building for Bryce and for a future successor QB. The ‘friction’ is the degree to which skill players are drafted or signed specifically for a Bryce ‘small ball’ game plan. Just a SWAG but, perhaps 2-3 skill players (2 WR, 1 RB) would not translate well to a more traditional game plan on offense. Player fit is more of a continuum, rather than a binary yes or no.

I’m liking it. A proper long term rebuild. No panicky, impatient roster moves to ‘win now’. In the NFL, to build a perennially competitive team, there is no instant pudding.

I have no problem with Jewell or similar Edge on a cap friendly contract. Just don’t sign a ‘name’ like Clowney with a high salary expectations. We need to be shopping at the bargain bin until we can build a real, legitimate roster of draft picks and young players on first contracts. ‘Value’ signings are fine.

Do both. Draft and waiver wire cuts. Let’s not overpay for one year rentals. That’s what got us in this dumpster fire.

Final roster cuts may present acceptable options but, I hate going through preseason unsure of who might be starting opposite Wonnum. Don’t forget that we pick first on roster cuts.

If both McConkey and Robinson are still on the board at 33, I would be hard pressed to pass on McConkey. Both positions are needs but McConkey seems a very polished route runner and adept at separation, something I have heard mentioned in a positive light lately…

And therein lays the hope (or curse), if there is any. Bryce will have to re-sign with the Panthers on a cap friendly deal. Any other team will see and understand what the Panthers had to do to build a system around him, and the cost incurred. He will be a special situation QB, for the right system only.
