Maybe not. Supposedly, we were going to rescue Darnold from the Jets and, instead, we put him behind an Oline that was arguably as bad or worse than the Jets. Darnold started hearing voices in his head and 'happy feet' is what we got. I'm NOT saying that his rehabilitation is assured or even likely, just that it is still possible. A stout Oline made Jake look good. Lightning can strike twice. Maybe. [The eternal triumph of hope over experience.]

Despite the language of Rhule's contract about having final say, the feel of this offseason is that the adults are in charge, i.e. Fitterer and Morgan. I like the FA signings thus far, especially the commitment to the Oline. If my speculation is correct, Tepper has clipped Rhule's wings and letting real football people do their job.

Yes; no point in cater walling about what you can't change. Keep our 1.6 or trade back a little, but get a premier LT or C in the first. Roll with Darnold; Rhule gets capped and we are set up for a high first round pick next year. Use vaseline as necessary to improve the inevitable irritation.

They have reputations too, and I'm sure they don't want Rhule's stench on their future NFL careers, where ever that may be. Trade back into the teens to secure a second round pick. Draft Linderbaum in first, Kenyon Green in the second. Sign either Corbett or Connor Williams in FA. Your starting line up next year would be very young, but a great foundation for many years to come. LT - Brady Christenson, LG - Corbett or Williams, C - Linderbaum, RG - Elflein, Green or Brown, RT - Moton. Here's where it gets painful: Roll with Darnold this season. Darnold will either prove he was a victim of bad line play, leading to 'happy feet' and bad choices, or we have conclusive proof that he is broken and not salvageable. If he does well, hallelujah. If he flames out, we will pick in the top 10 and can take a shot at drafting the next QB of the future. This will not get fixed in one year. Why draft like it will?

Three, possibly four OL starter positions are up for grabs; sort it out among the two OL draft picks, BC, Elf and Brown in training camp. With Campen on board, we may finally have someone capable of coaching these young guys up. Oh, and quit throwing money at FAs with injury histories. Our K-Mart Blue Light Special deals have been badly wasted money, time and roster spots.

He's not a Temple/Baylor guy and he has tons of experience at the pro level. Give the poor guy a break. He is definitely a step up and may be just what was needed. We'll see.
