Just to clarify, my earlier comment was specific to Clowney and Scourton and not an argument for starting all or most of the rookie draft picks. It is an assessment (probably wrong) where I am balancing 1) rebuild year, 2) cap management, and 3) my perception that Scourton is already starter capable, if the expectations aren’t too unrealistic. Yes, the run defense may suffer initially but I think the long term benefits to the team and his specific development are greater than the short term potential step back in run defense at that one position. This may be my only post in my 20+ years here on the Huddle where I am arguing for taking risk, as I am congenitally risk averse. Anyway, I appreciate your measured and thoughtful counter argument.

I’m usually more risk adverse but, I’m wondering if it doesn’t make sense to rip the band aid off, trade or cut Clowney and start Scourton. Unless he just seems lost in camp, let’s throw him in the fire and get him real three down starter experience. We are still in the rebuilding phase, not the ‘win now’ phase.

Also interested in seeing what the Team does with UDFA. Who will be this year’s Coker?

Who goes first or would they both go to clear the deck for a new administration? -

I understand your point. My counter argument is that you are swapping a good, perhaps very good backup for a 2025 potential starter (Ez, Emmanwori). If Morgan doesn’t believe that either player would start and fill an immediate void, I wouldn’t do the trade. Starting calibre player only. -

Why, thank you! I tried really hard on that post. I’m glad I met your expectations… -

I would do the minor trade up without hesitation. I’m not sure I trust Morgan to execute deftly on the ‘big swing’ for Ez or Emmanwori… -

Or a player (Zavala; still on a rookie contract) and a later round pick to get up to the top of the second. Not likely but Zavala is probably as good as any G drafted in the second or later. I can’t think of any other player that would have perceived value for a trade up that we would be willing to part with. -
“He plucks the ball out of the air.” He’s not a body catcher; that ought to make some of the XL skeptics happy.

Two OT’s may be taken in the top 8 picks. If one of the two falls to pick 8, that could be your BPA.

[The Athletic] Dane Brugler's 2025 7-round Mock Draft

Another Panther’s 2nd round WR pick? -
Good logic. I see it.
-
Okay, throw away the poll list. You're the Panthers GM and we're on the clock; Emannwori is available. Would you pick him at 8?
-
Bonds agent on suicide watch...
-
No disagreement with you. The poll is me exploring the possibility that we do not get an acceptable trade down offer and have to make a choice at 8 so, who is a true BPA, not a need pick.
-
Walker has a lot to like. I'm still unsure if he is 'tweener' or an every down player.
-
For true BPA at 8, not need but BPA, I've come around to thinking that Will Campbell (OT) represents the best player available. Flame away.

It's 5:00 o'clock somewhere...

Unfortunately, I cannot change the poll at this point. Who did I overlook that you would have included in the list?
-
Probably but not guaranteed. I've seen a few recent mocks where he is available at 8.
-
Ward, Hunter, Carter are off the board. The poll assumes that any on the list are still available at 8.
