So Chinn back to LB full time? Buffalo Nickel? Big signing for us! Hope the numbers are solid.

Levis will be 24 when his first OTAs start. He is the same age as Justin Herbert and 2 years younger than Burrow, Allen, hell even Sam Darnold and other QBs getting ready for or entering their second contract in the NFL. Despite that age, he is not nearly polished enough as a prospect to make up for the 4 years you're losing. Look no further than his pro/cons, strength/weakness on every scouting report. Do any of them rave about the normal BS you see for 5 year QBs about him being "wise beyond his years" or his "football IQ" "maturity" or any of the other keywords? Nah - its all (and rightfully so) he physical tools. The biggest pros for Levis are that he has the prototypical size, has a good build, decent athleticism and an absolute cannon of an arm. Instantly have the strongest arm of any Non-Cam QB we've EVER had. My biggest issue is that he's never put it all together in an entire game against a team that isn't like a Youngstown state or comparable level. Hes never had a game where he has curb stomped a bottom feeder SEC team like Vandy, Missouri etc. When you watch his games, he can't throw to his left, he doesn't take care of the ball, has no internal clock whatsoever in terms of pressure, holds the ball too long and as the season went on obviously developed the yips (probably a combination of his oline and the toe injury he had) and he honestly gives me big time Sam Darnold vibes when I watch. For me he is firmly in my number 4 slot. If we are going to take a project based on physical attributes I would gladly take Richardson who is a better athlete and 3 years younger. Regardless if the staff and Fitt/Morgan like him I'll trust their collective judgement over my own, hope I'm wrong and cheer like hell for this guy.

If... AR drops to 9, do you take him then?

Man we (as a board) do this same song and dance every year lol. -

Richardson will be there at 9. Levis probably will be too. We won't be though. I really think this staff moves up to 1/3 to take Young/Stroud FA and pro days still have to play out and we still have a couple QBs still playing musical chairs for new teams. -
I might be reading too much into this but...

Cam will always hold a special place in my heart and I would welcome him back in a heartbeat as the vet in the room for Stroud or Corrall (or both) But that ship has long sailed. His return was probably the highlight of the Rhule era. -

He said "go play Superman" so the answer is obviously RETURN OF ACE BOOGIE /s -
The goofiest cornball coach in the NFL?
SteveSmithTD89 replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Opening pressers are hardly worth putting any sort of stock into and we don't need to look further back than some of the more recent "memorable" ones. Everyone on this board mocked Dan Campbell's presser with the biting the knee cap blurb. Everyone on this board laughed at what a bumbling buffon Nick Siriani sounded like in his opening presser. Lot of these guys its their first shot being "the guy" and a part of that is learning how to handle the media. I could care less if a guy has anxiety public speaking to the media or if he has awkward quirks or anything like that. Only thing I care about from my head coach is whether or no he is a good dude and whether or not he can coach his players. If the answer to both of those is yes, sign me up. -
Basically leaves us, Indy and now Philly with OC promotions for Kevin Patullo and Brian Johnson. One of those teams is getting left at the alter - hopefully isn't us. I guess Jim Bob isn't a bad fall back option but personally wanting Steichen as our HC I'd hate to not get someone from that Philly offense in the door.

Stop it. You can not like Pat McAfee, you can think he's annoying, loud mouthed or whatever other words you want to use to describe his version of sports media you clearly don't like. There is absolutely no scenario or universe where he is even remotely close to being "shittier" or even as terrible as Brett Favre is. The closest thing to a scandal McAfee has is an arrest for public intoxication when he was in his 20s. On a scale of 1 - Stealing money from fuging Medicaid recipients in the poorest state in the country... that may be a 1.

Duce Staley Joining Reich's Staff

He was already had the "Assistant Head Coach" title with the Lions so curious what his official role with the team will be. I'd still like one of Brian Johnson/Kevin Patullo for OC. -
Panthers Let the Great Be the Enemy of the Good.
SteveSmithTD89 replied to TheMaulClaw's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm gonna be honest I've heard this quote at every corporate funcintion and training class I've been in for the last 7-8 years in sales, mortgage lending and presently in Healthcare. And you've got it wrong. The true quote, which was originated as a misquotation of the Fench Poet Voltaire and made famous by Jim Collins Book Good to Great is: "Good is the Enemy of Great" In the chapter of the book he goes on to explain how as a country we don't have great schools, because we have good schools. We don't have a great government, because we have a good government. The vast majority of people love good lives rather than great lives because it is so easy to settle for good lives. I mean no offense to you but flipping the quote as a point of support to hiring Wilks is at its very core the literal essence of that true quote. Good enough sucks. It does, especially if you are capable of much much more. Wilks was good enough to right the Panthers back to a 6-6 finish. He's probably good enough to hover around that .500 mark. Then what? The 2023 Panthers would just be the next in a long line of Panthers teams to never have back to back winning seasons because the Carolina Panthers have consistently been "good enough" I'm not saying Frank Reich is going to get the Panthers to be great. Nobody knows that for sure. I would say I have more faith in his understanding of how to get a team to be great in today's version of the game. He is a much needed deviation to the norm for us as an offensive minded coach that has produced top offensive units helmed by Carson Wentz, The corpse of Phillip Rivers, Jacoby Brissett and Andrew Luck. His connections and eye for talent are great. -
Wasn't my first choice but I can get behind it. Go get Fangio as DC, Patullo as OC retain Campen and Tabor. Find a QB and lets do it! Welcome aboard Coach.
-
I by no means hold that play against him whatsoever. I could talk myself into any of the three known candidates. Steichen was my choice but seems that may not have materialized how anyone hoped.

Not sure if you've gotten an answer or not but Pat Macafee Darius Butler and AQ Shipley said based on what you can see based on lining your OL out wide with a speed guy, Dak running immediately after making the throw and the initial look the 9ers gave before the time out it likely was supposed to look something like: 1) Play designed assuming the 49ers rush none and drop 11 in coverage like teams usually do 2) Hook and lateral at the point of the catch, probably with Zeke or Dak 3) a throwback to the opposite sideline where you have a speed guy and linemen forming a seal like a screen On paper may have worked but we'll never know because the 49ers called a time out after seeing the formation and afterwards when they came out in the same formation the 49ers of course rushed zeke immediately and blew the play up.

Hell, we're already almost halfway there with exactly zero seasons even sniffing a ring. February 7th will be 7 years since SB50. Seven Years.

Could anything make you quit the team?
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Brooklyn 3.0's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ya know honestly probably not. I thought I was done after the CMC trade - especially with how we'd been playing up to that point with the way that Rams game went but time heals all wounds and Wilks somehow brought back some entertainment to my Sundays. I thought I was done when they cut Cam, but they picked up Teddy and having gone to Louisville while Teddy was there I was excited to see him QB the team especially since the last time we saw Cam he couldn't throw 15 yards down the field. It hurt but it felt like the right move at the time. I thought I was done when they cut Smitty but again there was reason to be optimistic with Cam, Greg, Luke, TD etc. He was my favorite player of all time but I understood the move. I think the reason why I'll never be able to quit the team is memories of the good times and a hope that things get better with an understanding that there will be bad times along the way. I have joked more than once the mindset is similar to a toxic relationship where you keep forgiving time and time again because of how things used to be and "maybe they'll change." Sincerely I have spent 2/3 of my life chearing for this team and over the course of that time I have so many great memories, many of them with my dad, that I will cherish forever. Panthers games win or lose will always be something I share with him. I will probably always hold onto that nostalgia and maintain a level of sentimental attachment that will make it tough to quit the team. Here's to hoping this blind loyalty ends with a super bowl at some point in my lifetime. -
So which QB do we think will be available at #9?
SteveSmithTD89 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Brady to Vegas Carr to the Colts Lions roll with Goff Seattle reups Geno We end up with our choice of Stroud or Levis at 9. -
Is it the way he plays or the way the Ravens, like Rivera and the old Panthers did with Cam, have designed an offense where he is forced to play like a battering ram on the eve of his massive payday due to the team's injuries and failure to address the WRs. They are dog poo without him out there because nobody can throw the ball when your leading receivers are some guy named Isaiah Likely and the ghost of Sammy Watkins. Get him some weapons and protection and go back to allowing him to be at his most dangerous when a play breaks down the way it was during his MVP season rather than forcing him to be the focal point of the entire offense.
-
Fitt said we wanna get sexy (sure he meant in the draft but I'll use it a bit broader Idk whats more sexy on offense then QB: Lamar RB: Foreman/Chuba/Blackshear WR: DJ Moore, Quentin Johnston (Rd 1), Terrace Marshall Jr TE: Darnell Washington (Rd 2) That offense would put some points up. In fact it probably breaks every team record from 2015 with a competent offensive coaching staff.
-
I'd be very down for Mike LeFleur as the OC if Wilks gets the job. Wilks isn't my first or maybe even my second choice for HC but I think we could do a lot worse than LeFleur.
-
Get through the combine and the pro days first and see what happens. Of course they don't love a QB and aren't wowed by anyone.... yet. They haven't met with them. Fields is a special special runner but he still leaves a lot to be desired as a QB with his ability to throw the ball. If Chicago takes a qb at 1 they essentially signal they do not believe in Fields and his price tag is going to plummet into the neighborhood of what Darnold went for when the Jets took Zac Wilson. They absolutely can not go into camp with both of those QBs and have a divided locker room. IF, and of course it's a big if, Chicago does pull the trigger on a QB I'm making the call to see if we could get Fields. I think Fields paired with a dynamic offensive coach (ideally someone like Steichen who literally molded an offense around a very similar skillet in Philly with Hurts) becomes a very ideal scenario for Carolina. Not saying Steichen is my choice at coach or that Fields will even be available but I am saying it is way wayyyyyy to soon to expect there to he any reason the Bears would say anything different regarding Fields.
