Official Texans at Panthers Gameday Thread
KB_fan replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Over at Pickwatch, I note we have a bit more respect this week. We're picked to win by 74% of the "experts." LOL 100% pick Saints over Bucs. Poor Bucs. Wouldn't it be awesome if they upset New Orleans?!?! That would be almost as good as a Panthers win. The pick on Giants v. Atlanta is pretty even. Slight edge (59%) to Giants in the picks. -

BBR's perspective re: Star being out. Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview 1m1 minute ago Nah. 14 games after this. Vs teams that can run. RT @JCashionIII: @BlackBlueReview should we getting concerned about Star? Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview 1m1 minute ago Big guy with injury in same foot is of course a long-term concern. But sense is Star could have played today. Wasn't worth the risk. 0 retweets 0 favorites -
I'm not so worried about our D, even if Luke doesn't play**. Obviously I hope he's ok to play, and Star too. But really what may make or break this game is our OLine. After looking legit in preseason, it was a bit rough on Sunday. Not only do they need to step up their play, but even worse, with Daryl's injury & Chandler's, we are THIN at OLine. Our only backups are Silatolu & Scott. Yikes. Daryl's injury, while not as bad as it could have been, is really tough given that we only kept 9 Oline guys this year. ---- **I mean just LOOK at what our D did in the 2nd half against the JAGS. Just Awesome!

As anyone who has been following my kind of rambling posts in the Week 1 Stats & Analysis thread will have seen, I decided to try and analyze "big plays" for both teams, so I can track that statistic for each Carolina game this year. That led me to creating a visual representation of each drive of the game in regard to big plays & outcome of each drive. Incredible to see that not only did we shut out JAX in the 2nd half, but the did not even ever cross the 50 yard line in the 2nd half. I hadn't realized that until I saw it in front of my eyes on the table I created. REALLY impressive. JAX was threatening quite seriously throughout the whole 2nd quarter. They left points on the field (as did we). But whatever adjustments our D made at halftime worked in a BIG WAY. Here's the chart so you can see for yourselves how the game is a tale of two halves for JAX:
-
No, probably not, but still, I really like his attitude, and he has some impressive ball hawk skills. I think we'll see him have some good games.
-
I noticed the positive turnover ratio of course, and the time of possession. Very few penalties. No points allowed in second half. For now, we've allowed the fewest points of any team with a completed game. We scored in every quarter. 18 receptions by nine different receivers - that was nice to see. We need Cam to be able to spread the ball around and not be too dependent on just Greg.Other than that, I'll have to see if I can find some time tomorrow evening to dig into the box score / gamebook. I've got a bad headache tonight and need to stop staring at the screen. But best stat of all 1 - 0. Ugly, but it's a win. That's enough for now.

So much for Stew getting only 15 carries! More like 40. Here's Ron's comments in the post-game presser. Given how little Stew played in the preseason though, this may have been a good thing to help him really get into the season.
-
Yeah, our pass protection was better than our run protection. Don't forget though that JAX has a new Off. Coordinator though, which meant not much opportunity for film study. I guess we did the "bend but not break" thing, but it was a close call at times with some big runs by Yeldon.
-
So far our D is leading in fewest points allowed among completed games. Sweet.

Nice props from RR to AJ Klein for stepping in for Luke and doing a nice job Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview 1m1 minute ago "The beautiful thing is [the defense] rallied around AJ ... I thought he did a nice job." - RR Thank GOODNESS we didn't cut or trade AJ Klein. Seriously.... Very glad too we still have Glanton on our PS right now too.

Glad for the win. Much too tough though. Jax defense was better than expected and TJ Yeldon did have some nice runs, and the Jax OLine gave Bortles a lot of time. We are a bit lucky to come away with the win... but our Defense got it done and our offense moved the chains a couple of times when they had to. Cotch & Ginn looked ok. Yes, some drops by our WRs, but it wasn't awful. Our run game was up & down... Our O Line took a step back it seemed. Takeaways the huge highlight. Good job on those.
-
True, didn't see much of Ealy today. Our pass rush was pretty much non-existent in the 1st half.
-
GANO. GOOD. We needed that insurance.

TOLDOZER

COTCH! Well done. He's been one of the best receivers in the game for us.
-
Not a fun game for us right now. Even if we can keep the lead and come away with a win, this is ugly and frustrating on so many levels.
-
These Refs are really messing us up. Bad spots of the ball and garbage penalties. It's not an excuse for our poor play on offense, but it doesn't help.
-
Good to see TD stepping up when needed. Has Shaq done much? I've not really seen or heard much of him today. My internet connection is a bit fuzzy, hard for me to really see what's going on sometimes.
-
Norman MVP of the game so far.
-
Now this is the D I want to see. CJ & Addison. Great.
-
LOL. That's just such a good comment. Wow!
-
Poor Greg can't get a catch without a penalty
-
I think Greg has been helping with a lot of blocking.

The man wants to be PAID. Check this out: Max Henson @PanthersMax 2m2 minutes ago CB Josh Norman's day so far: INT return for TD, forced fumble, fumble recovery, 2 passes defensed, four tackles.
