Let's hope the Skins can get a TD even though their offense has been lousy...
-
Gutsy move by Atlanta to go for that long 4th down That could turn the momentum of the game...
-
Wow another missed FG. Was there pressure on the kicker on either attempt, or is he just mis-hitting the ball?
-
Sure, the Skins have been lousy for so long now, and their management so poor. But they were great in the late 80s & early 90s. Gibbs really modeled high character and they were a team I could feel good rooting for. I'd not cared about football since (especially since I've worked overseas for long stretches of time most of the past 23 years) until catching Panthers fever in late 2012.

Just checked... prior to today. Atlanta was averaging 18.8 points per 1st half, ranking them 3rd in the NFL behind AZ & NE https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/1st-half-points-per-game But it turns out, Washington has been very stingy with its defense in other games too... allowing only 5.5 points on average in the 1st half, 2nd best in the NFL after Cincy. (Panthers are 8th lowest with an average of 8 points allowed in 1st half) https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-1st-half-points-per-game

Wow, great job by Washington holding Atlanta to 3 in the first half. Atlanta had scored 75 points in the 1st half of its previous games. Even if they'd made the FG, holding them to 6 would have been really noteworthy. Go SKINS! (It feels fun to root for the Skins again... I was a big Skins fan from 1987 - 1992 when I lived in the DC area... Joe Gibbs golden years... It was fun.)

thanks! appreciate the replies

Is he out of the game now, or still playing?

I was just coming here to post a question about Julio. I have lousy internet today and so I'm not watching or listening to any game, just periodically hitting refresh on the ESPN NFL scores page. At least as of a few minutes ago, Julio has no receptions. What's up? Is he covered too well?

For those interested in some interesting play calling breakdown, I recommend the audio interview with Greg Cosell at WFNZ. It's the first time I've listened to him, apparently he's on every Thursday. https://soundcloud.com/wfnz-610-am/greg-cosells-film-breakdown-of-the-panthers-10-8 In the beginning, they talk about the Tampa game, and Jameis not reading the Panthers coverage well... Then at 2:00 they talk about whether Panthers are likely to be able to keep forcing turnovers... at 3:10 they talk about how Luke's absence affected the defense at 3:50 they talk about Ryan Delaire The highlight of the audio begins at 6:15 - 10:00 they talk about Cam - the greater respect he's getting, is he different this year? Cosell says we have the "most diverse, unique and difficult to defend run game in the NFL". They talk about the 2nd touchdown to Ted Ginn in the Tampa play and how well-designed that play was. Great play & perfect execution. (They then talk about Ginn and his role on the Panthers). at 10:30 they talk about KK Short. Big question is how many snaps can he play. Another highlight: at 11:30 they talk about Oher and our Oline. "The way they run their offense really helps their offensive line..." "A lot of their passing works off of backfield actions, which helps the Oline" at 12:45 they begin to talk about other teams around the NFL....

Lest anyone doubt what PhillyB posted re: the role of the safety in helping disguise the coverage... I believe it's this very play that Ron R. & Eugene break down on the latest Panthers' Huddle video, and Ron mentions the safety's role in helping create doubt about the coverage. Around 17:40 into the video... http://www.panthers.com/media-vault/videos/Panthers-Huddle-Bye-week/ea7b12c0-86a2-4c78-9ee9-f2404b95367e

Love this Panthers tweet!! What a head's up play by Ed Dickson!!

So how about some bold predictions to liven things up while we wait for the game? 1) CAP will finally get some significant carries. I'll say he gets 60+ yards on 10 carries. 2) Funchess will snare a TD pass. 3) J Stew gets his first TD of the season. 4) Jared Allen gets two sacks. 5) Peanut gets an interception.

Good read. Thanks.

Has there been a prediction thread? If so, I missed it. In any case, I predict we'll win. Think the team is really wanting to go into the bye 4 - 0 and will make it happen. I hope we can get a lead early and hold it, and win by at least 10. I'll predict Panthers 24 - 13. A lot depends on how the Dline plays and how well we can pressure Jameis.

This! But obviously, he's got a strong positive grade for his receptions, it's his run blocking that negates it. Anyway, I'll take lots more games like this from Greg, no matter how PFF rates him!

we won't know until tomorrow

Don't die of shock, but a VERY solid article on this trade by David Newton: http://espn.go.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/16076/reasons-the-timing-was-right-for-panthers-to-trade-for-defensive-end-jared-allen

Of course, it's just a formality. But it's the rules, I believe. You know, buyer beware, due diligence etc. Apparently he gave the Bears a short list of teams he was interested in being traded to... So, yes, I think he's happy. I bet having Tillman here doesn't hurt any.
-
He's got to pass a physical, so he's not yet officially on the team. Whatever roster move needs to be made will be announced tomorrow

Joe Person @josephperson 5m5 minutes ago Rivera says Allen transition will be quicker than other positions would be. ie, Kevin Norwood. Jonathan Jones @jjones9 6m6 minutes ago Rivera said the team watched a lot of tape on Allen today to make sure he'd be a fit for them

Charles Tillman @peanuttillman 6m6 minutes ago @JaredAllen69 Welcome to Charlotte! Looking forward to seeing that celebration when you get a sack.

Wow this was pulled off quickly: Max Henson @PanthersMax 6m6 minutes ago Rivera on Panther Talk: "Allen is a pass rushing specialist - he rushes with violence. We didn't want to wait when we found an opportunity." Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview 6m6 minutes ago On #Panthers radio, R.Rivera says CAR started talking abt Allen this AM: “We didn’t want to wait when we found out there’s an opportunity.” Joe Person @josephperson 7m7 minutes ago Ron Rivera says Jared Allen trade talks came up this morning. 0 retweets 3 favorites
