Rival Review - New Orleans Saints
saints4lifeagain replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Drew definitely pressed too much last year. And he's always been a guy that will throw one out there instead of take a sack, so when the pressure increases, so do the boneheaded throws. Armstead is the starter at LT and has performed well after the first half of his first game. I didn't really understand the need to throw him in the fire against one of the premier rushers in football, but it wasn't my call lol. Hardy racked up 3 sacks in the first half and none in the second. Armstead got hurt late in the year last year and his prescense was missed.- 38 replies

Rival Review - New Orleans Saints
saints4lifeagain replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fair enough. I just think it's the differences in the way two franchises think. The Saints, under Payton and Brees, have always valued the interior of the line higher than tackles. The LT position has been switched 3 or 4 times since Brees has been here. We've had two LGs (about to be 3) and 1 RG in that time. The center position has changed a lot, but it's usually a high end player there as well, until the last 2 years. One of the biggest reasons Brees struggled at times last year was because of interior protection. Inside pressure has always bothered Drew, probably because of his size. The Saints know he's at his best when he's able to drop back and then climb the pocket. They made that a priority this offseason. No one will know whether they got better or worse until they get on the field.- 38 replies

You get what I was saying lol. I know they didn't trade him for a dominant Oline. Just traded him to help bolster the Oline. Eagles call and offer Peters and their 1st for Olsen, you don't take it?- 38 replies

Completely different circumstances. The Pats had a young guy at Guard that they liked and sold Mankins when they could still get something for him. That's the way they operate. Richard Seymore? Gronk is a completely different animal anyway. You named someone better than Jimmy, who gets paid less. I don't agree with you on a game changer TE being more valuable than OL though. The Saints best years came behind a dominant oline. Look at the Cowboys last year. Poo, look at the Panthers. You wouldn't trade Olsen for an Oline that actually protected Cam? Again, I don't like the trade. I love Jimmy. I think it's sad the way a lot of Saints fans are talking about him now. But I can see the thought process of the organization. Time will tell if they were right. I got it Mr. Simpson. Thanks.- 38 replies

I was not and am not a fan of the trade, but there's always different ways to look at it. Jimmy was definitely the biggest piece in the trade, but if Anthony and Unger perform well and the Saints make a turn around, who's to say who won the trade? You also have to think about the contract that came off of the books. Is it plausible to pay a TE that kind of money and be successful? I think Jimmy will dominate in Seattle. A lose/lose for both teams? Its one way or the other guy. Is Jimmy soft and can't block and overpaid? Or did the Saints lose a great player? Both teams can't lose, because you're contradicting yourself with your own argument. I know what you're getting at though. The Panthers won the Saints/Seahawks trade.- 38 replies

I watched them, and I know what you're saying. But different schemes and players around changes things. Again, Goodwin was basically a turnstile.- 38 replies

Well, Goodwin was abused by everyone. Whether he's been abused by Star or not, he's still one of the top centers in the league when healthy.- 38 replies

Decent article, but I would like to complain that it was a bit of lazy journalism that you all complain about ESPN for. My my first complaint is that Spiller wasn't our biggest addition. I'd give that to Max Unger and would probably put Browner ahead of him as well. Unger is an all pro center, which was the weakest position on the Saints line last year. Grubbs was the LG, not the center, and he and Goodwin struggled mightly last year. The Saints are much better on the oline this year than they were last year with the additions of Unger and Peat. The whole CB group outside of Lewis has changed. Corey White and Patrick Robinson are gone, thank god. They're replaced by Brandon Browner and Kyle Wilson/Delvin Breaux/PJ Wiliiams. The weakest position group on the Saints roster last year was CB. The Saints attacked it head on. Throwing in Byrd being healthy as well and the secondary looks much improved. Anthony was a need/value pick. He'll start from day 1, not down the line. The Saints lacked athletiscm in the LB corp. He gives them that. I've still yet to hear anything about the Saints wanting Funchess anywhere but here. One of the biggest talking points I think you left off was the Junior Galette situation. If he had surgery/gets suspended, the Saints pass rush takes a significant hit. Maybe the rookie steps up, but losing Galette would be devastating IMO. There hasn't been a whisper about Grayson being selected because everyone knows Brees is getting up in age. We've all wanted a replacement in place for a couple of years now, to learn from one of the best in the business. I'm on record as saying Drew cost us too many games last year, but I'm not ready to hop on the Drew Brees has fallen off a cliff train like most here. This Saints team will definitely be different than last years. I have no idea what to expect. I'm excited about the upgrades on the offensive line and in the secondary. I question the receiving corp and the pass rush. The "bottom dwellers" comments are laughable though. The Saints haven't won less than 7 games since Drew and Payton got to town.- 38 replies

KB had 4 catches for 42 yards and that TD against Lewis in 2 games. The second game (which that gif is from) he was playing on 1 leg. KB is a baller. If that's the highlight of 2 games against Lewis, I'll take it every day.

I get that. I think the Saints have the size to match up well. And I think what Carolina is doing in the receiving corp has something to do with what the Saints are doing in the secondary.

Lewis didn't seem to have any trouble with it last year... ...anyway, Benjamin looks great. If he can clean up the drops, that'll be a huge step in his progression.

Well, not specifically me. I'll probably refrain from joining in and watch from the safety of my couch. Benjamins size doesn't scare me. The Saints have one of the bigger CB duos in the league.

The how many people can kiss Igos ass this week chart?

Those moving goalposts doe. I don't care what either QB did in college, because it's irelvant to the NFL. Reggie Bush was one of the greatest college running backs to ever play. What's that got him in the NFL? I don't care what either won in college, because neither has won poo in the NFL. And since when are playoff stats the only things that matter? Luck, in his third year, just threw for 40 TDs. He again threw for a lower interception percentage than Newton. You guys consistently complain about Newtons oline, have you ever watched the Colts? They're one step above turnstiles. He's played with TY and an old injured Reggie Wayne. Never a decent running back. A horrid defense. TY and Luck are the only things that the Cokts have going for them. If you can't watch Luck play and see the quarterback that he is, I'm not sure what to say. It seems to me that most Panthers fans see any compliment to Luck as a slight to Cam. It just doesn't work that way. Luck is head and shoulders above Newton as a QB and the only people who would argue against that are Panthers fans. Personally, I feel like he's passed Brees as well. P.S. I'm not going to make this a Saints vs. Panthers thread. The last 2 years the Panthers are 1.5 games better than the old, declining Saints. Cam Newton has never had a season like grandpa Brees had last year. That's all I'll say on the matter.
