Imo, if your going to keep Sam its solely with the intention of keeping him on the roster as a backup. Let him carry the clipboard and come in for 3-4 games if needed due to injury. 4 games max is his limit. Now if he develops in the process, now you have a trade peice or possible starter. But as is, he might be the best backup we've had since Anderson. Or we'll let Darnold walk and settle for someone familiar like Brissett. With the hope that Young, Stroud or Levis can last to a realistic spot to trade up to. If not, I'm guessing we'll Brissett and go heavy offense in the draft. WR/TE/RB/G first 4 picks. I just don't see Reich banking his first draftpick on a player that probably wont play his first year (Richardson). Although there is alot of potential reward it's too much risk in the pick. Unless he has a Malik Willis type slide. I actually LOVE the Hooker/Hyatt connection. I'd take either on this roster. I think the problem with evaluating Darnold is some of his throws are ELITE but others are Wtf...so its puts you him in the "fixable" column. That Saints game dropped his stock rapidly and lost him alot of money. And whoever does "fix" Darnold is going to get major credit. After typing that, It wouldnt shock me if McCown brought him back.

To be honest: I vividly remember Cam looking horrible in preseason but when week 1 came he was always ready. And to be fair, Corral did play with the damn 4th-5th string also. From protection to receivers. And while he did look quite bad lol (and very small) his receivers did him zero favors/drops. This doesn't mean he should be penciled in as a week 1 starter but I do have a hard time believing thats the best he could produce. The guy was a stand out QB playing in the SEC...the game he had vs Bama should show you his upside and he actually finished that game with a better stat line than Bryce Young. All things considered, passing against an Ole Miss defense vs a Bama defense is different league. Levels do exist. All that said, if he could get proper training, the playbook down, and bulk up a bit to avoid injuries I wouldn't exactly count him out 100%. This is not Will Grier imo. He might not be a game changing QB but he does actually fit the mold of what Reich said he was looking for in a QB.

Athletic mock from today Top 6 picks
ColumbusCounty replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yea seriously doubt this happens. He'll be there when we pick at the original spot. And if the other 3 are gone I could see us trading down and acquiring more picks. The draft is such a crap shoot we could trade down and still wind up selecting him. Like I said previously, if Willis lasted to the 80's last year it's indeed possible. Side note: I do think on draft night Young will fall. Literally only because of his height. -
Jeff Howe on the Panthers "power dynamics"
ColumbusCounty replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I remember someone telling me Fitts had all the power during the draft. And while our last draft was a little different from the previous, I remember telling that person to go back and watch when we drafted Corral (Camp Confidential). Fitt wanted to wait while Rhule basically said no sir we're doing the opposite/we're making the trade right now. Then giggled afterwards. At least that's what I took from that clip iirc. Fitterer has to be an extremely patient guy. I could only imagine the kind of conversations he's had behind closed doors regarding Rhule. -
Similar yes, but Cam in college was a TOTALLY different monster. One could STRONGLY argue the best year for a QB in college actually. Some would say Burrow but when you realize Joe played with a damn near All-NCAA team and Cam played with "maybe" 3 drafted players on that squad, the answer becomes obvious. To me atleast. AR has a pretty high ceiling and I think he might actually be faster than Cam. Arm strength is push. Accuracy edge would go to Cam. As well as quite a few intangibles that can't be measured. He reached the highest level at every level. They throw the saying around but Cam was really a once in a lifetime talent. Just like you'd be hard pressed to find another Kuechly. AR gives me more Keapernick vibes than Cam vibes. I'd still draft him but I don't think he's worth a top 10 pick currently. His potential is however. So the question becomes are we willing to bet on his upside?

You might as well stay at 9 if that's your guy. Pretty sure he'll be there. Hell, he might be there in the 2nd ...ala Malik Willis who dropped to damn near 90. I think our eye is on Stroud and Levis tbh. And Levis may even go before Stroud when it's all said and done. Total crap shoot. Don't be blinded by the highlights.. Richardson needs a full season to develop.

Reich’s description of a QB: It’s basically Corral
ColumbusCounty replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
I also thought the same thing.."describing Corral" when he was talking to the reporter in the first interview last week. Realistically we dont know what we have in Corral. Next season will still be his rookie season in my eyes. Besides the mental reps, access to the team dietitian and strength and conditioning coaches, he's has extremely little experience on an NFL field. Playbook familiarity would have been a plus but even that's out the window. For all anyone knows, under Reich Corral might develop into Brees 2.0 with proper coaching. You just can't go into the season with him as your only viable option. But he's still an option -
Reich’s description of a QB: It’s basically Corral
ColumbusCounty replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
No it's far from the NFL and I also doubt he starts BUT I have to say, he actually looked very impressive vs Alabama. Although they lost that game he was throwing darts out there... Nah it's not the AFC by any means but the SEC is a pretty good test of potential. **In some cases** In that same game: Bryce Young (ALA): 20-of-26, 241 yards, 2 TD, INT Matt Corral (MISS): 21-of-29, 213 yards, TD; 10 carries, 3 yards, TD How will he rebound is the question. He did look pretty awful vs New England. He also looked extremely small out there. Adding weight/muscle should be one of his goals this offseason. Gotta hope -
I guess it depends. I think Brown could handle the middle but he might be ideal on the edge. I think our personnel would work somewhat.. IF I had to shuffle around and make it work, the most effective lineup would be: Brown - (Need a body) - Yetur(??) Burns- Luvu - Chinn - Haynes That's with the thought of bringing Chinn back closer to the LOS and Shaq being a cap casualty. We'd get pressure but would likely suffer in the run game the first year. Wish we would have signed Reddick to a multi year when had the chance.

A sneak peak at the Panthers offense under Frank Reich?
ColumbusCounty replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lol....yea our X receiver is going to eat. DJ should be smiling hard af right now. Unless we go WR @ 9 for some odd reason. Which would probably be his luck. -
This is starting to get nasty with coach wilks.
ColumbusCounty replied to ncguy2184's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed... right on the head. -

ColumbusCounty replied to ncguy2184's topic in Carolina Panthers
To be honest, it's all perception imo. It looks bad because of the optics. From the outside looking in, it looks like Wilks wasn't given a fair shake. He won more games in a partial season than Rhule did in two full seasons. And that's after losing his best player, a make shift group of coaches, and galvanizing a team that most thought were in tank mode. He basically made an eatable dish outta poo. We were literally two missed field goals away from being in the playoffs. It looks crazy because WE knew Tepper wanted an offensive coach. Mind you we still interviewed defensive candidates. It's not like we hired John Madden, we hired Frank Reich who just got fired earlier from Indy. It leaves the argument, why not keep Wilks and hire Reich as OC?. Plus you have reports of them not offering him a spot on the staff. I can understand why as it might cause a locker room divide but again, the optics. The media also isnt covering the meeting with the FO and the dozen players that met before the hire. It's the media's job to jump on any story so I'm not surprised. I do think the attorney statement is a major reason for the media storm. Wilk's statement was 100% stand up. The optics ...smh And I think it's all compounding as Arizona did that man dirty and only to hire Kingsbury who had an awful resume at that time. As for Tepper, I knew Wilks wouldn't be selected when we lost to the Steelers. But I do feel for the guy. -
Nah that was our last Wildcard appearance..he got us in the playoffs again that year('17). Might have been a different story had both Klay(TD right threw the hands) and Funchess (I lost the ball in the lights) caught their intended redzone passes. Heartbreaking game and the closest I've seen Cam to 2015 Cam since '15. I think your talking about the Turner year and Iirc, his completion percentage was better than ever... 63-67%. I think we were 6-2 and it was already early talks of MVP (again) until we met the Steelers. I'll never forget the hit. Mostly because I dont remember seeing that happen before. Unless my memory fails me: Cam dropped back and as his arm was going forward TJ Watt leads his helmet into Cam's shoulder and punched it damn near simultaneously. I thought it was illegal but even if it was Cam wasn't getting calls. Josh Allen has Dawkins, Cam had Byron Bell and a converted Dlineman. Enough said.

Joe Person on possible coordinator candidates
ColumbusCounty replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's big news Imo!!!!! I honestly think that move keeps Bozeman in Carolina, if true. The love for Campen amongst offensive lineman is real. In regards to Tabor, our ST hasn't been this good about 7-8 years. Since Ginn was back there. The coverage was impressive considering what we were used to around here. -
If only this guy was taller. His agility, small stature, and field vision remind me of the player we just traded. The skillset is there though along with the production...almost 30 total touchdowns in the last two seasons. I'd definitely pick him up in the later rounds. If he's still there in the 5th, no questions asked. Gut feeling our "sexy" draft will go QB, WR, RB, LB, WR. Double dip at WR depending on our HC....nothing is off the table. If you want a RB this is definitely the draft to get one. I also like Achane and Charbonnet.

Our Best QB Performance is Ahead of Us
ColumbusCounty replied to bythenbrs's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yea I'll have to wait in season and see. Our offensive and defensive adjustments(or lack thereof) left alot to be desired. Which says a lot off coming off a Rhule led team. To be fair, I do think if Sam played the entire year with PJ as his primary backup we aren't even having this discussion. Hell, if Wilks would have kept Snow we'd be in the playoffs. Keeping that in mind, if he was to named as HC and i I'm Tepper, Id have a few conditions if he wants that position. No micromanaging and hire him the best position coaches, DC and OC avialable. I'm not so sure he'd sign off on that after his Arizona stint. Whatever way it goes I honestly hope Holcomb and McAdoo have called their last plays as coordinators here. -
Whoever the scout was that saw enough of Luvu to bring him here deserves a raise. If he improves or replicates his play next season he'll be in for a big payday. ..... Now...next coaching staff (if not Wilks) will probably cut Shaq and after looking over the tape, hopefully tmove Chinn back to LB where he's most effective. Running with our current roster, that would leave Woods and probably Franklin(who probably had the 3rd biggest improvement after Brown and Luvu) as our safeties. 3 moves ..3 upgrades. Chinn and Luvu playing next to each other would be my goal. Which would leave the only glaring holes on Defense at DE opposite Burns and DT opposite Brown.

2 missed game winning kicks in one game

That actually makes too much sense. I never really thought about it... my version is much more intriguing lol. Valid point. -
Kick em while there down: NFL All pro first team

Speaking of kicking ... I was surprised to see that Ickey wasn't included in the All Rookie Team... but thats Pro Football Focus business. -

One could argue ..did it crash or is it coincidence that three of the astronauts that were on that shuttle have identical twins with different first names. And the others are still alive apparently..just older. Same names... teaching at universities. I wasn't even a year old but the story behind it is Wild. P.S.. I like Eddie ...but do we let Zane walk in favor of him? -
I'm thinking they'll draft a center regardless in the 2nd or 3rd. A guy for Boze to mentor and groom like he did with Mays. Iirc, Boze only missed a handful of games his entire career so if he stays I think we target an interchangeable OG/OC like Steve Avila out of Oregon. I would definitely be ok with taking a flyer on that guy if he's still on the board in the 3rd.

I would invest another draft pick in the line... undoubtedly Keep your strengths your strengths ... I see we signed Deonte Brown back ... hopefully he gets his weight and mind right and becomes a factor. I like how we attacked the offensive line position this offseason. Moton, BC, Ickey, Corbett(after preseason), Cade, Boze (Top priority to extend). Why not throw a couple more names in there for insurance and competition.
