With Donte and Jaycee being recurring question marks we could easily bring in Marcus Peters, Casey Hayward or even Byrce Callahan and still be somewhat competitive on the back end. Off the street any of those options serve as an immediate upgrade over Keith & CJ. Specifically CJ. It's a reason the staff isn't actively searching for replacements. But I do agree CB is far and away a more pressing need than edge. As long as Burns, Chinn, Shaq and Luvu are on the same field we can manufacture pressure in this scheme.

I have zero faith in CJ. I did last offseason but watching his effort in that Bucs game change my whole perspective. As for Taylor, I'm still cautiously optimistic that he'll develop into a solid option under this staff. Eric Rowe should come in handy. Jaycee has missed alot of time but when he's out there he's damn near elite at what he does. And I dont think he's injury prone, I think he's had bad luck. 1st injury non-contact that occurred while back peddling iirc and last season took Chinn's helmet to the shoulder/wrist area. On the bright side it's still a couple of quality corners on the market if we need to make a move. I don't think we're going to just yet but ay we got options.
-
I forgot Donte's injury was Achilles. And when he returns will his speed be retained??... Might be one of reasons we were supposedly interested in Julian Brent's. And while some of the dudes I stated have potential, they're far from proven commodities. Yea if I'm Fitts, I'm on the phone now. Whatever it takes to not repeat that Bucs game last season.

If Jaycee or Donte went down, I'm thinking we move Eric Rowe outside and slide somebody like Chinn or Robinson to nickel. If we lost one we could still be competitive but if we lose both we're screwed. Idunno, but I've convinced myself Rejzohn Wright will surpass Henderson and Taylor Jr on the depth chart. We know how bad both of them can be but we don't know improved they might be after a scheme change and legit coaching. NFL Taylor Jr, in particular. He took a serious fall from what I saw from year 1. Henderson has always looked out of his league to me. We don't know what we really have currently...lol hell Rasul Douglas left and made a Pro Bowl... I will say with the skill players in our division CB should be high up on the priority list after the draft. Atleast we have the $$ to grab one if needed.

Another one falls into the trap that is Sam Darnold
ColumbusCounty replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Take away that last game and iirc Sam was damn near top 5-10 in the league QBR wise iirc... He made some throws that made me smdh but he also threw some last season that made my jaw drop. Just that improvement showed me he can further develop (to a certain point). I will say, I would have been happy to have him as a backup under Reich. He's the perfect QB to come in for a 4-5 game stretch if need be (from wat I saw last season). I think he goes to San Fran and lights it up...atleast for a few games. Too many weapons to fail. Shanahan definitely has something in mind for Darnold. I wouldn't bet against it just yet. -
I agree, and in theory you want as many play makers on the field as possible. I'm figuring he'll be 4th-5th on the depth chart at WR w/ maybe 10 snaps a game. Or make him a change of pace back also and give him more opportunity. My gut says this won't happen. BUT the saving grace to the equation is our haul new offensive coaches. And with the attention and acclaim they've been getting since being assembled I'm expecting ALOT of creativity. Atleast alot compared to the Baylor staff.

I went back and looked at Sanders from Penn State up until now. He's more physical than I previously gave him credit for. He's also more of weapon in the redzone than I imagined. That man has some power with him. I was sleep. Also, he probably signed here under the assumption that we'd use him in our scheme similar to how Philly used him his rookie year. Basically a faster but slighty less shifty version of McCaffrey with less touches. I do think he's better than Foreman after getting up to speed and it's not even close imo. Redzone weapons: TMJ, Chark, Hurst, Mingo Short Yardage: Sanders... and if it doesnt work... throw Shenault or Mingo back there. Hell, line up Cade.

This guy....for a fifth rounder was a STEAL. 2 years at FSU: 2x All-ACC, 2nd team All American... FSU DPOY. Before transferring to FSU from South Carolina: 2nd Team Freshman All American, Freshman All-SEC Before that dude was the Player of the Year in the state of Georgia. I think his height/weight made him an afterthought but I think we got one with this pick if he stays healthy. Type of player you don't have to worry about motivation with..and he's already signed...I likes..
-
Hell yeah you sign that man. Unless he turns into YGM after the alignment switch. Imho, he'll be even better in this new scheme based on his playing style. That's a relentless man ... not only does he push the pocket but he grabbed a pretty athletic INT btw. Not to mention his batted passes and blocked FG's. His best ball is ahead of him.
-
I'd get Washington for extra protection for Young... TE with the blocking ability of an OT. Still got Brents at corner, who we're pretty high on. Sanders who we met with... Or BPA... Idunno how you pass on Meyer or Hyatt is they're available. I'm thinking we trade back. That said, Edge is still a need.
-
Just from my viewpoint: CJ's not quite comfortable with the nationally televised interviews just yet. But he has a confidence I like in a QB. I think the team would rally behind him. Behind the scenes he seems like the type of teammate you'd want in your locker room. Has that fire in him. With Young, the Bryce you get here is the Bryce you get at all times. Just a calm collected dude. More of a lead by example type...media training not a priority in the least. Seems coachable.. Lol, it's almost like a lesser charismatic Cam vs Wilson personality matchup. Idunno, just give me the one with the most heart and determination. The one that hates to lose. Either way I'll be happy. Wanted Stroud at first but Bryce is growing on me.

"There was one receiver last week..."
ColumbusCounty replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Charlie Jones Who btw is on my short list of gems that could develop into big time players. While we're at, Wr's also on that list Addison, Rice and Flowers. And also while were at it: This TE class is disturbingly talented. IMO the ceilings for Meyer, Kincaid, Musgrave and LaPorta are extremely high. Really like this draft at WR, TE, Rb, db and edge. ALOT of value in that top 150-200. I imagine we're trading back at some point. -

We should see what this coaching staff can do with his potential. If the pick is Bryce, he'd be an ideal backup. And Iirc, in Young's Heisman year, Corral was in the running as well. I wouldn't give up on him just yet. He actually does have talent. Only thing is, whoever we draft is a lock. As well as Dalton. That leaves Eason and Corral to battle it out. Uphill climb for Corral as I speculate Eason to Reich is a different version of PJ to Rhule.

I wanted a WR to pair with whichever QB we end up with but seeing as of today our WR room consists of: Adam Thielen DJ Chark Terrace Marshall Jr. Damiere Byrd Shi Smith Lavishka Shenault Jr. Preston Williams CJ Saunders I dont think WR is as high on the priority list as I originally thought. Contract duration and injury concerns should be enough to keep our eyes open on the position. We might have a suprise cut coming down the line. Imo, if we stay at 39 and a certain corner is on the board, I think they bite. And quickly. That corner is Julius Brents. He's going to develop into a star corner imo but I think the word is alread out. His name is starting to pop up everywhere. I also think we already met with him but I'm not 100% for certain off the top of my head. Without a trade down, we'd probably be looking at choosing between JB, Darnell Washington, Drew Sanders, Jack Campbell, Avila, Brian Branch, Kincaid, Gibbs, Simpson, Uzomah, Ojulari, White, Musgrave, LaPorta, Downs etc. That's just based off the few dozen mocks I've either seen or did. That's a helluva pool to choose BPA from. But If we do trade down I'm hoping we stay inside that top 50.
-
Also I wouldn't sleep on Henry To'o To'o. Or Sewell and Simpson on the inside. If we want an OLB or ILB one will be there @ 39 but I get the feeling offensive skill position will be the pick. Sanders will probably be first off the board with Campbell close behind or vice versa. If I'm looking for an OLB in 3-4: IF that's the move at 39, I'm looking for Will McDonald or Nolan Smith. Smith might slide because he's kinda small but he's so athletic he could probably line up anywhere and be productive. Will McDonald paired with Burns though...smdh. That could be nightmare. The run might suffer as he grows but imo he's a special talent. If he has any type of work ethic for his craft, that man will be a dominant force ... I'd bet the house on that.
-
In terms of being here: I like Jack more in a 4-3 but I can imagine Sanders will be a problem in a 3-4 out the gate. Would not suprise me if the Steelers drafted Drew.
-
Yea pretty sure if Sanders or any of the top 5 receivers are there, that's the move. I wouldn't be mad at CB either

Wtf song is that ..... I cant even concentrate on the the player....and I'm an actual music producer lol... Gotta run it back on mute.

Would it not be smart to keep M.C around?
ColumbusCounty replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yea I'm in favor of keeping him around just based on potential. My boy did lead an SEC team to double digit wins BUT... Reich has been tied to Eason for so long... unless we plan on hiding Corral on the practice squad, at which point he'll likely be took by New England. -
Good Question.. What type of edge do you want..
ColumbusCounty replied to Sub Zero's topic in Carolina Panthers
Felix has some serious power. McDonald and Burns would be a helluva combo. Lol, watch the Rams pick him. I can already see Drew Sanders in a panthers uniform although he wont be there when we pick again. He'll probably be a Cowboy. -
I forgot about Tank Dell, he's another one. I guess the coaching staff has to decide if he's that much more of threat than Shi, if they wanna pick one up later. That Tank Dell vs Sauce vid says alot though.
