So who’s your ‘Dawgs’ on this team?
ColumbusCounty replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Temper + Talent off the top of my head Offense: Thielen, Shenault, ISM, Chubba and Tremble. It's there but needs to be shown more: Hurst, Mingo and Blackshear. The entire oline except BC and Icky. Ickey might actually be on the fence at the moment(Think Derrick Brown in his second year). Maybe Sullivan. The defense has alot more names on it. Defense: Horn, Brown, Thurman, Luvu, Troy Hill, Franklin, Shaq, Bell, Woods.. Absolute no would go to CJ and Ian, with Donte dipping back between the two categories per game. Robinson was one in college...Still waiting on this. Evero's side is not the problem. Our defense can remain in games, hold each other accountable and bully most of the teams we play as is. The offense is where we get bullied at weekly. More specifically in the trenches. Our Oline is big... can get nasty at times but I wouldn't be too far off saying a couple of our starters play soft. Or maybe smaller then their size is a better way to put it. The absolute no would be Zavala (at the moment) And Moton is actually a "Dawg"....just not in the same way as the others. He's the exception. He's tough, exceptionally smart, does his assignment, comes to play, very talented but just not fiery. I've become accustomed to watching lineman and lb's yell in his face mask as he stares then awarkdly turns away to walk back to the huddle. Whether this is discipline or altercation scared remains to be determined. As long as he does his job at a high level I'm fine with it. But generally, I'd think you wouldn't want more than 2 question marks on your oline. The scheme just made it look alot worse than it actually is imo. -
Brown is the priority. Luvu I'd like back, especially if we tag and trade Burns. Idk about a reasonable deal though. Iirc, Luvu is the top LB on the market (per pff). I don't think he's a secret anymore. Interestingly, Devin White is avialable (Tampa connection). I'd love to see Luvu paired with Azeez Al-Shaair but that's probably a pipe dream. All of that said, one of those three should be in Panthers uniform next season.

New coach Dave Canales on Culture
ColumbusCounty replied to blueandblackattack's topic in Carolina Panthers
Another reason why I'd like to resign Luvu. Shaq also (if he's willing to play under the same type of contract as last year) Chubba as well. Anyone thinking otherwise obviously didn't watch his mic'd up segment. I wouldn't break the bank 4 em but I'd definitely try to keep him on the roster in some capacity. -
Nah, I think he appreciates grit, just not as much as analytics. One of the first compliments he gave Wilks was he's a leader of men. I'll never say coaching doesnt matter as it provides development, motivation, direction, discipline etc.. but so do the captains. These are some of the most athletic specimens on the planet who make well above my tax bracket. Grown men who shouldn't need hard coaching to perform as a unit at this point. . I don't even think John Madden could have willed us to a playoff spot this season. It's only so much you can do with this roster offensively. Especially when both our guards went down. The equation is simple. Keep the defense intact as much as possible. And invest HEAVILY in the offense. Bring in the new staff and for God's sake develop a scheme that plays to our players strength for once. Let Bryce play... if he still looks like his last two games bench him before its too late in the season. As far as coaching...We've had Rhule (the impulsive micromanaging type who is obsessed with Athletes), Wilks (The hard-nosed, accountability type), Reich(the experienced, too laid back guy) and Tabor (the straight shooter who will fight for his players). We need a combination personality in the building. Fix the offense ...Fix the panthers. Hell I'm sitting here watching Baker in the playoffs.

Armanti Edwards - College Football HOF
ColumbusCounty replied to OldhamA's topic in Carolina Panthers
And ironically he was too small to play QB...and iirc Armanti looked bigger than Bryce does currently. Still an awesome college player. -
Quiet and humble guy but he is definitely a #1 receiver. A lack of TDs just kept him from making the Pro Bowl. Its almost like saying Brown is a Jag because his sack numbers arent crazy. In 3 years Fitterer (with the Tepp's help) got rid of CMC, DJ + 2 first rounders(1 was swap) and 2 second rounders. And this was after turning down 2 1sts and a 2nd for Burns. Hell he couldn't get a deal done and still turned down every offer this season too. In hindsight...IF we would have traded Burns to LA and not traded up to #1 we would have probably wound up with Dalton throwing to Thielen and DJ Moore along with 4 firsts and two 2nds between the '23 and '24 draft. I will miss his aggressiveness in making moves though. He just made the wrong choice on about 8 out of 10 situations.
-
Yea... just off a quick glance... I want Josh Allen but if we cant sign Burns then Danielle Hunter and Byrce Huff would easily handle his production. OL: Robert Hunt RB: Derrick Henry and Donte Foreman. (Nah I just wanna see this combo) WR... Hollywood Brown and Curtis Samuel Speed on the outside, power up the middle. Resign Shaq at vet min...resign Luvu... and pick up a CB for depth. Then BPA all through the draft.

Every bit of draft capital and FA money
ColumbusCounty replied to Frank9999's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Oline can always be upgraded. That said, you bring in another Oline coach and grab two scheme specific Guards. Ickey-BC-Bozeman-Corbett-Moton Get away from the our current blocking scheme and go back to what worked. Worst case BC-Ickey-Boze-FA Guard-Moton.. But 60% of our line needs to run out of a power man scheme to shine, esp Bozeman. With Corbett and BC backing up the G spots. Both of them could technically start but I we need some new energy infused on that line. Grab a running back and put him infront of Sanders (pay cut). Grab either Corum, Brooks, Estime, Irving, Benson, or Johnson (whoever is still there in the 4th round)or just bring back Foreman. TE: 3rd Round pick - Jahiem Bell or Brevyn Spann Ford. Keep Sullivan and Tremble around. WR: Resign Shenault and ISM. Tee Higgins would be my choice but reality says Curtis Samuel. Grab a playmaker at #33 and pick up Ricky Pearshall in the 5th and we're atleast respectable again. Mingo was always a development pick but I'd expect his biggest jump to come year three. New HC..hopefully an innovative playcaller who can correct and adapt in real-time. And thats just the offense. We just need a damn identity and furthermore a whole new culture shift in the stadium. -
That's a WILD stat... honestly thought you were going to type "the most in Panthers history." Yea, he's the must sign. Scary part is he probably hasn't even had the luxury of NFL top level coaching since he's been here, which means he probably still hasn't peaked. That's crazy to think about. Glad to see him finally get some recognition. Well deserved.

Mingo done for the year with foot injury
ColumbusCounty replied to mrcompletely11's topic in Carolina Panthers
Like I said in the pff thread. Mingo was barely a top 10 WR in my eyes ..for him to be the 5th taken is WILD to me. Downs, Reed, Rice, Hyatt, Dell... We picked at 39...the receivers stayed on the board until the 20s iirc.. JSN, Johnson, Flowers, Addison ...then Mingo!?!? Incompetence. Maybe Mingo turns into Sanu/AJ Brown...rather than TMJ reincarnated. He has flashed so thats a positive but it doesn't bode well when 3/4th of a message board are annually better at identifying talent than our actual scouting department. -
DJ Johnson.... Projected round: NFL.com: Round 3-4 Sports Illustrated: 5th round NFL Draft Scout: 4th round NFL Draft Buzz: 7th round PFN: End of the 3rd Projected everywhere in the draft. Pretty sure we panicked and gave up pick 93 and 132 to move up to 80 for Johnson. I still hold out hope that Evero saw something I missed. Majority of our draft picks look like UDFAs. That said, our scouting department needs a revamp. I get potential BUT.... There is not even a parallel universe where Jonathan Mingo was thought of as a top 5 WR. Honestly, Mingo barely made my top 10. We even fugged up the #1 pick and I won't even mention Zavala. They still need time to develop but early returns aren't looking too good. Lol, it's actually insane when you think of every move we've made since Fitterer was obtained. Letting CMC go for everything but a first and leaking we turned down 2 1st rounders and a 2nd for Burns will always be a talking point. How I got here from a PFF post idunno. They all graded negative from what I saw. Burn the whole thing down. Keep Derrick Brown though.

A little optimism for the offseason..
ColumbusCounty replied to recceice's topic in Carolina Panthers
Xavier Worthy in the 2nd Ricky Pearsall in the 4th + Thielen, a more confident Mingo, ISM and sign Shenault on the cheap.. the last two are critical to what I'm picturing. And bring in somebody to help them develop. Side note: Imo ISM has more upside then any receiver on our roster currently. -
Panthers Vs Saints 1PM Gameday Thread
ColumbusCounty replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lol don't think I've ever seen Kamara thrown like that -
Assuming we fix our line in FA or move Icky to Guard with Christensen at LT. Ima keep saying it.... Xavier Worthy n the top of second(WR) In the 3rd: If Chubba is still on the roster, pair him with Jahwar Jordan(RB). If we need a true #1 Audrick Estime (RB) ...I'm not a fan of Sanders. Ricky Pearshall in the 4th (WR)... and he's probably going to climb up every draft the closer we get but iirc we only have 2 WRs on contract next year: Mingo and Theilen.. Linebacker, and Guard/Center in the later rounds. Worthy, Pearsall, Theilen w/Estime. If Bryce can't get off any better with those weapons, he'll never figure it out at this level. If we end up with the first pick in the 2nd, I expect our phones will be going crazy. Its usually about 3-5 players with first round talent that drop draft night. I just don't trust Fitterer in the war room.
-
I gotta feeling we're going to see alot more Smith-Marsette and Blackshear. If anybody on this staff knows thier explosiveness it's Tabor. I'd also guess we're going to run the ball more. And yeah this Sunday will be ugly. Not as bad as Wilks first game imo but it has the potential. We still lack offensive weapons + our oline has been battered to death. And nah this won't be a Wilks 2.0 situation (lack of talent/injuries) but I do think he can win more games than Frank did. Just don't give the Bears the #1 pick.

Nathaniel Hackett didn't last too long last year iirc.

I can't rag on Ekwonu too much because I think the potential is still there. He would probably be a Pro Bowl G though. So basically we took (in order): Bryce over CJ ...Fitt Ekwonu over Cross...Fitt Jaycee over Surtain..Fitt .... what we got right: Brown over Kinlaw (came close to bust status around here his first two seasons) ...Hurney under Tepp Burns over Sweat...Hurney under Tepp DJ over Ridley (100% the right pick)...Hurney CMC over Henry (about the same)..Hurney One GM hit on every pick and not just the first but the second as well (in large part and excluding Little). One man is still looking to claim he grand slammed his first. The closest being Horn, who is extremely talented yet never available. Common factor: Fitts has to go. Combine all his FA acquisitions + the draft and his hit rate is so low it should be alarming. Reich isn't the only one with a chair "on fire".
-
He's not my top choice @ the moment (or back in April) but I gotta say Bryce is tougher than I thought. Amazingly x10 times more durable than Jaycee. Thought the man was broke in half about four times today. The best thing this org could have did after drafted him was sit him ... We'd probably be at least 5 wins in with Dalton. Which is crazy since that would have probably been enough for first place in the division. If I can see this...along with CJ being the actually pick... it just blows my mind that this 70+ years of NFL experience staff can't. I'm guessing it's Tepper forcing hands BUT Tepper didn't pick DJ Johnson in the 3rd. Bad decisions everywhere lol..I NEVER would have thought '23 would be worse than the Clausen year. Summary: This post is all over the place. Just like the holes in our roster.

2 WRs to Target in the Next Two Drafts
ColumbusCounty replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Depends on the blocking scheme we use. If it's zone again ... then we'll have more questions than answers. In a Gap scheme we could actually play to our current lineman strengths particularly in the run game. And in Pass pro we'd atleast finally have a somewhat answer to stunts. Depends on our coach. -
2 WRs to Target in the Next Two Drafts
ColumbusCounty replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
2nd Round: Xavier Worthy or Egbula (if he slips). 3rd Round: Ricky Pearsall. His route running and hands are insane imo. Not a 4.3 guy but his technique will create its own seperation. -
Donte played his ass off .... Brown also. The amount of hustle he plays with every game is commendable. Hell not resigning Brown might hurt us more than losing Burns, if that was the case.

wait ickey has been good this season?
