Well in theory... building a good enough D got The Golden Calf of Bristol to the playoffs. And sadly was the reason our oline dissolved in SB50. I think its all Rhule. Honestly dont think we had a choice with how bad our defense was in Ron's last year. Now if you add in a new GM that probably still dreams about the Legion of Boom and our offseason moves before & after he got here begin to make even more sense. I'd like to think it's mainly Rhule though. One thing is certain: The type of player they preference. Physical, fast, position switchable. We are silently building a hard hitting hybrid defense. But I do expect this to be a split draft. 3 on offense 3 on defense. Probably OT, OG/C, and a late WR since the class is so deep. You could probably throw in Safety (Andre Cisco, Richie Grant), CB (Jevon Holland [Safety/CB], Samuel Jr, Farley) and a DT late since we're thin there. Along with 8 Udfas. Side note since we're on Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah ...I don't want to see this guy in our division.

Good question... and I'm leaning towards they'd pick him him. If Sewell or Pitts are still there they would be BPA but I get the impression Tepper REALLY needs to find his QB of the future by any means.

I watched his highlights from last season and guy was running for his life about 80% of the time. Conclusion: Either his line was trash or he does his best work improvising (there was one play iirc he rolled out to the left and threw his receiver open with his right against the 49ers. very impressive. Might be a combination of the two. He does take more chances then Teddy and will probably make quite a few INT's but im slowly coming around to him. What other choice do we have right now. Also, I just have this funny feeling that Fields will still be on the board when we pick at 8.

DJ Moore: Only current WR with consecutive 1100+ yard seasons?
ColumbusCounty replied to Stumpy's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he's borderline top 10 at his position, what other players can we say that about? McCaffrey, Moton.... (insert noone).. I dont think anyone called him a generational All-Pro.. BUT you have to give the man his credit. Especially when you factor in the amount of receptions. Now imagine his numbers if he had Brees and we actively force fed him the ball ...i.e.. Michael Thomas who had 149 receptions for 1725 yds in his best year. For comparison. Moore had 66 receptions for 1139 yards last year alone. -
Like I said in another thread If we were able to land Sewell at 8 and Jenkins in the 2nd..our line would potentially be a strength again. If Jenkins is gone, maybe even Trey Smith in the 3rd if his medicals drop his stock. LT:Sewell LG: Jenkins or Smith Paradis (improved last season but now possibly has competition in Erving: All-ACC @ C in college, and Elfien: Rimington Award Winner @ C in college). I honestly think they were both brought in with the intentions of spot duty at guard in 2021 with one replacing Paradis in 2022. RG: Miller/Daley/Elfien/Erving LT: Moton Draft is deep at offensive line. We could possibly walk away with 2 day one starters within the first three rounds. If it was ever a year to go all out on O-line, this is the time. Darnold is being put in an optimal position to succeed. Joe Brady (this project will also say alot about him)... a defense I expect to be suprising good..two receivers who had over 1000 yards last year.. David Moore in the slot.. and an elite rb. Not to mention Dan Arnold as underrated as he may be. Darnold just missing the protection and coaching. If he fails, at the very least we'd have the majority of the peices in play & cap space to go after whoever we think can get us back to double digit wins.

"IF" we are to continue our streak with going defense and taking into consideration what I think our scheme might be. If we traded down... I'd think we were targeting: Trevon Moehrig Jaelan Phillips Caleb Farley All those fit what we do and the traits we seem to look for. If we had to go CB, I'd rather have Horn/Farley over Surtain.

Panthers give Teddy permission to seek a trade
ColumbusCounty replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Something is telling me he will either be: First in line: New England/Saints Second: Rams, Titans, Seahawks, Vikings Sleeper: Redskins I have to admit him in New England would be interesting. Seems like a Belichick move. Him getting trade permission before the Donald signing says a lot about how he was viewed by the organization. Also makes me think we may STILL pick a QB at #8, but I could very well be reaching. I just don't know how you pass up Sewell if he is there. Hell if we could come out of this draft with Sewell AND Tevin Jenkins our Oline would suddenly become nasty. -
Since Darnold is now our QB.. You almost have to go Sewell or Slater. With protection imo he'll do very well here. And I've never been a fan of the guy. Without protection, it'll be a 6 win season. OT will be addressed between Round 1 or Round 2. Cam Erving is not going to be our blindside starter. Both him and Eifen will be plugged in a guard with one eventually taking Paradis's spot at center once he's gone. Oddly enough with our current roster we're about 3 starters away from suprising alot of people. LT, Cb, and FS. With the amount of $$ we have next offseason, that Rhule third year habit should come true. Or maybe I'm too optimistic.

We've virtually met with at least 2 CBs and 1 WR
ColumbusCounty replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
He hot benched for Hartsfield??? ... I must have missed that briefing smh.. well, he did get a prove it deal with the Lions today. We really need CB help lol. And I refuse to believe what's left out there couldnt compete with Pride, but I've been wrong before. -

Yea your right, they closest we got was Sam Mills as the Head coach at the '19 East-West Shrine game. -

Coaching at the Senior bowl was a huge advantage (esp. In a covid year). Which is one of the reasons I'm a fan of acquiring more picks this year. Side note: Didn't Rivera coach the Senior Bowl one year?? I may be off but if not, I might have to go reevaluate that particular draft. We might be looking for an Corn Elder replacement in the later rounds or as UDFAs. I was hoping we would resign him atleast for a year. His improvement was impressive and at worst we'd have quality depth guarding the slot. -
Panthers Free Agent Signings Thread
ColumbusCounty replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
So it's obvious we're looking at bringing in a corner. Keep a look out for Parry Nickerson in the slot later down the line. -
Backwards move unless we're planning on bringing him back cheaper. Actually, this move makes ZERO sense. We just created another hole in a place already shorted at talent. Kerr was one of the few bright spots last year. Only thing I can come up with is 1. We're trying to get younger on both lines. 2. Maybe Snow has them convinced he can make any serviceable DT work in his system. Kerr, Obada, and Roy did all overachieve (atleast my expectations anyway). 3. Kerr wanted more $$, we declined and he asked for his release. Head scratcher regardless. Looking at the two Oline players we picked up today maybe Kerr's pff grade was too high for the Fitterer.

In college wasnt he an olb and mlb? Missing a year makes it harder but if he stayed in shape this offseason when he returns I think he makes the 53. Our Lb lineup has to be near the bottom of the league...esp with talks of Shaq leaving. If he is to be a LB, I'd question his coverage skills though. Surely, he couldnt be worse than Whitehead. Or will he become a situational pass rusher? Rhule and Snow seems to like multi positional players. Obada was a cut DE, brought back and started sharing snaps at DT (and at times looked impressive).

The question of Curtis. Tim Weaver wants to keep him.
ColumbusCounty replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
CMC and Shaq, I agree. "He's a 3 on any even below avg NFL team" is where you lost me. Gotta give him more credit than that. When he didnt suit up, our whole passing game went directly to garbage. 32 teams in the NFL. Although it's not the best resource (PFF), his ranking stands at #27. Mind you, Bridgewater was his QB. He still hasn't reached his ceiling imo. I just don't think we can afford him. I also think we're grabbing one in the draft. Esp since Moore and Anderson's contracts will be up after next season. -
The Lone Ranger: What to do with Matt Paradis?
ColumbusCounty replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
He improved from last season. That said, he should be serviceable plus he'll be in a contract year. -
Scott Fitterer talks about the quarterback position

We may finally solidify the O-line. Hard to believe, so I'll wait until I see it. -
Scott Fitterer talks about the quarterback position
ColumbusCounty replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Too be fair, last quarter of the year Jackson showed up. With a offseason to heal and a contract year coming up iirc, he'll probably surprise quite a few doubters. (Me being one until I went back and rewatched a few games) -

Kk On Butler: Better first step than I had as a rookie ...... or something like that.... bottom line, it's about to get nasty on the inside!!! -
The Carolina Panthers player of the day is....
ColumbusCounty replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not much of a comp @ cb in training camp..... Bene, Boykin,3 draft picks .... I'm guessing the last spot goes to winner of Mcclain vs Young. As for Worley, we are only 2 days in(and no contact) but I wonder what the chances of him starting over our second rounder are?...Bradberry will be machine but more than likely not initially ...in the meantime Worley just may be the short term answer at cb #2. Way too early perspective but maybe not too far off base. -
Four Carolina Panthers Round Two Prospects
ColumbusCounty replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
I could see those picks Igo posted... BUT ... I'd counter ... 1.Cravens 2. Boyd 3. Zach Sanchez 4. Andrew Billings.. -
First Round: Ryan Kelly, Derrick Henry... or receiver( I know... I know)..draft is so deep that receiver may be BPA. I can see a run after the 20th pick. Coleman, Dotson, Fuller, Tredwell, hell Gman had Funchess at a first round talent ...I could also see where he might give a first round grade to Boyd, Thomas and/or Shepard. If either Dodd or Lawson fall...all bets are off Second: ... Trade up for Cravens..or Karl Joseph Fourth: Lineman Roster spots are at a premium.

NFL Rookies React to Madden 16 ratings
ColumbusCounty replied to Daeavorn's topic in Carolina Panthers
Suprisingly Id say Devin's reaction has him above 75 .... 78-80 tops. You can't be "that" happy under 75 unless you had very low expectations. Pretty sure Funchess would have been a first rounder with better qb play. The hype the Panthers are putting on him is real. Back when I did play Madden ... I switched to Ncaa fwiw. -
If his college game translates then he is a MUST HAVE. Would like to keep him around as he is a beast of a blocker as well as a high IQ guy. If it works keep him and or atleast Pratice sqaud stash him.Thought I heard he was running back before going to stanford, just didnt get a lot of opportunity when Harbaugh brought him in. An extra blocker couldn't hurt especially at the goaline. Norwell, Turner, Kalil, Williams and Oher with Ward infront of Tolbert/Stew.. crazy ...add in the Cam threat ontop of the Funchess and KB duo on one side and Olsen @ the opposite ...I like it .. I like it a lot.
